I love it too!!! The lyrics are beautiful, its just about frogs croaking together in a backyard pond right? And yet... so beautiful! Is that where the shows name comes from?
Adding to the purgatory theory! The mansions were probably built and then expanded within the owner’s lifetime, but when Wirt was describing the architecture he mentioned the era/style they were built in- but- the era that somebody lives in is always the modern era, and are given a different name years later
She also could’ve not recognized the names cuz she’s not into art like Greg is

John Cleese's vocal performance as Quincy is just incredible. So full of personality and unique tics. And hilarious.

Everything will be explained and/or will make sense in retrospect if you rewatch the show. I am impressed you picked up on clues that other reactors I’ve seen haven’t picked up on.
There also is a canon answer to the questions you got as well. One of them has been explained by the creator himself, but it’ll be interesting to see what you come up with.

18:30 You're not slow they were increadibly clever. First off there is the fact that Disney has trained us all to automatically think that talking animal sidekicks are good. Secondly up until ow every time its looked like they would do something wholesome that is actually something sinister (the harvest festival at pottsfield is an excellent example) they've instead double subverted it and it was in fact wholesome, in a way, after all. They set you up to think the show was a certain way to make Beatrice's betrayal be more shocking. Will they keep on tripple subverting expectations? That I will not tell you. Its for you to find out.

I love that Beatrice's behavior throughout every episode up to 6 was conditioning the boys to be mentally subservient, and I think she freaked out when Wirt said they had to spend quality time together because she knew if she knew more about him as a person she'd feel too guilty about giving them to Adelaide
There's a good reason two cents didn't sound like much to Wirt and Greg. Look at Wirts ears and clothing, especially his hat. He's clearly half gnome. Two cents isn't much to them because they're from another world, where gnomes & humans live together. They got lost in fog on all hallows eve, when the veil between all worlds is thin, and now they have to get back before the day ends there. Fortunately, time passes differently here.

I still think it's weird that they eventually revealed that not only did she used to be human but also Wirt's half sister on his dad's side and also Greg's second cousin somehow? Gods, that family tree is weirdly complicated, specially when you find out how the Woodsman is related to them.

Wirt hates his step father, so he hates Greg too, but to a lesser degree and is more tolerant to him for being 5 years old
I think "hate" is a strong word, more so he dislikes his stepdad and Greg because they represent turbulent changes in his life during formative years

This show is so weird & interesting. I wouldn't beat yourself up about not being able to piece things together considering how random this show is.

Fred (the horse) never gets explained but I personally don’t think he was ever human. The Unknown is a rather strange place and I always just thought Fred was apart of that.
a popular theory is that he is the horse of the highway man. not much to it, but he like to steal stuff and was in the stable of the tavern where they met the highway man
I think that's actually in one of the comic books, but I'm not sure if those are considered canon.

not only is it to add the sinking/water stuff that happens about once an episode, it’s because greg feels guilty about stealing- he stole the rock facts rock, and he lied to endicott about being his nephew.
