you should be having your son work on this, so he gets experience and hands on diy as you walk him through, great father, son project. I have been into r/c along time, now I am getting my son into it he is only 8. We both have traxxas slash's mines is the 4x4 his is the 2x4. traxxas makes great product, have fun.
i sold my revo 3.3 on ebay a few moths ago , jumping off the house can really add up with those A arms lol , get the 3.3 cause the 2.5 is like night and day with those things .. also the blue colored servos are waterproof and last alot longer then the stock ones .. and make sure when you first start the new motor that you follow the breakin procedure to the ''T'' ! good luck and have fun jumpin
very cool I had one of these trucks a few years ago stopped with the rc hobby when I started with handmade knives (1 hobby at a time) nice video good luck
@ckblood05 I did the same thing and it made a huge difference. I used a hump pack that fit in the original holder and also replaced the original switch harness with the airplane style that has a charging lead built in so you can charge the pack with the switch in the off position. Keeps you from having to remove the pack to charge it.
I recommend using a hammer to remove the flywheel. A. good tap on both sides of the engine and it should pop off. The prying method usually scars the engine block and/or flywheel. I learned this the hard way.
sweet looking t maxx you got! you should go with a 5 cell hump pack battery! you can then recharge it instead of replacing aa batteries plus you will get more power to your servo's making better braking power and faster steering!
I've been into this stuff for more than 25 years and have owned several gas planes and trucks, including a T-Maxx 2.5. If you guys need any help or advice, let me know. I will say that the key to keeping a 2.5 running good is to keep it cool. It's too small of an engine for that truck, so it does much better if you go down two teeth on the clutch bell (you'll have to adjust the shift point) Also, keep it a little rich and maybe even cut a vent hole in the windshield to allow more airflow.
I just inherited two "broken" Traxxis, mayb both Tmaxx's, not sure. My cousin who is no longer with us owned them and I'd like to get at least one runnin in his memory. I saw him run em long ago, but I've never owned or worked on one. Not sure where to start. Can u get schematics online? Anybody's help will be greatly appreciated.
i own a S-Maxx and it is a nice truck and i did some custom paint job on my front rims and it came out nice and i recently upload a video of my S-Maxx, also my video has an extra features

I just bought one from my dads friends for 150$, it is in two pieces, and hasn’t run in 15 years! 🤠
the role cage has 4 bolts just threaded through the bulk heads its not hard to take off
If the engine was shot on that newer t-maxx from ebay i assume he probably didn't brake it in correctly.
It was just wore out
How can a blown engine be directly related to not breaking it in correctly
RabbitFootedKitty because the piston can wear very prematurely and the sleeve can warp or crack if it is not broken in properly
Hello I just wanted to know how the 90 dollar trade in works.
Call trxxas and they will let you know
Thanks
what spur should I use to race I have a 3.5 motor on my t maxx
