What a great idea to breath new life back into Scarborough and good to see/hear new initiatives being discussed to further improve Scarborough, just what the doctor ordered. What I also thought was good how much was spread out with an eclectic mix of fun activities for people to see and join in with. Even better that is is going to be spread out thought the year, so not just a one day of weekend event. Well done Scarborough, cheers Alan
It’s such a welcome relief Alan. Genuinely do get excited by any positivity we can bring to our failing high streets. This was awesome. Will it be enough? Sadly, probably not, but I LOVE and I mean that a million % that people are trying and not just giving up. We had an awesome time at this event, the acts were all engaging and I felt like a child again watching them. A thing of wonder. That being said some numbskull timed the event to increase parking charges 20% in the town centre. You can’t make it up. Id like to meet that idiot in any alley anytime soon..
@@GENerationXplorers - Oh God don't get me started on parking. I paid £9 to park at Craster yesterday, something I may have mentioned in the video a couple of times :o(
@@AlanMETALMAN look forward to that one. £9 is insanely expensive. They are charging everywhere now are they? I mean we can walk into the town centre fortunately. But putting up parking charges by 20% when most other councils have cottoned on that you have to incentivise driving to a town centre during this horrible time of retail decline is a no brainer. Id accept charging more to visit the sea front as people have been wanting to do that for almost 300 years. But to charge people to see empty, boarded up shops? I want to meet that guy..

Ah thank you so much Christine. Scarborough town centre has been very much overlooked. I’m really proud they put so much thought into attracting people away from the lovely seaside and back into the dying town centre. This is a great first step. I have some hope..
236 years wow but what a fun event and such a positive for Scarborough. What has taken them so long to bring it back and well done for the team that did! The mural is amazing, I do think great street art is a positive for towns. Love the giggles from the crowd for the balloon man. Art installations in windows are also so simple but so positive. What a wonderful event.
thank you Nettie. I do think working with landlords and building owners is something Scarborough could be doing better. art installations in empty shop windows is a vast improvement to row after row of boarded up shops. we seem to be light years away from other towns and cities in that regard.

What a fabulous Fair. I so enjoyed everything. Can't name them all but some that stuck, the choir, Gollum, definitely the Balloon Man and many many more. I also loved the wall mural. Amazing. Hope this has a repeat next year. Fabulous gathering of fun stuff. Of the two ladies and their "shaking bootie" hahaha! The bird people. Oh this was awesome. It'll attract viewers al year round as it is timeless fun 🩷. Happy weekend you two. 🎶😜🙋♀🥝

Some fun and creative puppets, interesting, some of them freaked me out hehe BUT it's still impressive seeing the costumes and the personas too! Oh, this was so much fun! How fantastic that the fair has been brought back after so long. Loved the mobile hot air balloons and luggage! The man with his head stuck inside the big balloon was a bit scary! Don't try this at home! Those pigeons were cute. Very well presented, Nick and Jill. A pleasure to watch ❤❤
Try this at your Grandmas house 😂😂 the sheer scale of professionalism on display was a little overwhelming. We “took a look” not intending to film and the event blew us away. Everyone stayed in character during their performances. Just amazing. A real joy. Thank you for watching ♥️

Guys that fair looked sooo fun! Would love to visit, the costumes were amazing! Was a great event Anna. The 20 million high street fund has been given to failing Councils at their own discretion to see fit how to regenerate the dying retail sector. Bringing back the Scarborough Fair? I have to admit it’s possibly genius. I hope it works. It might bring back footfall and it might get some of those shops reopened. Crazier things have happened..

Hi Nick and Jill how fantastic that they have brought the fair back. Hope the market square gets its support it looked fabulous. We know of the song but we were not aware the fair had stopped. It looked a fantastic event. . Good to see the kids still love Punch and Judy 😆. The fileus fogg characters were brilliant as were granny turismo our nan could do with one of those trolleys. The man with the balloon was unbelievable Best not to try that at home , Dave was chuckling away. What a wonderful atmosphere we love things like this. Good to put the art in the windows great idea 💡 you would have to be careful with those pigeons on your fence though Jill. We did wonder if you would sing the song. A great video we really loved it. It’s nice to see people fighting back against the horrible trend of retail decline. At some point we will cover Rhyll, which (cat is out the bag) as come second worst after Blackpool as worst seaside town this year. Our hometown of Blackpool will be the kick start of our series 2 BOARDED UP. God help us all, but Rhyll, id like to put a positive spin on that place.

How great that everyone is so positive about the return of the Scarborough Fair (love that song) so many reminders of my past here … teach the world to sing (every music lesson in first year secondary school) punch & Judy (trips to the beach at Skegness) & Aunt Betsy (Yorkshire puddings ) oh hang on, was that Aunt Bessy’s 🤔😂 Oh & the ottoman 😂😂 so funny .. my dad has one stuffed full of tablecloths that are never allowed to see the light of day because they are “for best” whenever that might be 😂 Haha in all seriousness, this looked a great day, fabulous costumes, lots of fun & brilliant that an age old tradition has been revived … excellent 😍😃xx

My history is that ropey I had never heard of the Ottoman Empire before last week, why on earth would they want to trade in Scarborough if it wasn’t for bringing in Ottomans to trade for our local herbs? punch & Judy, its nice that even in the face of adversity we can bring back a hint of tradition. Great initiative by Scarborough, I had no idea the song was so old! Considering there has been no Scarborough Fair for 236 years! I also now have the song stuck in my head, I can still confidently sing a couple of verses thanks to high school music teachers who had it on high rotation for us choir students to sing in harmony😒

thanks so much Matt 🙏 it would make a huge difference to that stretch of town. the Council has been mulling over ideas for that block for almost 25 years without doing anything. hopefully this will give them the kick they need! those pigeons were pretty scary, they approach very quickly. I’m glad the ones on my fire escape aren’t that big they would bring the building down! 👍

Looks like a great event, I haven't seen much pre-event advertising for it though, perhaps they targeted it to North Yorkshire areas only. Definitely something that should become and annual event. Great coverage too!
thanks Andy, it was a really great event, badly advertised though. I got the impression that most people going about there day to day business in the town saw it more of an inconvenience than something wonderful to enjoy. we definitely need more though 👍

i feel like one of the first vids of yours i watched was in scarborough, so this oddly feels like an anniversary of sort even though this episode is for a totally different reason. i sang then, and since the fair is back 🎶parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme🎶(i sang first during this! 😝) i hope the petition gets its signatures. ok, real talk, esther puppet creeped me out a bit. 👀 looks like people were really having fun with costumes/masks/props. i liked balloon guys striped outfit, i think you two should think about that kit. his whole bit was really funny. found myself singing along to daydream believer and apparently writing the longest comment ever. 🫠 turns out i didn't know what to expect for this event. 😂so fun! i hope you return next year. 🛴❤
