His comeback story is amazing and Ke is very talented and resilient but please don't forget that he got a massive support system: his wife, his family, his friends (Goonies brother for example)... So please be kind to people around you and they will support you wholeheartedly especially in difficult times.

I think what the Academy did in re-thinking to consider true "Representation," to look outside the box to upon finally being inclusive to award all actors amidst the "Pool of "Diversity" in the film industry, is a huge shift. - Seeing Ke Huy's exuberance is a MUCH NEEDED breath of fresh air for the air waves as well as humbling mind set that this country needs to see, feel and embrace.

If people think there are not many entertainment options for Asians and Indians today, back in the 80s, 90s, even 2000s....it was a near dead end.

(Just want to point out that Ke Huy Quan is Vietnamese, not Chinese, although ethnically he is of Han Chinese background!)
Also I would be curious to know what you mean about “placating the Chinese global audience.” I personally felt that the movie was very much centered around American themes - the experience of immigration, e.g. struggling with being at the interstice between your parents in “the old country” and your children who are growing up somewhere new, trying to make a living and find your happiness in this new place you chose to come to, thinking of all you left behind, and eventually coming to realize that you don’t have to be perfect and able to everything to be happy: all you need is your family, the people you love! That feels very American to me. Same too with the satirical/adversarial portrayal of government bureaucrats in their relationship with the working class, the general confrontation of chaotic nihilism, and one of the main characters being LGBT - I don’t think would fly in the PRC.
Would be interested to hear your thoughts!
