I have an x1 and agree with you that the start stop is a pain in the a**. I had a 2020 x1 before changing to a 2023 and I liked it much better. It had buttons and centre selector. Thanks for your show..
I have a 2023 BMW X1 and really like it except there is a constant buzz coming from the drivers side grab handle and a couple of rattles on the passenger side. As for the start/stop I created a short cut so all I have to do is swipe down on the screen and select it, you can do it before or after you start it as long as the car is woke up.
Good review as usual. I picked up an 2024 X1 2 months ago and while I was skeptical about the lack of buttons, you do get used to it. There's "always on" screen buttons for the heated seats/wheel and climate, music is easy to get to. The shifter too is ok but 100% agree with your my modes comment - I like to go into sport mode (a lot!) and it's a real pain. I also prefer the look of the X1...the X2/X4/X6 have never really resonated with me...looks "chopped off" at the back. Having had the X1 for a couple of months, it's a lot of fun to drive. What is a total disaster is the iDrive 9 software. I've had 2 software updates now and still have a myriad of problems (well documented on forums). The biggest one though is that Android Auto has stopped working entirely with the latest update (disconnects after a couple of mins). I feel BMW has nailed the driving dynamic, space and power for this segment but the software is a hot mess (that I dearly hope gets solved)
Thanks for addressing the DCT/start-stop issue as other channels seem to avoid the obvious solution like the plague. Besides, who drives their BMW in comfort mode when there's a sport individual option?
Looking at the review about exterior and the comments, I guess the north americans and europeans do look at things differently. I for one really like the looks better than X1. Nice review guys, thanks
I know the style isn t for everyone but I absolutely love it . I might consider it . I was also looking at the GV70. Which one do you prefer ? Wish we had the EV version in Canada . It would be a great option in the EV market .
I miss the 'Roundels' on either side of the rear quarter panels. Did they drop them after the 1st gen? That was my favorite feature...it was a throwback and now it jumps out when they are missing....I think I would go with the Mini.. same car...but quirkier 🤔
Bought a 2024 X3 5 months ago. Sure you miss out on a couple of newer tech features due to it still using Idrive 7. Buttttt it has buttons. I have a button to shut off the auto stop/start. I have buttons to change driving modes. I have buttons for climate controls. This trend to move to touch screens is horrible. I also think it is also less safe.
I saw an M35i today in Niagara. Was surprised how big it looked. The owner had it wrapped in a turquoise colour and it honestly looked hideous. But that colour would look good on a 55 Chevy belair 😅
I have the 2020 X2 M35i and surprised to learn the new one is actually slower and less torque than the 2020 version. But 2020 interior is 2 generations back compared to 2024 so I wish it was only 1 generation back. But 2024 sure looks interesting
My none turbo Mazda CX5 has a similar issue. At times when starting from a stop it has a annoying hesitation which here in Fl can be very dangerous the way we make left hand turns on highways.
I like the X2 style myself, the sporty 35i is very intriguing like the equivalent MB GLA 35. The auto stop function I’ve had on CR-V and you get used to it. I’m not sure it’s that important but the X3/4 M40i has a Mild Hybrid which is better. Overall the X3 is everywhere in my city, I swear there’s as many X3 as RAV and CRV. So I like the X2 and X4 myself, the X1 and X3 are a little boring. At least the X1 has the nicer interior and I’m sure the X3 will get a refresh soon. To me the X2 35i is probably the best new design I’ve seen in awhile
Some of these interiors with everything on the screen and no buttons are making me scared I'll never be able to buy a new car again! I love my '23 Rav 4 - it has a nice screen but buttons and knobs for the important stuff and a regular gearshift. I may be keeping it forever, LOL!
I can’t see why I’d go X2 over an X1. As for the X1, loving mine (M35i) and very surprised at the mpg. I’m at 1900 miles and am getting an overall mixed average of 31.5mpg. Even going 75-80mph on highways I was sustaining 32mpg. The m35i definitely is not necessary at all (and may be stiffer) but at the time I ordered it bmw wasn’t allowing the m sport / shadow line black trim on the 28i and I did not want the chrome trim. I do like the quad exhaust look though. No real complaints so far though I’m still learning some things. I would like buttons but I’ve been able to get by okay.
That's why in my X3 M40 I always put it into Sport Plus so that it shuts off Auto Start/Stop. Or you could have it programmed to to have it off by default. These are options BMW should give it's owners by default.
I like the 2018 era of X2's - I didn't at first, but they've aged really well I think. Especially with the bigger 20" wheels. This one's probably fun to drive, but as others have said, a bit 'busy' looking or maybe over-designed
Well I’m going against the majority of the comments and say I like the exterior. I think the X1 looks too boxy. I will say that a white X2 looks better than the darker colors.
I agree, not really a fan of the exterior. I do like the colour of the leather interior in that tester. What?! No button to turn off the auto start/stop function. I know why they put it in, but I hate that stupid function. First thing I turn off when I get in my car after I start it.
Get rid of STOP/START feature on new cars. My Acura Integra has it and you have to push a switch every time you start the car to defeat it. The customer should be able to permanently shut it off through the vehicle's software. It's ridiculous.
Exterior is hideous! I agree with hubby. Sits high with what looks like narrow lawnmower wheels. And the lines, angles and edges makes it look like what we thought a futuristic car would look like twenty years ago. An no physical buttons?! Main reason why the newest model of the Golf R is sitting on lots. Complete opposite of the beautiful styling and aggressive stance of let’s say a Porsche Macan :)
Really? The start/stop an issue? Just put it off! Yeah, there is not a button to do it, but it take 2 steps to block it before departure, you should now that!
I really dispise the infotainment screen they put on these new cars. It looks like an after thought. What happen to the integrated screens?. And l agree with all the comments, this car is fugly.
You can add auto start/stop to a short cuts, and then just swipe on a screen from top to bottom, yes you have to do that every time you start the car, but after 8-10 times you getting used to it
I like it. I don't like that drab grey color. I'm sure they have other colors. Hold on a sec, I'll go to their site. Okay, I'm back. Oh, yeah, I prefer the Vegas Red Metallic. $650 extra, but well worth it. And with the options, it comes out to $53,000. A nice model, if you cannot afford the X5.
My 2015 RWD X1 2L (longitudinal) built in Leipzig was excellent for six years, one minor warranty issue except for airbag recalls. ZF 8 spd excellent too, paddle shifters help make up for no manual. $35,600 on the street :^) lifetime fuel mileage 29.7 mpg. My neighbor bought it from me, still great. Most serious criticism, run flat tires, awful ride. This car had 51% of its weight on the rear axle, the relatively short four-cyl engine was well behind the front axle. Picked it up at the Greer South Carolina factory, excellent experience and museum tour. I wouldn’t be inclined to buy the FWD platform. BMW FWD? Sacrilege.
The new Euro NCAP safety standards requiring more hard buttons cannot come into effect soon enough so we can all get past this horrible era of limitless touchscreens and capacitive touch buttons that are frankly dangerous to use.
i currently have a 2022 X3 M40i, my second x3, and i really like having both touch screen and button/controls vs all touch screen - not sure i will continue with BMW as most of their models are going towards all touch 😞
It was always a delight when I’d see a BMW X2. I thought the design was brilliant. The highlight being the twin C-pillar BMW badges… akin to the iconic M1 (well that’s a bit of a stretch, but…). This new generation… does little for me, despite (probably) being a huge step forward in it’s evolution… which is too bad. Because I thought BMW really had something special. Now, its just too much of an in-betweener (not the Marvel comic character)… something between an X1 and an X3. How boring is that? Thanks for the video.
I am a woman and i chose X2, while X1 is a beautiful classical car, it looks too masculine for my taste. I like the X2 shapes (only the back i think can be a litlle bit reworked- older model was better), it looks sporty & fun.
13:56 the brake lights flashing as the turn signals are unacceptable and needs to be illegal already. Why does BMW (and zee Germans in general) continue to unnecessarily downgrade the taillights on USDM vehicles. We deserve safe, effective and unambiguous taillights like everyone else.

As much as the beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the exterior "hunchback design" is awful. I hated it when the X6 came out first then the GLE now this.... jeez as if there are no more car designers left out in this world. As someone already commented it looks a lot like a Buick. Also BMW seems to be going lately with the oversized front "nostrils" theme and not sure is working well for them. The design is obviously evolving with time but there is nothing sexier than a classic car design with maybe few modern touches.Especially for a brand like BMW . For me, I like the look 👍👍
Reminds me of the old Pontiac Aztek
That's an insult to the Aztek.😀
I seriously just googled Pontiac Aztec because I thought the same thing!
The SHADE. I’m so here for it.
Exactly what I was thinking. Boy this thing is ugly

The back end reminds me of an old Honda Crosstour, which is not a compliment.
Exactly! I don't like the shape of this one.
I love the new redesign. It’s called odd beauty.
As someone who just bought his first SUV I can see the logic here : the trunk space is huge at this price point in luxury SUV segment

The old X2 was sexy, with a shooting brake vibe. This is a Keurig coffee maker.
Yes certainly!
I agree - I love the prior body style as it looked different from everything else.
To each his own, I think it’s the best looking BMW in 10 years.
that's just shows how horrible the last 10 years have been

Hey ! Bmw Canada, why not in Canada the X1 phev, iX1 ev and iX2 ev ?
In France they have it and more they have X1 with ice 3 cylinders !
Did the fix the crashy suspension from the X1? I drove that and quite liked it-except for the ride, which was a dealbreaker.
Would I be better off with the Mini Countryman?
What color is it?
Looks like metallic Storm Bay
Looks is great- not the boring rounded design thats always the same for years.
Agree, I think it looks great. X1 and X3 look soggy, like a London taxi.
This vehicle is a design catastrophy, but great review otherwise
