This has been my new favorite channel recently. I really like that every car you test gets a fair shot. But what is really needed is a shirt that says legs torso proportionate. With the logo also on the shirt.
Great to finally see a BMW on your test! Interested to see the higher models (X5 X7) with their RWD-based platforms off-roading, those X-drive systems should be very different.
They’ve totally done upgrades to the newer models but I had a 2015 X5 xDrive35i and it did well in snow but wasn’t terribly impressed with mild to moderate off road when it would have 2 wheels on the ground and 1-2 wheels off
2:49 - Still can't beat an Outback XT (Onyx, Limited, Wilderness or Touring) for the price. I don't think I've seen anything else as loaded and capable that's anywhere near as affordable as Subaru.
A couple of notes from my experience: I can't speak for the 28i, but the M35i has a front LSD. The M35i also comes with some things standard that are options on the 28i, so the pricing difference isn't as much as it first seems. But the M35i, to me, has a very stiff suspension to where I wish I could have gotten it with 18" wheels but those don't fit over the M sport brakes. A lot of the options can be purchased individually, which is great if you just want the base car plus one or two key things. The HK audio, for example, is a $600 option on it's own. Or $200 for heating steering wheel. But the packages are better value if you want or would use everything they include. I do wish some things were standard though like remote start. One thing on infotainment controls.. it gets a whole lot smoother once using the natural language voice control. No button pressing to activate or wait for acknowledgement... just "hey bmw, set temperation to 70 degrees". Or "hey bmw, show tire pressure" to pop up the tpms settings/info page.
5:55 well, my subaru gives me propor response and corfirms a setting change like "deactivate automatic start/stop", it shows off icon on instrument panel and on the icon onscreen just to activate it again on the next start up just great technology 🙄
The reason he is thinking it is helping is because it gradually releases brake pressure which would coincidentally feel like off road wheel breaking to assist with torque transfer.
I noticed that you didn't even attempt the logs with the BMW but it does look like it did better than the Mazda CX-30. For the price it should but too bad most BMW's have become so ugly in recent years. I initially thought "Drive-Off Support" was so the tow truck could roll into the dealer service bay. Loving my first ever Subaru BTW. The 2024 Crosstrek is pretty impressive and a great value for what you get. I went with the less aggressive but feature packed Limited vs Wilderness but it's still quite capable here in Colorado.
Watching you hunting buttons on the screen while turning to another road is a little scary. Certainly highlights how menu hunting while driving is dangerous.
I bought one of these this year and even I think it’s ugly; it looks like one of those little pug dogs. The car it replaced was a 2016 X1 which was much more attractive. However, the driving experience and quality of the X2 are outstanding and an upgrade from that X1. I also have had great experiences with the reliability of my previous Bimmers. Strangely enough some people have told me they love how it looks. I guess the designers at BMW must have had some customer research seminars with consumers who liked the “butch” look.
Yeah, just plain ugly. eww. XDrive, XMODE? Whatever. Still spins the tires forever before making the decision to move the power to another wheel. Maybe why AWD cars are about to be banned on 4WD trails. Too much damage to the trail. Luckily, this one comes with Summer tires so no damage happened to your course. lol. Great vid Ryan.
I will never understand a comment like this. Then what’s the purpose of an X vehicle.. it’s awd for a reason, it’s not lifted for no reason. It’s definitely not designed for serious off-roading like X5 is but this still is capable for what it is
Interesting to see how this car does the off-road stuff. But to me it is one of the ugliest cars on the market. What kind of drugs is the BMW design team using?
And I used to think that *I* was ugly
😂😂😂🤦🏾♂️
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂
We still are, this is just uglier. Lol
Hey "you are not ugly, you are just different ".. that's what bmw tells their cars😂
Thanks for the off-road test despite being asked not to. It's good to see how capable it is.
You get a lot of Fugly for $52k. That's an excellent value proposition.
Your trail course does a good job of showing how the AWD would do in snow. Good test.
Has BMW considered hiring a design staff?

Solid take on U2.
Your disdain for u2 is hilarious
I agree with you on the u2 part

Pretty cool that You take another road car to off road. Great review. Greetings
Drive-Off support is for when accelerating from stand still on slippery surfaces.
5:55 well, my subaru gives me propor response and corfirms a setting change like "deactivate automatic start/stop", it shows off icon on instrument panel and on the icon onscreen
just to activate it again on the next start up
just great technology 🙄
will this be reliable at 80k miles?
I’d buy a Tesla Model Y over this. The interior isn’t bad, but I don’t know how BMW approved the exterior for production!
How is it snow and ice
Drive off support is similar to hill auto hold. It will allow you to drive uphill without rolling backwards when letting go of the break.
The reason he is thinking it is helping is because it gradually releases brake pressure which would coincidentally feel like off road wheel breaking to assist with torque transfer.
I'd get the ford bronco sport badlands
Hello, Ryan. Thanks for your videos. It would be fantastic to see the Tesla Cybertruck on your Anaconda trail!
One has to ask if the 'ugly' designs across the BMW lineup are that way on purpose
The new X1 looks great, this looks awful. Last gen X2 was much better looking.

The X2 did better than expected...
Why you didn't test the x2 m35i just boggles my mind!!!

Would you please do an X7 off Road?
Rear end of that thing looks like a 2000s Kia.
Funky looking machine.
I simply bought a new Toyota Hilux = just the perfekt pick-up with no frills, simple as rock 😊
"Drive off support" 🤣
I think the translation from German to English got lost somewhere along the line lol
i tried hard, but .... i didnt get it either, while im "used to" very bad english translations from german
I like it

You could get an Outback Wilderness for $42K......a much better value for the money.
Seriously, doesnt anyone miss the days of putting a vehicle in drive and driving? No wonder everyone is so distracted while driving.
„Drive off Mode“ is NOT an offroad Mode 🤦🏼♂️
typical engineer thinking or not thinking.
U are a classic american…
I have no idea why BMW continues to insist on being so... Obtuse.
Rayan
Even the doorman could have done better.
This vehicle is by no means designed to go off-road!

Just keeps on getting uglier. 😂
Yuck!
$42k is not reasonable...
Ugly. IDC how it drives. 👎🤮
Worse ugle bmw
The greatest thing the auto industry ever did was convince people hatchbacks are SUVs
What s wrong with BMW? Bro every new model is ugliest than the previous.
Why off road it? 🫤
Why not?
@@DarkDramon because is not intended to do that, there are vehicles designed for off roading. This one is not. Simple as that.
It has an off road mode so…
@@abrahamdz1471you do realize that off-roading is not limited to tackling rock crawling trails in Moab or mudding in the La bayou, right?
