    Passive hydraulic rear self leveling suspension explained:
    After the Santa Cruz is loaded or unloaded, while driving the rear suspension automatically hydraulically actuates back to the level position.
    With a 5000 lb towing capacity the auto self leveling rear suspension system feature is a great benefit.

    I have the limited and at times want a bigger truck but this thing just keeps shining. Had heavy rains and tornadoes today and these have superior wet weather handling and bucks the wind extremely well. Today other vehicles were having a hard time just staying on the road while I was in the fast lane still booking along.

      That's more tires for wet weather. Just like people think AWD or 4 wheel drive is all you need for driving in the snow. It's useless unless you have good tires. I have a Rav4 with 4wd and works great in the snow because of the tires not the 4wd. My last car was a Sonata I passed Jeeps, Range Rovers along with many other Suvs and trucks stuck just spinning tires. Continental tires made for fuel economy have some of the best traction in snow.

    As someone who's been getting flashed at night for almost 7 months now, I firmly believe it isn't because the lights are too bright. It's because they think you're running around with no headlights and just some fog lights on. Why? Because the DRLs in the grille are light up, and the headlights are down where fog lights normally live. Combine that with the V notch in the oncoming lane that reduces the light to oncoming vehicles, and they think you don't have your headlights on. Just something you get used to ... flashing them back. LOL

      Where up north? I'm in Canada - where the DCT is the ONLY OPTION - and just went through a particularly brutal winter between extreme cold and record snow. The dual clutch works out just fine. The Santa Cruz is the best winter vehicle I've ever driven. It's like a little gecko on icy and snowy roads. The only thing I did out of the ordinary was when it was below -30 I put it in Sport mode and manually shifted to keep it from going into 8th gear. In the extreme cold, the extra RPM made a much smoother drive without affecting MPG to speak of. (IE: no difference between days I did that vs days in the -20s when I left it in Smart.)

    • @josephina24
      @josephina24 2 роки тому +2

      I live in Maine, just a stones throw from the border. From my experience in this state, the DCT wouldn't be as capable at distributing power throughout the many conditions... It sounds like, in your experience, it does just fine!

      @jaredhartley3644 2 роки тому +2

      Don't usually respond to comments but this one hits too close to home.
      I live in Maine and have an SEL premium with the DCT, got it right before our last couple storms this year and man, was I more than impressed. My 2014 4wd tacoma with dedicated winter tires handled worse than this did in snow mode with the all-seasons from the factory, and the snow mode kept the powerband and rpms low, which I imagine can help with the DCT longevity. It was a bit jerky at first but now it's comfortably broken in and feels great.
      Either one is a great choice though, hyundai nailed this ute and if you want one highly recommend it!

    A 4 door pickup is way more versatile than an SUV. You fit 4 people in the cab, (5 if they are kids), and still have a pickup bed for "dirty" hauling. I had a 2002 Tacoma double cab with the 5' bed and I built 2 houses while I had that thing. Hauled everything from lumber to tools, to bags of concrete, loose stone and 2 bobcat buckets of loose mulch...can't do that with an SUV without ruining your interior or pulling a trailer. I realize this thing is a "Ute" and not a pickup, but any vehicle with a bed is more versatile than an SUV

    I know it's divisive since it's not styled like a truck, but I actually really like Santa Cruz. I think it's a good looking vehicle and perfect for the kind of person that's got a small towable trailer and goes camping on the weekends. Tons of storage with the bed, bed trunk, cubby and roof rails for baskets or box's and the 5k towing capability is perfect for most teardrops, popups and even some ultralights. I like the design style and most of it's color options, and I love the daytimes on the higher end models. Quite frankly if I had the cash I'd probably buy one, but the Hybrid drivetrain on the Mav plus the colors on the XLT trim are very, very alluring especially now.
    I'd like to add I'm glad you guys decided not to modify it, keeping it stock will paint the best picture of what owning it will be like for most people, perhaps you should try and take it camping once or twice to see how it preforms for the market it's clearly designed after. I'd say surfing too, but it's going to be hard to find a wave in Colorado, maybe a kayak or two?

    While the gas tank size is important for range, it all depends on how you use it. A 17.4 gallon tank at 23 mpg gives you a 400 mile range, which isn’t bad. I had a Mazda B4000 98’ truck with a 18.5 gallon tank that averaged 18.5 mpg, so 340 mile range. I filled up once a week at about 270-280 miles and it was never a big deal. My previous ML350 could easily go 400-500 miles and my current Duramax Silverado will go 500-600 or more. As long as the tank size lasts between bathroom breaks, I’m cool with it. Worst was a Ford Escape I borrowed with a 12.5 gallon tank. You could barely drive 3.5 hours doing 80 (75 speed limit) on the highway. That’s some nonsense! Same 12.5 gallon tank as the Focus I had, but the Focus got 35 mpg (412 mile range) versus 25 mpg in the Escape (312 mile range). I always shoot for at least a 400 mile highway range, especially since I prefer to fill up at 1/4 tank, and the Hyundai seems to deliver that. Tommy is just a big puss!

    The fact that the Santa Cruz can tow 5000 lbs, have a payload that beats body on frame trucks, and have AWD is a testament to amazing internal teamwork between engineering and marketing and finance to bring to fruition a truck that shouldn't exist. If it were my money on the line, I'd get the SEL model (standard 2.5L and 8-speed torque converter transmission). Might not be as quick as the turbo model, but for me, the standard engine has just enough power for what I tend to do, and it's more affordable, too. Plus, as much as I love DCTs, I don't think the DCT is a great choice for a truck, though I can kind of understand Hyundai's reasoning for putting it in (they want this one to be a bit more street orientated, possibly).

I like the hauling aspect with the car like ride but I am staying away from from the DCT in the turbo model until Hyundai fixes the issues with that particular transmission. The SEL non-turbo with the activity package gets you lots for your money. It may not be as peppy but the transmission will last longer.

    If I were a farmer or rancher I wouldn’t get either of these. I’d be looking for a truck with a larger bed and more towing capacity. If I wanted a car/suv that would allow me to carry oversized items occasionally I’d get the Limited Hyundai. Because I’d spend most of my time inside the vehicle and using the bed sparingly I feel like the Hyundai is a nicer place to spend time, is faster and has better safety features. I think the Maverick is a very good option for someone that has a need for a very light duty truck, wants the piece of mind of owning a newer vehicle with the support of a warranty but also has stricter budget restraints.
