Good evening friends. I don't usually comment too much on here even though I'm a regular viewer. Becky ignited my love for gardening and I have started my first flower bed and even grown some tomatoes and peppers as well.
Today I harvested flowers to make an arrangement for my mother who is in the ICU with a bowel blockage just one week after my dad was in a motorcycle accident and suffered a punctured lung, cracked ribs and a small brain bleed. He is miraculously recovering but is also beyond exhausted as he should be resting in order to recuperate but has been at the hospital every day with my mother. Mom is 81 and dad is 78. Would you all please keep my family in your prayers? Our heads are absolutely spinning. My mom needs a miracle and we know that we serve a miracle working God! ❤ Thank you all so much.

Becky just a tip about your sweet peas. My mother grew them for many years and to keep them blooming. You need to cut the flowers and cut off the seed pods so that they sprout new flowers. Otherwise they will bloom once and quit.

Becky, if you keep picking the sweet pea flowers they will keep flowering for months. Don't let them set any seed pods because they think they have done their job (ie reproduced) and don't need to flower again once they pod. I can imagine the scent- my grandmother's garden. BTW did you know you can eat nasturtiums- the flowers and leaves are lovely in salad. The leaves are a little peppery and delicious!

Thank you, Becky for sharing your lovely garden walkthrough. I think planting so many varieties of flowers throughout your garden not only attracts a variety of pollenators, but also sparks so much joy. Not all potato varieties will bloom, so it's not a "guarantee" of good/bad harvest. Speaking of blooms, I am not certain those beans with the white blooms are scarlet runners - All the beans I've grown that said Scarlet Runner had vibrant red blossoms, though I did grow a variety from Baker Creek called Black Coat Runner bean that had a variety of pink, white, red, and almost lavender blooms so that was really fun to grow. We have luffa, Tromboncino squash, and Noodle Beans growing up arched trellises in our garden and they have really covered the whole thing! Granted, here in Georgia, it is probably hotter longer and that might make a difference in the growth habit of any vining plants. Last thing - we like to amend beds in late Autumn with "hot compost" (like chicken coop litter) and top with straw or wood chips. Then, the beds we didn't amend in Autumn get amended in early Spring with ready compost and any additional organic fertilizers get added as the plants are put in or on an "as needed" basis.

Hi Becky, it's okay if your potato plants don't flower because not all varieties flower and flowering isn't necessary for potato plants to produce tubers. Flowering and tuber production can happen at the same time, but they aren't connected. Other factors that can affect whether a potato plant flowers include the conditions like heat and water.

Snapdragons are one of my favorite flowers. Yours look beautiful and the smell of sweet peas is just lovely! I’m older and disabled now so I can’t grow a big garden like I used to, but my husband helps me plant a few small containers with my favorites for the patio with Snapdragons, sweet pea, and hydrangeas. He has several large raised beds similar to yours and he plants Mr. Stripey, mortgage lifter and oxheart tomatoes, along with a few types of Roma tomatoes for sauce, and blue lake green beans, several types of peppers, lettuces, radishes, cucumbers, and one giant bed of herbs for me. Basil, oregano, mint, cilantro, flat leaf parsley, tarragon, chives, thyme, rosemary and sage.. I love cooking with fresh herbs and just sitting and smelling the lovely scent of the flowers!

Great video, as always! One thing I've been doing with my blueberries is picking all the ones that are at least "mostly blue". A tiny bit of pink left on one side works, so long as like 90% of the berry is blue. Then I leave them in a large bowl overnight and find that the next day they are ALL ripe. Then I rinse in a collander to get rid of any little sticks/stems/bugs and freeze or make jelly/syrup. Cheers!

Becky, consider growing grapes over the arch: you’ll not only get loads off grapes, but you’ll also get grape leaves! The different recipes of stuffed grape leaves are so much fun: there’s a cinnamon raisin flavor profile, and the Irby kind I grew up with; there’s a rice stuffing that’s generally served cold versus a meat stuffing that’s generally served hot, and I’m sure there’s all kinds of other things you can do with them, too. Another friend benefit you get some shade that you can plant under.
But whatever you decide to do will be great, I know! ❤

I love your garden videos. Even though I come from a long line of Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina farmers, I have two black thumbs. I still have a great appreciation for people who can grow things.

Becky, the Scarlet Runner Beans should have bright red flowers. There must have been some seed mixup at the place you bought them.

Beer traps for slugs works a treat. And will not hurt pets or wildlife. I used them for one season and have not seen a snail or slug in my garden since. An idea for your garlic garden next year, move it to the end of the irrigation, and get Josh to put an isolator tap in for that garden bed. That way you will be able to turn the water off on that bed and the others before it will still get watered.

Becky, I do not garden myself, but enjoy watching you and your cooking videos. I just want to tell you about another utber, it is called Garden Answer. Her name is Laura and she and her husband own property in eastern Oregon. She grows all kinds of things from, flowers to produce; they grow with organic soil enhancements that maybe you don’t know about. She is a wealth of knowledge and just a delight to watch. I was just thinking that you might be able to learn more than you already know from her. She produces a video per day, but they are hardly ever more than 25 minutes. Hoping you might give her a glance. I enjoy your videos very much.

I love watching you in your gardening journey. I saw another homesteader (The 1870 Homesteader)canning recently. She made Zucchini Bread Jam. She got her recipe from another homesteader. I don’t garden, but it sounded interesting, so I may purchase some zucchini to try it.

Have a shut off valve on each of your garden beds. It really helps to keep the watering in each bed specific for each plants needs. I love to go out in the evening and smell the petunias. They smell wonderful at twilight.

Becky, for your wildflower beds, I would plant Jerusalem Artichokes. They make a really tall stem and have yellow flowers on them that look like daisies. In the fall, dig up the tubers and they’re delicious!!! Just place the small tubers back into the dirt and they’ll produce again for future eating.

Growing pole beans on your arch trellis next year is a good idea. You can also grow tromboncino or zucchino rampicante on an arch too for some fun. I enjoy growing the latter in our garden, since we have vine borrers that destroy vines, but planting these squash type zucchini helps.
