OMG as a kid hanging on to my aunt and mother in the Brooklyn fabric stores, I was bored stiff. Recently I was thinking of those bolts and bolts and here is a video which looks like Brooklyn in the fifties when I was a tot. Love it.
That's amazing. Happy these brought back memories 💖
I'm soooo glad you posted this video. I'm originally from Brooklyn and didn't know these shops existed. I love them all but will definitely check out the one in Jamaica Queens on my next road trip from Albany to Queens. The discounted prices will allow me to try new sewing projects, and if I mess up I won't feel so bad. Later, I will check out the African shops in Harlem when I visit my sister. I love love love African prints. Thank you, again.
+FrancescaDonnaMarie You're welcome and happy it was helpful! And yes budget fabrics are great to experiment with :D
I have been watching you about a year now. I love to sew and you inspire me more and more every time I watch that I am capable. And you make it look so easy. Thank you Peace and Love

I went to Harlem a couple of weeks ago and visited Yara Fabrics. The lady who works there "Bella" is great. She helped me with a circle skirt pattern, and gave me a good price on 10 yards of African Fabric. Thanks for the referral.
+Sky Chandler You're welcome!
The last shop you featured is my number 1 fabric shop in NYC. The shop I'm looking for sells pol'cotton fabrics so I can make athletic wear.
+Dale Mcilwain that's so cool!
Oh boy I'm in love with the African prints need a road trip 😍😍
+Ne Lopes you should! Where are you based? I'm across the ocean so I can't swing by every time I want to lol

Great video. I have been a customer of Moctar’s for over ten years. Yara African fabric has a great selection and he also does wholesale accounts. I am going to have to visit the store in Queens. My last trip to Moctar’s I also visited a nice shop on Third Avenue in the Bronx for Ankara fabric.

Good
I seen those fabrics on Etsy as well
Mr. Dam my uncle, I will tell him I saw him on youtube☺️ I know all the those people you featured in your video, I get a lot of my cheap fabrics from Africa directly and when I use to be in fashion school

Have you ever tried akn fabrics in NYC? Also I'm a designer looking to use African fabric but is it difficult to get large quantities on these fabrics?

ask baba from kaarta fabrics or moctar (both african shops in harlem) for large quantities as they shpuld be able to do it ☺
