Basel, Switzerland is a great international city right on the border with France and Germany, and a major railroad hub. If you are passing through by train, while you're changing trains, perhaps you'll have enough time to take a look at the city of Basel.

Switzerland playlist bit.ly/2qsUism In our case we only had a hour and a half between trains, but you can leave your luggage of the station, hop in a taxi and head right into downtown Basel which is very close to the train station, of course.
Our driver dropped us off at Claraplatz, only took about ten minutes to get here from the station. And this is part of the new town. You see it's a lovely little square and flowers and benches and shops around it, and the tram l, ine lots of trams running through Basel. Trams make an ideal way to travel for visitors with little time, because the service is frequent s, o we figured okay, let's hop on the tram and head into the Old Town, crossing the river Rhine.
You'll find that you can see the highlights of Basel in just about one hour, and if you're really pressed for time head straight for the main square of the Old Town, the Marktplatz, the marketplace, and you'll find there's food stands, lots of people cheese and flowers for sale, and maybe you can get a quick lunch at the sausage stand. And don't worry about the schedule, because this market is open every day of the week.
Of course you could spend several days enjoying Basel and its surroundings. There is so much to see here. For example, you could visit forty different museums and soak up the multicultural ambience of the city with that international location at the border of Switzerland, France and Germany. And with it all, they claim a Mediterranean flair, with three hundred days of sunshine a year and a fair temperate climate. Basel is generally counted among the cities with the highest standard of living in the world, so you could really enjoy an extended stay here. However, in our case we're just changing trains so we're giving you a quick look.

Actually, Basel SBB Station is wholly in CH. There’s a “French” area Gl. 30-35 where SNCF commuter TER trains arrive and depart. TGV trains arrive and depart at the main part of the station.
Fun fact, a cheap way to get to/from Paris is using OUIGO to/from Strasbourg combined with TER to/from Basel. I did it last month for less than $100 each way for two travelers. I’ve only beat that price once in 4 visits to Basel.

I youst to live in basel switzerland and me and my family went to the market place (market plasse) all the time!I know how to speak German and I went to German school for two yeers!
0:38 Your taxi driver clearly screwed you over. First, you shouldn't take taxis in Basel, they are unbelievably expensive. Plus, Claraplatz is at the other end of the old town if you start at the train station. It would have been a 5 minutes taxi drive or 10-15 minutes walk to the start of the old town. (Plus the part of the old town that is close to the train station is the bigger and more beautiful one)
You are correct. We realized when he dropped us off we were not where we wanted to be, so hopped a tram to get back to the actual Old Town. This was during a two-hour layover between trains, so we naively thought a taxi would be the fastest way to the Old Town, wrong! At least we finally got to the nice part of town by the City Hall, with a market going on, that was worth it, lesson learned.
Go to the French speaking part of Switzerland. I would love to see your videos from there

I‘m afraid that you missed 95% of the old town. Especially Cathedral hill and Spelenberg, Heuberg, Nadelberg. Yes, come back for a day or two. You won‘t regret it.
