And that, boys & girls, is what trucking was like in the old days; the 60s, 70s, & 80s. The cb chatter and the laughs that came with it made the hours and the miles just melt away...
So much history talk on this run. Company, trucks, states, road, drivers and etc. Don't get a lot of radio talk like this often in a video. Pretty cool.
Pretty cool seeing you run with someone else and hearing the CB chatter and over 40 mins worth makes it even better. Thanks for doing what you do, keep on truckin!
Listening to that truck work brings back riding with dad for weeks or months on end whenever I could. Orwell is a beautiful machine, I see so many cabovers just parked to rot. Makes me sad. I’ll always love em more than conventionals.
I miss the CB Chatter. Great hearing it again as it brings back a lot of great memories. Especially meeting new friends you only knew by their "Handle's" and finally putting faces and names with them at the "Coffee Break's". Back in the day everyone had a CB in their vehicles. I still do but hardly ever hear anyone in the city. Good old channel "19". Orwell kick's ass !!! Two Thumbs Up !!!
my cb has been pretty busy here lately pretty much from channel 2 to 39. its a good thing to hear, some of it good, some of it garbage but its still going on which is good!
i started watching your videos to help me miss my best buddy i called "truck driver my ass!" he died on april 1st 2005 he was in a head on with a warner truck near marion county kansas and the wreck took both drivers on impact they said. he usede to pick me up n tell my guy he d bring me back in a week or two and off we d go. him n i bounced around this country together for several years and we were never anything more than buddies but we were close like we were kin. since he left i ve missed both him and riding shot gun. the sounds of your videos are soothing to me and don t take this the wrong way but i find myself in a good sleep by the 2nd or 3rd video since i que up a few in my playlist i am zonked as long as there is the sound of the truck playing. thank you for posting these (and fyi i have more than one youtube account so i tend to switch up depending on which computer i m on)keep 'em 'tween them lines and hope ya have a good and safe trip every time. TA TA 4 NOW! jnette-nette
That's the best part . . . listening to those CATS purr and ROAR !!!!! On a construction job Sight, me and my 1693 getting loaded with a 245 CAT BACKHOE, right next to 637 scrapers being PUSHED and PULLED by a pair of D9s. . . . . . . . SYMPHONIC !!!!!!!!!!
I suspect the folks in these cute little rural areas wonder why they are getting the Permit Loads through their quiet communities. Steve, nice you were able to be a point man for the Keene guy behind you. Safe travels.
I have not been on that Route 20 in many years.... before the Mass Pike was built it was the only way WEST out of Boston to Albany and beyond... We drove mostly at night and it was convoy west and east every other night... That "Jacob's Ladder" is still there I see and as beautiful as ever.. I spent a year hauling the US Mail from Boston to Springfield and Albany with a "twin stick" Mack!! Great memory Steve!! Thanks for sharing ~~ now onto Cape Cod!!
Truck is like 37 years old...I saw 2 peterbilt cabovers like Orwell in the truck auction book one was a 84..good shape bright red. 44 grand...the other one had the smaller sleeper on it it was a little less..I think they wanted like 38
Awesome video I sure miss them days riding with parents and hearing the CB chatter and hearing all the Trucking story's and history or going to the Truck Stop and talking to Driver's about there Trucks and hearing the road story's safe travels y'all
I can't get enough of your videos .... awesome truck, awesome landscape, awesome stories .... and the camera angles are perfectly chosen! ... Thanks and have a good trip at all times!
Loved seeing Lewiston ID, kid was doing virtual school last year, before he graduated, went bear hunting, from that town, fly into Spokane with his grandfather. He said learned more that week than the final 3 months. Keep up the good work. Nephew is learning more from you than school.....
I live in Pensacola Florida, my stepdad is originally from Milwaukee. I have been watching your channel for a good while now Steve love the content man keep it up
Thanks for the trip through Westfield MA! Been to there a few times 10 years ago. The old wooden RR bridge was mismarked for height heading south back then. They fixed the sign now! Went to the paper Mill by the McDonalds (38:30), and to another place on the south side of town.
I never delivered to that paper mill I use to deliver to the one out by Orange Mass on the river I use to go to the Home Depot distribution center and I think it was the old Ames distribution center in Westfield Mass
No matter which industry you work in or for, the devil you know versus the devil you don’t know!! Loved hearing the conversation between two professional truck drivers. Keep the rubber side down!
Used to deliver to a place in Lee, MA. We would pickup in Holyoke MA afterwards. We ran rt 20 sometimes for shts and giggles and a change in scenery. Instead of using the MA Pike. Thanks for the memories
Steve that cat sounded good going up them hills in this video....I bet that 12v detroit you got would sound like a banshee under same load...can't wait for that one
It was like I was in the truck with you, used to ride Rt 20 all the time on my FXRS, great road with the curves and next to the river and not much traffic!!!!!!!
Nice ride Steve welcome to Otis air national base. Swing by Nantucket, you'll need a permit for the 27 mile bit of water. Orville would be a hoot bumping over main street heading for Sconset' east of the island. Thank you Steve. We have many of the big rigs.
Best one yet. Route 20 in Mass. I ran that road in the mid 70's hauling 6000 gals of hot tar from New Haven CT to Pittsfield MA. Driving a 1971 White 4000 day cab. Have you ever heard of "velvet ride"?
Steve you aint kidding about Amazon the driver I talked to basicly said they are micromanaged to death And i run the south region for CFI as company and your exactly right about the modern rental operator they portray as owner operator i wouldnt touch owner op unless trucks paid for or was percentages
Steve , I've hauled coal for over thirty years , in the last ten years between 50 and 60 tons every load all day , you've got to use the Jake upshifting , without the clutch , if you don't , it's going to be another transmission and a clutch .
Enjoyed the trip on the back roads of western Mass. Looks like it's still winter up there. I wish your nephew luck - in Kansas, they found out pretty quickly that virtual school crap didn't work: too many kids were falling behind. They finally had to completely reopen the schools as a result. 21:43 - Historical Marker perhaps?
Hey that start up run is in my back yard. 2.08 - Mass Pike to Rt 20 east - I live 20 minutes south. Geez they diverted you overJacobs Ladder because of bridge work on the pike.
Great stuff Steve, yeah I don’t get Happiness by the mile either. I believe she bought 4 trucks and started her own sub contract business with FedEx. I would of got one and seen how it went for me and another team driver first. Then added on if business was great. When stuff opens back up people are gonna go back to the stores tired of being coup’d up for a 1-1/2 years.
I have had many long trips talking to drivers running w coast from Georgia. I was O O and my b inlaw was cpy driver for Comscope.we would hookup and drive cross country. I retired in 014.
IS THERE STILL AN OLD TRUCK STOP CALLED MASS 10 JUST OFF THE MASS PIKE, I USE TO STOP THERE BACK IN THE 70 S AND EARLY 80 S, A COP USE TO MARK YOUR HEADLIGHTS WITH WAX WHEN MAKING ROUNDS, IF YOU WERE STILL IDELING YOUR ENGINE WHEN HE CAME BACK, HE D WRITE YOU A TICKET.

Reminds me of when my dad was driving a truck..
@@fireman_17 Same here, I get that feeling every time I watch FSC videos.
Ditto

I suspect the folks in these cute little rural areas wonder why they are getting the Permit Loads through their quiet communities. Steve, nice you were able to be a point man for the Keene guy behind you. Safe travels.
Just blame it on Waze.
That was 40 plus minutes of good ole CB chatter and the sweet sound of that 3406B chugging along....

I useta pull outside contract loads for Keen in the late 90s. Always fair to me..
That was a fun video to watch with the cb chatter from the Keen driver. Keep up the great work, Steve!

You got the best Cabover content on UA-cam hands down 🤝
That area is my old stomping grounds. Nice to see the scenery from back there. That's where I grew up. Southern Vermont, Northern Mass.
No matter which industry you work in or for, the devil you know versus the devil you don’t know!! Loved hearing the conversation between two professional truck drivers. Keep the rubber side down!
That make the day go by faster when you have someone to talk to
Used to deliver to a place in Lee, MA. We would pickup in Holyoke MA afterwards. We ran rt 20 sometimes for shts and giggles and a change in scenery. Instead of using the MA Pike. Thanks for the memories
I’m a Mass native, and ran that section of rt 20 many times. Norman Rockwell country. I loved Mass, but my wallet took me to NH and a home up here.
With tears in my eyes.
13:33 - That sound!! 🔥 🔥🔥🔥 🔥🔥.
Mr Steve u successfully navigated what was back in the day referred to as "Jacobs Ladder" (Rt 20-up & down Blanford Mtn)--
Wow wow Orwell can really get loud so cool!!!!
I love Orwell and the best sounding jake brakes
Steve that cat sounded good going up them hills in this video....I bet that 12v detroit you got would sound like a banshee under same load...can't wait for that one
Oh same here. I just gotta rebuild it and figure what kind of truck to put it in.
@@fsctrucking a long hood or cabin over white freightliner would be my pick...but is a 12v...it would be cool no matter what kind of truck it's in
Looks like a beautiful area to visit, thanks Steve.
Pretty interesting and cool. CB chat made the video even better. Truck safe.
I love Orwells sound
Like the great Clarence Werner would remind me 20 years after I started driving truck, "YOURE STILL A ROOKIE!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It was like I was in the truck with you, used to ride Rt 20 all the time on my FXRS, great road with the curves and next to the river and not much traffic!!!!!!!

Damn Orwell is a good sounding truck
Plus camera position brilliant.!
I drive a cab over as well, a small extension for that shifter will make it shift so much easier. Just a small extension nothing crazy

Nice little ride over jacobs ladder

Is that left stack bigger than the right stack? Is it the camera angle or is the right stack facing forward more? 🤔
I love the sound of Oswell, is it six or eight cylinder?
3406B. Inline 6 cylinder.

Great to hear you guys jawing on the cb, I think your door seal may have shrunk in the rain Steve! I see you get dickhead drivers there too! 😂👍🏻👏🏻🇬🇧
Great videos!
How do you know how much fuel to get if you are made to run back roads
