    Hello Chris, nice comparison, keep in mind that the new Rode Wireless Go ii can record internally in each transmitter.

      Thank you, I think I am mentioning that toward the end. However, you also have to keep in mind that the Rode Wireless Go II does not have a good mobile app to manage those things and also does only record in 24bit which you have to be careful with while setting the levels since you potentially can't monitor them while you are recording (depending on your setup).

      @@ChrisSpiegl You are right, but I think Rode will soon release an app to change settings using the mobile devises. Keep up the good work! 👍

      @@ramdelgp That would be wonderful. I am all for a good amount of competition between these things… but the 32bit float and timecode are still two killer features of the Tentacle Track E ❤.

      It can, but because of limitations with the uncompressed recordings, the Rode will only record up to 30.44s before splitting the recording up. There is a loss of recording while the recording restarts. This makes the internal recording a bit useless for long recordings.

      @@ChrisSpiegl Does this mean the Rode Wireless Pro is nowadays the best choice?

    Or is timecode not necessary in times of advanced sync features like in Davinci Resolve 19?

      Depending on your production needs, I would say the Røde Wireless Pro definitely is the all-rounder solution these days. The Track E still has its place, but it certainly is getting thin air with the competition out there.
      The Timecode feature of the Wireless Pro is limited, though. That's when on bigger productions it just will not cut it. Especially because you can't really sync two Wireless Pro to each other (at this time).

    So the rode wireless go is better for recording directly to camera?
    Also how does time sync work with the tentacle e? Like how can a body pa k recorder sync with the time code of my camera?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, when you don't want to worry about additional devices and all, the Wireless Go would be the "easier choice".
      To use timecode with any camera you'd have to invest into the Tentacle Sync E system (ua-cam.com/video/Dxwfsrj9wTM/v-deo.html) and in combination with the Tentacle Track E you then would have 32bit float audio on the Track E and timecode on the Sync E + a great Syncing software.

    I do hiking camping
    If set up at start of day and sync at home you have one huge long clip to edit isn't that difficult to break up into small video chunks without the bits when you're not recording?

    Do you need one sync e per camera or can one sync e do several plus does it work with 360?
    Can two mics be set up on one track e? For mic second person

    Could you use an output on the Rode wireless GO II to feed the mic input on the Tentacle sync e, so that you can have the wireless transmission to camera, and the local 32bit recording?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Рік тому

      Theoretically yes. But at that point, it's too complicated and probably prone to failure. Just use the Rode 16 or 24 bit recording… it's good enough.

    Hi Chris, very clear comparison! Can the Track e sync timecode with Sony fx3 on it's own, or would you need to use the separate tentacle sync in addition?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  Рік тому

      Sadly, at the moment I am not aware of a way on how these two would be synced. Possibly, if the FX3 has an Timecode out which you could use to sync the Tentacle Track E…
      I have asked Tentacle Sync a few times if they would ever just make it so that the Track E also could be used as a Sync E… but at this point they have not confirmed if this would ever be possible.

    Hi Chris,
    Good video. I have the Go2 but looking for body pack.
    Comparing Instamic Pro Plus vs Tenacle Track E. What would be your recommendation? I would synch it with the Synch E.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  2 роки тому +1

      The Instamic looks promising (have not used it) with the different features like being water proof to 1m and such. The fact that it supports Tentacle Sync syncing is also really good. I guess it comes down to their audio processing and if it is as good as the Tentacle Track E. I will reach out to them and ask. Let's see.
      One point I dislike: they write that the Instamic has a Micro-USB connection. In 2021 I don't approve of that! It should be USB-C since everything else is going into that direction.

      @@ChrisSpiegl, thanks for the quick reply.
      Yeah I saw the micro USB. I think the engineers probably didn’t want to rework a new power management circuit that supports USBC.
      From what I see, it can go up to 96kHz (vs 48kHz on Track E) and has a max SPL of 135dB (vs 110dB). It has 6 mic stereo but no 3.5mm input and output jacks as you monitor the audio from the smartphone app. It seems to have double the battery life for a full day shooting and different mounting options.
      Would be great if they can give you a set to test out. It seems to say it can work with the bluetooth to pair with the Insta 1R like with the airpods.
      Just don’t know how much work is needed to synch in post or the Track E is more integrated.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  2 роки тому +2

      @@nomad0714 Yes, you are probably right about the USB-C, but it sure shows how invested they are in the product.
      I personally would 100% prefer to have a 3.5mm jack for versatility and the ability to use small lavalier mics and also use the recorder with other mics like the Rode VideoMic NTG.
      The higher Sample Rate doesn't really matter in like 99% of cases and battery life is absolutely incredible on the Track E in my experience. I never had it run out during a day worth of shooting.
      Lastly, the syncing process is probably similar if not the same if the Instamic actually does support storing the SMPTE Timecode in file. However, it is not a stand alone Timecode generator from what I gather. It just can use the Bluetooth signal of the other devices or your phone to store the correct information.
      At the end, I am probably going to suggest the Track E for professional use. It has the 3.5mm jack, it has an actual Timecode Quartz which makes it super accurate over long periods of time even if further away form the Timecode sources, and just works very easily. The one thing I wish it would have is Bluetooth Monitoring or at least the ability to test download a file via bluetooth for preview listening.
      Cheers, I contacted Instamic, so we'll see what they say.

      @@ChrisSpiegl, thanks for your comprehensive reply.
      I’ll probably end up getting both during Black Friday or Xmas and see if they’re on sale.
      For Track E + Synch E combo, I can see it being used for paid projects where you need reliable audio on body packs.
      For Pro Plus + Track E, with the small form factor, waterproof/dustproof up to 1m, has a lot of use cases for action sports or regular vlogging that is wireless, hands-free and having audio in places where it is difficult places or outside wind (even with a wind muff). I just saw a video of it being placed inside and attached to the helmet of a rider on a scooter and the audio was pretty good.
      Another use case for body packs, I wonder when filming at high frame rates where there is no audio in these modes on a mirrorless camera (Canon R5), can we add audio from either Pro Plus or Track E and synch later in post.
      Anyhow, good options out there, depending on the use cases.
      Lastly, FYI, just wanted to share that PicoMic just came out with their ver02 also called PicoMic 2 Pro. It allows for backward compatibility to the Receiver module so you that if you have ver01, you can just upgrade to Pro2 and buy only the transmitters. If you’re a new user, then you would just buy the Pro2 kit set and it has all lots of control functions. It is a wireless so it will compete with the Rode, Deity, Sarmonic, Lark150, etc etc in the wireless 2.4GHz frequency band.

      @@nomad0714 That's thorough thinking 👍.
      About High FPS filming: the only issue you would run into is that you'd have to sync based on a clap sync since the camera may not record audio it would also not record the timecode provided by the Tentacle Sync E. But otherwise, you are right, this would still record audio and work.
      About the PicoMic: thank you pointing that out. I tried getting my hands on the V1 and they were sold out for like a year or so. Plus the V2 looks more interesting because it provides a 3.5mm jack. So we'll see how it performs.
      One thing about all these competing products so: I have a feeling Røde is pretty far head of all of them (when Røde has a competing product). Now with the Wireless Go II… I mean… I would choose that for wireless stuff - despite seeing some benefits in what others offer, the sound quality of the Røde has been the best so far in these types of kits. But competition is good… not sure if Røde would have ever come out with a 2 transmitter + 1 receiver version of the Wireless Go if others would not have done that.
      Cheers 👍

    The best way is to use a sync device on your cameras and use the RODE GO II with safe recording turned on. This means you will get one audio track recorded directly onto the video track, and if there is any issue, such as interference or a cable problem, you always have a 24 or 32-bit recording saved on the unit itself. This way, your audio track is already synchronized with the video, and you have a backup copy of your audio track on the RODE microphone transmitter.

      And when you now use the new Røde Wireless Pro, you'll get timecode with that as well 👍.
