He's def a Legend and so consistent in his interviews , he tells them the same way no changing them, so you know he's being honest and not adding or making shit up ... Preem is def HOF in hip hop
Must have heard pretty much every Primo interview out there and I have to say this has got to be my fave to date. You asked some fantastic questions and really got to the heart of primos beat making processes asking a lot of the questions I would like to ask. Well done man! Would love to hear you speak to Pete now!!!
The difference between and regular interviewer who doesn't even make up his/hers question compared to someone who is genuinely passionate about Hip-Hop.
Preme is the 🐐 He might not have sold the records Dre, Tim or Swizz have but he can make songs with Group Home, Bahamadia, Guru, Jay, Big L, Fat Joe, Nas, Jeru, D’Angelo, Krs, M.O.P., etc and make em all dope and become classics. The dude is amazing. He even made a song with Limp Bizkit sound 🔥🔥🔥
Two Cents J he got the streets. Hes part of the core of hip hop. Almost every real MC knows if you get on a Preemo beat you gotta go in for the kill lol
Two Cents J premo and pete rock influenced more young producers than any other... From drums to cuts, to sample structure, to bass lines to overall song production. Jaydee (Dilla) spent many years of his young career analyzing these dudes whole sound and technique. He became a master himself as a result. Peace to GrapLuva, Large Pro, Easy Mo, Lord Finesse and Show Biz, Erick Sermon, Beatnuts, Ghetto Pros, Etc!
kids dont realise this is the type of golden nugget you would buy magazines for, you would just find a gem every once in a blue moon and it would not just make youre day or the fact that you would read it over and over for the next year but shit like this back in the days would change youre life.As a beatmaker i remember finding a Preemo interview where he mentioned he would just go throigh records for days, weeks, maybe a year untill he had found that specific sound he was looking for to fit the beat, and i ended up using that slice of knowledge and really got busy with it...i hope kids r taking these gems from podcasts today (as knowledge is in abundance right now) and not just appreciating it but using it to there advantage....I see kids type in songs from the last 5-6 decades saying how they wish they was living in them days as a kid (70s,80s,90s for example). But if you ask me (born in 81) i think if you into this music, or whatever it is ure creative at, I think right now you as a teenager to a man on the other side of 40 i think theres no reason why you cant get to where you wanna be , aslong as you stay original, humble, persistent and dedicated we in a good time to shine...its far from over., this a really dope interview, big fan of Rapaport too ,great actor, great energy and is humble.peace
Salute.... Great interview. Rapaport can be a little much, but he knows his hip hop and loves and respects the Legends and the culture. Prems stories are amazing. Respect to both. Rapa get all the greats up in there, we need it.
Damn ! My favorite podcast so far!!!! I wish Dilla was alive so he could be in this too. Michael Rapaport is a true hip hop fan and an awesome interviewer !!!!
You can tell Mike is a real fan by how excited he is to be there. Primo is a genius and has had his hand in so much of the texture of what we call real hip-hop.
I can listen to Preemo telling stories for days! Just imagine that moment with Nasty Nas on the booth spitting NY state of mind first verse in one take!!! Only Mcs and producers can feel that moment too deep!
Dear Mr. Rapaport. This Interview is from now on one of my Top 5 Interviews on YT/with Premo, if not Top 3... Why? -You Sir, are the embodiment of the ultimate "Interviewer" -You loose it when you love something and you are not ashamed to show it to your interview partner OR the audience. (Artists AND fans love that ishh) -You embrace the culture the way it NEEDS to be embraced... -... and (most importantly) YOU KNOW YOUR SHIT!!!!!! - I will always be thankful for you sticking to the "I´m the man" / "Speak Yo clout"-subject!!! I wanted to hear this answer since "Daily Operation" came out in the early 90s....and all of a sudden (in 2018) YOU SIR asked the the question completly out of the blue. Thank YOU for showin so much appreciation. I am a fan from now on! #wordisbond
I like that "To Be Continued..." from Preem at the end. Yo, Mike, if you don't make another one with Preem with the rest of the questions, Imma find you and throw hands at you!!! Nuff respect for both of you!!!
Mike, you are the man for this interview. Premiere and Gangstar are the reason I know good hip-hop and have listened to the good stuff from the beginning. I taught myself to dance listening to that 2001 Full Clip album with DJ Quick coming on every minute or so promoting the album release over the tracks, lol. My favorite hip-hop song of all time is still Above the Clouds. Great questions and I learned more about Premo that I didn't know before and I respect him so much more now. My favorite DJ of all time!!! And now you are my favorite interviewer!! Much respect and love:)
One thing that stands out the most when you listen to any longer bit with preem is his attitude; even though he IS the single most influential producer in the history of rap and one of the objectively greatest beatmakers out there, he always speaks (and probably see the world) out of perspective of a fan. Even when - very seldom - he acknowledges his impact, he's still humble and full of joy that he could witness this or that. He SHOOULD be introduced to Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I especially liked the bits when he talked about stuff he didn't know in the beginning; Technical things, like the bit about sampling the drums (even though he did sample melodies) or other things - I didn't know that shit either when I started and hearing that my hero had same issues and went the same roads as I did later on makes me feel better about myself; we're all humans after all. But there's some praise that has to be given to Rapaport too; You, my dude, were always an actor for me, first and foremost. But seeing you asking those questions - so thought out and well prepared - made me sit in awe. I usually don't listen to podcasts much, but yours is for me up there, with Talib's People Republic. If there were rap pulitzers, you deserve at least three.
Great interview and show, Premo is on the Mount Rushmore of hip hop producers and my personal favorite. More than your acting I’ll always support you for your love of hip hop, when it come to hip hop I’m the LA Cuban version of you, much respect 👊
Thank you for the Speak ya Clout question. Definitely wanted to ask that too. Btw, I think the first to do the beat change thing was UTFO with Roxanne Roxanne
He's like Martin Scorsese when it comes to Producing Genres people assume Premiere either have no business or incapable of mastering. But being A DJ, he can recreate any Artist he's into at Their"peak" Commercial Level
drumatic the same dudes that Premo talks about, that dont do their hip-hop 101 before they wanna “get into” the culture. you gotta be crazy to thumbs down this
Wesley Pembleton Jr i question their motivation for clicking on the video in first place - if you didnt come here to be purely entertained and just geek out on some og hiphop history.
DJ Premier is the Jesus Christ of production he is my all time favorite producer period Gang Starr is my favorite all time group I have all they albums and DJ Premier has never let me down ever Premo has produced a lot of my favorites and I’m fucking excited even talking about it Long Live DJ Premier
Was anyone else upset when Michael mentioned joints he wanted to talk about but skipped them do to time restraints? They were joints no one had asked Premo about (Show Biz and AG, OC). Michael, I beg you. Please do a part 2.
Fucking right. Take It Personal & Mass Appeal are the songs that made me absolutely fall in love with Preems beats. I had liked them before but Take Itn was just so dark murky and atmospheric. And Mass was just bonkers beautiful....I was like 12 when it came out but I knew that he was different at that point.... perfect songs and an amazing album...
Fuckin' Preem. Man, I have so much respect for this dude.. Him and Havoc helped me learn how to make beats, not literally of course, but their tracks gave me the foundation of how my shit sounds, especially in the beginning.
During the Jay Z story. A Million and 1 Questions is on Volume 1 (1997), The Jay Z song with 2 short is actually on Volume 2 (1998). Its crazy how artists make songs and hold them for a while until the time is right.
They were speaking on "A Million And One Questions" but The Remix was Playing In The Background lol It's all Good though both Versions are Classic.....
yes!!!! this was the best one sofar my man this shit is str8 fire thankyou for doing this the video podcast is where its atwatching this smoking a fat fuckin joint i felt like i was in the room with yall more video episodes this is mint!!!!!
Preem is such a great storyteller. I had the honor of bumping into him randomly at a convention and we chatted for a minute. Good dude. Legend.
He's def a Legend and so consistent in his interviews , he tells them the same way no changing them, so you know he's being honest and not adding or making shit up ... Preem is def HOF in hip hop
Throwboy I wish I was you @ that moment. My dude
Preemo's memory is legit, I can't remember what happened yesterday, meanwhile Preemo over here effortlessly recalling details from 30 years ago
Seriously right it’s nuts!
One thing I admire about Premier is his genuine love of music. I'd love to hear a song through his ears.
He really still seems like a true music fan to this day. That makes for a great DJ / Producer. Still sounds excited about Mali g music . too.
Must have heard pretty much every Primo interview out there and I have to say this has got to be my fave to date. D The Chemist Well Freddie Foxx Begs To Differ Peep "Lazy!" If you haven't already lol Much Props....
That's called being consistent !

Damn ! My favorite podcast so far!!!! I wish Dilla was alive so he could be in this too. Michael Rapaport is a true hip hop fan and an awesome interviewer !!!!
Oh WOW with the Sade and Prince Co-Sign. That's big then and even bigger now to hear that.
Oh shit! DJ Premier name checking The Smiths and Siouxsie, totally unexpected. Good Interview.
WOOOOOW!!! DJ is the DOPEST producer/storyteller in Hip Hop... PERIOD!!!
You can tell Mike is a real fan by how excited he is to be there. Primo is a genius and has had his hand in so much of the texture of what we call real hip-hop.

Hands down the greatest producer of all time. No one has matched his consistent output/quality for decades.
Tremendous! Thanks for this.
AMAZING INTERVIEW. Thank you
My favorite Preemo interview!!!
Preemo greatest production on an album is group home album. Every single beat was 🔥🔥🔥 he made 2 basic rappers sound incredible with an amazing album
Jay B You Do Know Premier didn't Produce the ENTIRE Album Right....R.I.P to GURU......
Facts.
Agreed...although I think guru did one or 2 joints on it.. but even still you can tell the whole album had Premo executive touch on it
@@fairplayterrific147 Guru made the worst track on that album.
Mike, you are the man for this interview. Premiere and Gangstar are the reason I know good hip-hop and have listened to the good stuff from the beginning. Man this made me so happy and nostalgic. Made me forget about my problems. Thank you!
GREAT INTERVIEW !!! YOU ARE BOTH NATIONAL TREASURES
Say what you like about Rapaport, the guy loves hip hop and this is a great interview.

Mike, you did a great job on this one.....especially loved the question where you asked Preem his top 5 rappers he's never worked with.
When u play a rap song with a premier beat: "Oh so you listen to Hip-Hop Hip-Hop?" 😂💯💯💯🎤
He's like Martin Scorsese when it comes to Producing Genres people assume Premiere either have no business or incapable of mastering. But being A DJ, he can recreate any Artist he's into at Their"peak" Commercial Level
Who would give this inverted thumb? This is history!
drumatic the same dudes that Premo talks about, that dont do their hip-hop 101 before they wanna “get into” the culture. you gotta be crazy to thumbs down this
Wesley Pembleton Jr i question their motivation for clicking on the video in first place - if you didnt come here to be purely entertained and just geek out on some og hiphop history.

My favorite beat of all time is one of his "less famous"... OC - My Wold (damn just heard.. Michael mentioned it...)
I've always said that "My World" is a top 10 all time Preemo beat. Shit is INSANE
Facts....I was mesmorized when I heard that beat for the 1st time around '96-'97..definitely one of my favorite Preem beats
Yo Mike , from one HIP-HOP disciple to another. GREAT show with DJ PREMIER that I've seen so far, to bad it was such a short one though...

During the Jay Z story. A Million and 1 Questions is on Volume 1 (1997), The Jay Z song with 2 short is actually on Volume 2 (1998). Its crazy how artists make songs and hold them for a while until the time is right.
Hearing Preem quote Angus Young basically made my year.
