Recruiting has changed vastly in both football and basketball. Not only do high school prospects start the recruiting process much earlier, but the transfer portal has greatly impacted basketball recruiting. Since Fitz launched this website in 1998, he's never experienced a news-heavy June quite like this, and it's not only fun for him but for all K-State fans.

The ‘99 team rarely gets mentioned as one our best football seasons b/c we never reached the #1 ranking and didn’t make it to the Big XII championship game due to a disastrous loss in Lincoln. But we won out, won our bowl game, and finished with just the one loss and ranked 6th, higher than ‘98, ‘03 or ‘12. That team was one of our best ever.
Does this mean we will see a resurgence of the Kstate Mask? That 2012 season was pretty special in football, basketball and baseball! EMAW! Thanks Fitz!

Yeah, that fumble in the Big 12 Championship Game ripped my heart out. We would have won the Natl Championship that year had the turnover not happened.
Love the topic! Having grown up in Manhattan and served soda at football games at age 13 in 1986 and moving on to this topic today is really special. Different problems in Manhattan for football but this team can be special if everyone buys in! Go cats!!
Totally agree on recruiting, but the Oregon story on Linkon Cure scares me. They really have his entire family sold on Oregon. Klieman can't pick up the kid like Lanning did, but he really needs to pull out all the stops to get this kid. We don't have the fancy uniforms, but we need to make up for it somehow. I would say that the last time there was a level of optimism for both football and basketball was back around 2012, in which the football team ended up winning the Big 12 title and the basketball team tied for first in the Big 12 in the regular season.
Baseball also won B-12 that year

Did the industry start ranking kids higher generally, like a full star bump? We never see 1 star recruits anymore. Are those kids 2* these days or do those rankings just get called "unranked"?
