Thanks for the memories Mr.West and Mr. Klein. I loved watching Conrad as Jim West, loved your roll in that show Red, and Elvis is my all time favorite entertainer. Bless you and yours.
I was a student in Red's acting class for several years and found him to not only be a genuine person but very humble about his Elvis experience which we students rarely brought up. Red made his own way and did not ride on the king's coat tail at all. His acting class was a great atmosphere which was welcoming, fun, energetic, and was always energy giving just like him. Many should remember also that his wife, Pat West, is also the great force behind Red. She is a class act and was there with all of the Elvis years and loved by him as well.
+Lee Mauney Did not Red West write a book against Elvis....here he rides on his coat tail................he'd be NOTHING without Elvis/and the book he wrote putting the KING down......................not impressed
Hey George.........I just bought your book and brother I can NOT lay it down........1st day and 1/2 through it. LOL Did you know: In the mid to late 1960s, I lived IN Osceola AR with my grand parents I remember seeing and hearing you on tv and radio as a kid in Memphis. I am from Memphis too, born there in 1956(What a year huh?) 1968-1969 I lived in Manns trailer park next door to the Circle G Ranch. My Horn Lake MS school Bus stopped at the gate every morning and picked up a little girl that lived there in that ranch house. We used to watch you guys ride horses out there in the field by the bridge and the white Cross! I went in the US Army and in 1980-1983 I TOO was stationed at Ray Barracks, in the 1/32 Armor Bandit battalion, the same one Elvis was in. I lived in Bad Nauhiem where Elvis lived off post too. Our dinning facility was the Sgt Presley Mess hall :) It seems I was just a few steps and several years right behind yall :) ......... small world huh? :)
G.K. is one of the finest people I know. He has kept the legacy alive for 30 years now. My hat is off to him, and there is no question about his loyalty to Elvis. Red West is a stand up guy also. These guys being fired as they were, (by Vernon,) after giving much more than they ever were paid,...was a huge slap of disrespect. I can understand West and the book. Look at The Memphis Mafia. Every one of them still like and respect Red. Every one of them loved Elvis like a brother. Anyone with knowledge of a loved one with addiction, understands the futility of trying to save someone with a death wish. God Bless each of these men. God Bless G.K. for his devotion to the memory of the greatest entertainer of the last 50 years.
You say "greatest entertainer for the last 50 years," but I would suggest Elvis is perhaps the greatest entertainer of all time. Elvis was really on the top of the entertainment food chain from the time he became famous until the day he died. The fact that he died when he did, so unexpectedly, likely raised Elvis' name even more than it was already. There was never any scandal surrounding Elvis like many entertainers today (think Michael Jackson and his high strangeness as an example). The question of how Elvis died and the pharmaceuticals only came into question once he was gone. If the Lord tarries, I believe Graceland will be visited by crowds 100 years from now.
I remember recording Wild in the Country back in 1980 (when VCRs were still a rarity). I would repeatedly rewind the part at the beginning where Elvis hit Red West over the head with a milk stool.
I Met George @The Horeshose Casino in 2005 Durring My 1st Run There That was also The Week Katrina Hit and Right After The Last Show Got The H*** Out of There!Ive been friends With George ever since, as He Said to Me Just call Me GK as Elvis Did!!! You rock George!!!
Elvis flew out to Palm Springs and had his father fire them for him. I'm a big Elvis fan, but Red was no ''yes'' man. He told Elvis what he didn't want to hear.
@@diningroomfish5470 Wrong. If you are a true friend you don't do things that will hurt them. Elvis eas going to hire them back. He loved them. They did it out of spite bc they got fired. And it killed Elvis in the end.
Red has never varied on his versions of Elvis stories, before or after Elvis' death. I'm harshly truthful, and as an Elvis fan I haven't always appreciated that. But I LOOOOVE the book "Elvis AAron Presley: Revelations From The Memphis Mafia" by Alanna Nash with he, Red, Billy Smith, Marty Lacker & Lamar Fike. They have 5 videos to go with them. If anyone cares to research it -- they pulled the "what Happened" book when he died because it lost its purpose -- to get his attention. And I 7.
the MM said that if he fired em all at once just so he could slow down and it would save him, they would have left, hands down...but they also felt obligated to stay around to be there for him to try to derail him from his med addiction.
I read that they couldn't afford to have so much staff , vernon had to let some go go. elvis told vernon pay them good and tell them he will hire them back when things improve but vernon didn't , i think elvis said that in the famously recorded phone call to sonny
Before Elvis took control if his fears of that book money matters health matters pressure of paying out all the time when there was nothing left his friends who could not trust no more all of them
George was one of them that dropped there jade at Christmas with MacDonald vouchers that Christmas way back and George did nothing big really to get a gift off Elvis ever
You know when Red and the others wrote the book about Elvis's problems I was so mad at them. I thought if you are his friend why don't you help him. Years later seeing all they went through and listening to Lisa Marie Presley on Oprah, these guys couldn't help him, nor could Lisa help Michael Jackson. They were great entertainers, but their own worst enemies. I love George,Red and the rest of the guys and glad they are doing well. I have seen Red in several movies and he is darn good.
GK, Jerry and Joe have had their noses up Priscilla's butt since she took on Graceland and have been awarded MUCH money when these other maphia guys didn't look for the hand out.
Red and his lovely wife were rejected from her and elvis’ wedding what does she have to say to that? Yea the Colonial slipped the dull surprise on him but Elvis (or Precila) could have should have noticed and saved the man the humiliation of getting shunted 😤
hollandgroupc2008 don't know but he admits to having it and cant make a deal . Like at his age he need the money. He should gift it to St Jude in Memphis in the name of Elvis. For this reason I believe he is all about money and NOT the spirit of Elvis
What all boils down to here is.....the MM were the good guys plain and simple. yes , they were there for all the perks, but they gave their all for EP. The real hangers-on were all his family and ext. family that ya never hear from (unless they need a buck every 10 years). distant cousins, neighbors, his father, were all the real, silent leeches.
Red and David and ,,,,,,those people get fired in lately time when Elvis and his father discovered their act and damage for Elvis career ,privacy life, and his name ,it's really very Rude I hate them all
I think the past 37 years speak for themselves. Red has stayed away from making his living on Elvis' coat tails. He has pretty much kept to himself. I admire him for that. He wrote a book. The book was true. I am a huge Elvis fan. But Elvis could never say he was sorry and fired his friends many many times over. That was to show 'his friends' who was in charge. The writing of that book was just as much Elvis' doing as anyone's. He fired them one too many times and they had it. And he couldn't say, "I'm sorry". That is what lead to his downfall. Regardless of the great person EP was. Everyone has faults. Elvis had as many as any of us.
Great comment! People are so quick to hate these men. They could have left many times. They did not have to try all the stuff they did to keep Elvis alive and limit his drug use. That could not have been easy. Red has admitted that he was angry (and broke) when he wrote the book. So what! He constantly confronted Elvis and Vernon and Elvis just could not handle that. I was an addict, trust me, we put our loved ones through hell! Sheila Ryan's gives an honest interview about all this stuff. All of the Memphis guys jobs mainly involved keeping their boss alive. And no, they did not make great money. Elvis was close to broke, I feel that Vernon felt the walls closing in and started trying to plug all the leaks but it was too late. I love Elvis but he was just a man who did not want help. He was a grown man, what could they do? They confronted him so many times and finally he fired some of them. Anyway, I like your honest perspective
Red and Sonny tried to save him. The money grabbers like Esposito and Fike were the ones who let him down. Obviously some of you never heard the way Fike turned on Elvis and always made derogitory comments on him.
I think the Elvis community is slowly realizing that these guys did love Elvis and tried to protect him...from himself. Elvis fired Red after many years of servitude and I can't blame Red and the others for being mad. If Elvis had faced these guys himself instead of running away and letting Vernon do it, then they might not have been so upset.i
Red was probably one of the truly loyalty men in the pack. He made a promise tp Elvis mother when she trusted Red to make sure you watch over my son Elvis. Red made true his promise this alone speaks volumes. You can see that Red is not pretentious he say's what he means and means what he say's. He was a truly loyal man period.
Why did the brothers wrote the book? Regardless of what some people are saying here. You don't bite the hand that fed you for years. It was spiteful. Also why did he record the call???? Elvis had faults. When you on outside looking in, Vernon must had noticed something not right. Also these guys were there and being paid to protect him. But Elvis can't see what they doing behind his back. They were there and took those pills with him as well. If a man is good he would never write and make money out of someone. Be humble, go find a job and make money that way. Most of them sucked the life out of Elvis. It was vindictive at first, but then once the deed was done bet you there was huge guilt there and you wondered why he became detached and kept away. They were all there enjoying the good life. Nothing lasted forever and there is always a reason for things to happen in all our lives in this world. We get sacked, we rise above it, but because of Elvis and who he was, a book was the best revenge and make money out of it.
None of you know who is Red West and what he wrote about Elvis and nearly ends his career? A scoundrel who Elvis was like a brother and he thought it would get rich by writing a nasty book about him, when Elvis was more fragile? Elvis is much more than just a singer, he is the greatest musical phenomenon that already existed. I admire a lot, George Klein, a close friend of Elvis, offer space for this bastard can talk.
I've just went down the page reading all the comments and replies and all I can say to those who are calling Red a Judas or scumbag.......... have ya'll actually sat down and listened to and read the transcript of a phone call between Red and Elvis ? It's not a short call by no means and it goes into some SERIOUS detail about what all went down, EXCEPT for Elvis taking responsibility of their firing , other than to say that "someone" was putting "bad vibes" out to EP for a year, where the MM was concerned, and that Red was only supposed " to be fired for only a little bit" ? Ya'll REALLY need to take the time to listen to this phone call and I can guarantee that if you are a sane person who will actually listen to what Elvis says out OF HIS OWN MOUTH , that you won't think near as good about Elvis, nor think as bad about Red. This isn't a made up thing, it was Elvis HIMSELF talking . No one held a gun to his head, no one "doctored" what he said and you can't argue with it unless you are just truly oblivious to reality . The call is recorded in October of 76 and it's interesting to note that this was the first time Red had ANY contact with Elvis since he had been fired, and this was also after Elvis had received portions of the manuscript before publication. That in and of itself calls into question the sincerity of Elvis's motives for saying a lot of what he talked about.... especially the very last of the conversation, then it all comes into focus. Here's the UA-cam link. ua-cam.com/video/Id9wiUrwrQQ/v-deo.html
How could anybody not like 'Red'.......I think Vernon was wrong to cuthim off with only a couple weeks severance pay..I believe to the best of his ability he really did try to take care of Elvis..Like they said though, ' You can't save a man from himself"...Elvis is to blame for his addiction........
I think that there are bigger MONEY grabbers in this story other than Red, Sonny and Dave. GK, Jerry, Joe and mostly Priscilla. Elvis was too far gone by the time the book was known about. From '72 on, he had many ups and downs.
Think you should try educating yourself about Elvis' life then you wouldn't make such stupid comments. Name me one incident that justifies you calling Red West a liar? That's ok i will wait.
I really thought that Red and the other one was fired because they were betrayers.. But if you know only so much of it, you will make a superficial opinion about it. Looking now at what has happened more, it is obvious that there was so much more to it. Like, Elvis did not treat his own wife right, and fired the others (as you can hear in interviews from Joe Esposito for example yourself) constantly, and then just had breakfast with them, forgetting he had ever said these things. Clearly Elvis did not like people not agreeing with him, like a spoiled child, like a mana’s boy. Like someone says here in the comments: he was his worst enemy himself. That is why he died young. Some are just destined to die young.
Red was with him from the start and helped protect him >the guys from the '60's like Esposito and co were the pricks and Esposito still is making money off Elvis.
I like this guy, total respect for him. I would love to sit down and talk with him one day
Always good things coming from George and Red, great guys.

Kevin Barry he done everything bad for Elvis and share him sonny west too

B Ard to believe and accept Red West has died. Red West was a force of nature and highly talented man.
