@@moviescatsmargs If we are talking about shows with lopsided seasons, also have to mention Rome and The Terror. The first seasons of those were phenomenal and then they went downhill. Probably say the same for The Walking Dead.
Ya. Season 2 got heat because it wasn’t as good as Season 1. But even so, it’s still an excellent season of television with excellent acting, particularly from Colin Farrell. There’s no way to compare anything to Season 1 though. That was pure lightning in a bottle. That said, also never fully understood why 2 was talked down so much. Even if it’s the “worst” season of true detective, it’s still better than 95% of shows out there. It’s like a dark souls game. Even the worst one is still a contender for being among the greats.
Season 2 is a pretty great Neo Noir, ya it’s not season 1 and it got a little convoluted at times but overall it’s loaded with great stuff and Ray Velcoro is an awesome character and Farrell’s performance is just stellar. If it was its own hbo miniseries it would’ve been way better received but since it was the follow up to s1 and was totally different a lot of people hated on it. Season is way better than it gets credit for and the finale is fantastic
This is without question the greatest single season of television ever produced. You’re in for a treat. I wish I could watch it for the first time again.
@3:00 "20/20" was a popular news show in the USA some years back. A lot of the stories they produced involved unsolved or unusual crimes. I think each story was twenty minutes long but I'm not positive. "True Detective - Season I" remains the best television I have ever seen - right up there with "The Wire" and "Breaking Bad." @10:45 "Anything Bartbital" refers to barbiturate drugs (valium, xanax, klonopin, seconal, etc), essentially sedatives.
Valium, Xanax, & Klonopin are technically benzodiazepines, not barbiturates, though both classes are similar as they're both sedatives that engage the brain's GABA receptors, and both have anxiolytic and anticonvulsant properties. (Sorry to be _that_ guy, but if it makes a difference, I'm not a know-it-all, just a junkie in recovery 😅)
The great thing that they pulled off in this season is that they are telling a story about a couple of deeply flawed men that reluctantly care about each other even when they both have every reason not to. I think you lump Maggie in there too. They wrap it all around an extended timeline involving a compelling crime and investigation. They feel like real people because you see them at their best and their worst. They piss you off and try to redeem themselves, and fail, and try again. They're imperfect, and deeply human.
I've seen one of your videos just now and it was you reacting to interstellar. I just wanted to say you have the best most cutest accent ever. Your voice is very soothing.
One of the greatest seasons of tv ever. As a native (first 27 years of my life there), this is the most authentic depiction of the Louisiana, outside of New Orleans area I’ve ever seen. I identify way too much with many of Cohle’s comments, it’s why I left, lol. Coyle tasting aluminum, ash…you’re response of “pollution” was dead on, lol. You’ll see throughout the series, goddamn refineries everywhere. Whole place smells like a wet fart.
The writer of True Detective, Nick Pazzolotto, took inspiration from the works of HP Lovecraft and Robert Chambers, but it's very subtle, much more subtle than most adaptations. This is a masterpiece. The original investigation takes place in the mid 1990s, while the later interrogation is happening around 2010. Rural Louisiana is one of the poorest and most inequal places in the USA. I hope you enjoy this, but be prepared, it gets really dark.
This is easily the best season of True detective. I live in the area where this takes place. Enjoy the swampy & gritty nature of the show & enjoy the Cajun accents.
They base it around lake charles but later on towards the end there is a hospital scene, they are in lafayette. The 2 citys are about 50 miles from each other.
Your videos and your way of being make my day today I had a bad day in the hospital with the treatment I can't take it anymore thanks for the videos you upload for everyone best regards from Uruguay
You know why i like your reaction vids? I dunno if you do your own editing, but in any case, person responsible for it does a bang up job. Basically every other reactor i watched avoids great scenes that could be considered "controversial" or something like a plague, afraid they could insult someone, you dont care about this shit at all. You always show a lot of footage and your thoughts about it. Plus i like your sense of humour and yeah, the fact you're smoking hot doesnt hurt either. What I'm trying to say, just stay you, you're doing a good job.👍
It's a shame that McConaughey didn't win the Emmy that year... but 2014 was one of the most stacked I've ever seen for best actor. It literally could have gone to any of the nominees that year.
He still should’ve won imo, since it was the last season of breaking bad tho they gave most the acting awards to that show. We missed out on history of an actor winning best actor academy award and Emmy in the same year. McConaughey’s performance in this is one of the best ever
Hello., BissFlix. Regarding the Seasons: Season 1 received aclaim from both critics and viewers, and rightly so. It is a great series, with a well-told story and good characters. I is absolutely worth the watch and, for my part, I am very glad to be able to watch you react to it. Season 2 is less good. It still received good reviews, but the overwhelimg sentiment was that it was not as good as Season 1. I think that the story on S1 was so well done that it created a too high standard. It would have been very difficult to get it right both times. My advice is: After season 1, do watch season 2, but be prepared to: (a) it is a completely different storyline, diferent location and has different characters. (b) I found Season 2 more confusing and not as enganging. (3) the caracters are still interestng, but the crime discribed and investigated is much more confusing. I did not watch seasons 3 and 4. So I will not comment on these.
2:50 20/20 was a news program with a format similar to 60 Minutes. I don't know if Romania has anything like it. They were 1-hour programs with news stories that lasted 15 to 20 minutes each.
I consider this one of the best seasons of TV ever made. Easily top 3 for me. So incredibly atmospheric and layered with a solidly written Southern-Gothic style mystery, painfully spotlighting the ugly underbelly of America, all held together by what I think are the best performances ever on TV that rival any Oscar nominated films. I wish I could go back and watch it again for the 1st time. I didnt dislike the 2nd season as much as others but there was no way it was going to hold up to the same brilliance as S.1. 3 hooked me a little more but had similar problems as 2. Ali's performance was great though. I am very excited for season 4, its Jodie Foster's 1st TV role. Its been in production for years and theres a lot of hype around it. I think Pizzollato is more involved this time too which is an excellent sign.
This was filmed about 20 miles or 32 kilometers from my house. We do not sound like Woody when we talk, our accents are not that bad. I forgot the episode, but he drives right in front of my duck hunting camp. This 1st season is one of the best series ever. I could not watch the other seasons, they were so bad.
Best drama series of all time for me would be The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Mad Men, ER, Narcos, Game of Thrones. For just having just one great season, gotta go with True Detective, Chernobyl, The Terror, Rome and Firefly (this one is more of a comedy though).
ok, Biss in real life Matthew and Woody are best friends They both helped to create this show and both won awards they also helped make the other 2. You should read matthews book about his life it is called Green Lights.
Lol Favorite series of all time basically a film and biss actually adds commentary without just sitting there like a moron lol ❤ this channel.. and Ruston Spencer Cohle!
Oh.. this is an exemplary excellent narrative, fair warning though: it's not *just* a crime procedural genre-wise.^^ Best regards and enjoy! Raoul G. Kunz
Glad you are reacting to this!! You will find this series fascinating. I do not recommend seasons 2 or 3 as they are completely different stories and different actors. But this season one is fantastic!
I think the other seasons are worth watching. Season 2 has a good story, but it is all over the place and occasionally has some cringe dialogue. Season 3 is good, but has pacing problems. They just aren't masterpieces like season 1.
21:40 It isn't quite right to think of it as "the Church" getting involved. There is no established official church in the US, so any influence that religious organization has is informal and exists as a consequence of the number of likely voters that are members of the particular religious organization. In Tuttle's case, he is the head of a large and wealthy Protestant (actually, "Reformed" would be more accurate) organization that contains multiple local congregations as well as things like schools. He is not a priest - at least not in the sense commonly understood in an Orthodox country. While there are many Protestant denomination have theological schools, the graduates of the Reformed denominations are not "ordained" and assigned to a parish by a bishop, but rather are often hired by the congregation of the parish in which they will serve. Their duties involve stuff like spiritual counseling, the leading of the congregation in prayer, and, most importantly, giving sermons. Reformed denominations (we call them "Evangelical Christians" in the U.S. in contradistinction to "Mainline Protestants" such as the Episcopalians or Lutherans) don't have Divine Liturgy that a person growing up in Romania might be familiar with, and rather than prioritizing stuff like the Gospel reading or the Epiclesis, the homily is the focus of the Sunday "fellowship." Thus, for Tuttle, the title "Reverend" probably means either that he is the pastor of a congregation, an important person in a "ministry," has a degree in theology, or some combination of the three. However, there is one thing that will come up (or may have already come up) in this series to be cognizant of: The word "parish" in Louisiana just means "county" - it is a secular political subdivision, not a physical church building that serves a particular defined area (although the Catholics and mainline Protestants do have parishes in this sense of the word as well). The use of the word "parish," rather than "county," is a consequence of the fact that Louisiana was first colonized by the Catholic French, and was not incorporated into the United States until 1803.
There is an old saying in movies, which is often ignored. Show, don't tell. It takes more time and talent to show rather than telling, but the final result is much better. You have to pay attention and figure things out for yourself.
First season of true detective great, one of The Best series in T.V., second season not😢 boring, third season ok, four It's coming this year witn Jodie Foster It looks nice, but first Miss Bisscute you should do a reaction for de movie: Silencie of The Lambs with her.

I’d give s3 a watch, the character work is just fantastic and the performances from Ali/dorff/McNairy are all just incredible, some of the best acting I’ve ever seen on tv is in that season.
Don't take this the wrong way, but this is a show you really need to listen and observe. People feel the need to guess everything so they feel smart when they're right, but this show is so dialogue and character driven that I've seen numerous reactors miss a lot cause they feel the need to constantly talk.
I 100% agree with Rust. I love his line, "I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in human evolution". We are the worst thing to ever happen to this planet.
You have to be quiet. Giving your usual speech every other line of dialogue isn't going to work for this show. THAT'S why you're "having trouble following it".
