Superb lesson: patient, repetitive without being boring, good pacing...and I like that you threw in the words also. That actually helps me a lot when playing something new. I just bought a banjo a month ago and I'm loving it; songs and instructional videos like yours make it even more enjoyable.

Man. This Guy is Really the Best Teacher Hands Down. I watched 10 other videos and was getting frustrated. I am 56 years old and have been playing guitar since I was 8. the Banjo is Deffinately not the Guitar. Thank You Sir. Keep Doing This Good Work.

Thank you so much!! I’m starting to learn and a lot of these beginner videos out there are too fast and straight to the point, yours was perfect it gave me time to focus on what both hands are doing and learn the actual rhythm I should play at. Superb!! I’m so happy right now! I’m able to kinda pick a tune on the banjo now! Just need to practice!! Subscribing!

As a newbie I had gave up on Cripple Creek because I could not get the rhythm in my head. I'll have to give it a try again. Learning to play the banjo at 70yo is my Covid time killer, UA-cam is my instructor.

You do an amazing job. You are obviously excellent but you can also break it down to a beginning level without seeming bored. Honestly, fantastic job! Thank you. It is very encouraging!

I really liked this tutorial and I'll say why! :)
    1. First one or two went straight into it and assumed you'd know the song, and what to aim for. You didn't.
You played an (ableit flashy! ) version of the song, giving me the idea of the song to play for, and how it could be played very well :)
    2. You also sung along a bit. That helps as well, I didn't even know the song, as I say, so that helped as I learned a bit but could then
piece together bits of the song as I learned.
I think other banjo players assume everyone knows this song - they don't. Even though I'd probably heard it once or twice but ....
People need to see the bigger picture to aim for, and also how amazing it could be sound to aim for.
That's what makes this so good, and why teaching this way is so good.
And it's at a good pace. The one I watched yesterday on clawhammer was so slow I felt like I wanted to banjo myself to death...
Easily the best video I've seen on banjo playing so far!

Hey Dave I love your version of Cripple Creek and the lessons that accompany it. I wonder have you done tutorials for Grandfather's clock or Jed Clampett?

Muito bom! A música realmente é universal.

Hi Dave - thanks for the lesson! On the tabs page of your site both the beginner and intermediate cripple creek links point to the beginner tab - so there's no way to access the intermediate tab.
