Excellent demo, Bully, as ever. It's been really rewarding to see how your channel has evolved from a focus on budget bassing to all points in between.
I used to have a 1962 model Precision which I sold in the 90s for relatively little money and have regretted it ever since. Best playing and sounding bass I have ever had, so am I interested in one of these? You bet I am, even though it's about 25 times the price of my old '62!!
Did you use the money to buy a 6-string bass by any chance? It’s hard for kids these days to understand there was a time when these Fender classics were thought to be dinosaurs. How wrong we were.
Fender's promotional materials indicate these are year-specific, rather than decade-specific like the American Originals. The bass you're playing is a 1960 P-Bass, and they're also offering a 1954 P and a 1966 Jazz.
Great review Bully. When I first saw you pull her out of the box I felt a calm feeling and then you played it. The tone is so soothing and round. I would name her Calm or Utulivu. Utulivu is calm in Swahilli.
Thank you for the video. I think part of the mystery is the sticker you read from. Maybe they but the wrong one in the box. I believe the American vintage II has the vintage 60 pickup not the vintage 63. Am I on to something?
Fun fact: they call that strap button on the back of the headstock a hootenanny button. I agree the 50% tone setting sounds best to me but be careful in a full band setting you may get lost in the mix. Better safe with the tone wide open on those situations. I wonder when Fender had the matching color headstocks? That had to be the 60s? I can see why they don't do that now when you can use the same neck for every color. Not a fan of the laquer glossy neck finish but it is good to hear it is not sticky. Can't go wrong with a good quality P-bass.
Doesn't matter how far into Extreme Metal genres i get, a good ol' Precision Bass can't be beat. It's the breakfast food of instruments, it's good all day. Also...u get it, that new guitar smell. Its a serotonin booster for sure 👍
Thank u... you have no idea how people look at me when I smell basses fresh out of the box.... this one smells like nail shop... specifically when they first apply polish...
That bass should be "Bully Blue" because you probably use it on blues style gigs and recordings. I use them for almost everything slap, tap, groove. But sometimes I gotta get the 5 string out and let the world know who the boss is.
Hey Bully, there’s something wrong with that description sticker you read. You read that it’s a 63 our vintage pickups and it’s called American original. That was the previous era. This is vintage 2 and is 1960 pickip
Nice bass. It seems the only differences between Fender Vintage II 1960 P and the prior Fender AO '60s P is some refresh of colors and change from a round lam board with a 9-1/2" R to a flat lam slab with old fashioned 7-1/4" R. Vintage purists tended to be bent out of shape over the slightly flatter fretboard radius while most players focused on the playing either don't care or prefer 9-1/2" R just a bit more. There are very small pros and cons to both depending play style and individual hands but the difference is minute. Nobody being real would pick up either and say one or the other is bad, or problem or unplayable, assuming the setups are done correct. Besides that, maybe they re-voiced the pickups, but I'm not even sure they did that. None of this is to say it isn't a very nice P bass, especially if you're someone who doesn't already have one or more P basses of this level.
I have an AO60s jazz and been wanting an AO60s P for 3 years. I bought the AV2 1960 P yesterday. Love it. Feel is not the same, and pickups do not sound the same as the AO 60s. Sounds less “scooped” than the AO 60s , a little more high mids edge I would say.
Great videos. With my ending comment I'll say I'm biased because aren't they all supposed to sound that good?! Perfection! I'm waiting on the ultra. Would love a video on that bull
Tried out a few P basses a few months ago and settled on a G&L Tribute (Indonesia). Was impressed by the 1950s Squier P, it was much better than the Mexican Fender Player P. Sire P5 also good but they didn’t do the colour I wanted (white). Anyway, question, on Bully’s bass is the pickup alnico?
That bass looks great and sound absolutely amazing. However, having to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod just kills it for me. I understand the "period correct" thing that they are going for here but quick truss rod changes without having to remove the neck is one modern improvement I really appreciate and don't want to sacrifice on the altar of vintage-ness. Just my personal opinion. Your review, Bully, is great as usual. 👍
@@BullyThaKidd this is exactly what I came here to ask. It's visible, do you have to take the pickguard off to adjust it or can you get a full screwdriver in there? That's one of my main deterrences.
I do have fat hands and short fingers… To me, being able to play on a neck with 7.25 inch radius is simply golden. It’s a shame that specification is mostly related to vintage instruments and you have to pay extra cost for such a « plus ». I mean, look at the price for a vintera spare part neck era… it’s between 350€ and 400€ in Europe :-/
You are correct-- curl your fingers around the bar and play with thumb- that's how a lot of musicians played Electric Basses at first until fingerstyle and Pick playing evolved.
It was Leo Fender's idea to put it there. He figured that's where you'd rest your fingers and play with the thumb. Leo didn't actually play guitar or bass, so he made a guess on that. But since Leo stuck it there, it stayed there a long time. You see a bunch of originals that have it moved or removed by the owner.
Yeah, by looking at it, the two inner strings seems to be wider spaced than the they are with the outside ones… I suppose the guy who strung the instrument didn’t pay attention 🤦🏻♂️
@@doziershaw9765 Sh... That's a lot. Is it worth it? And does it really have nitro lacquer on it or still polyurethane that never wears off? For over 2k I'd expect the first one.

But! No maple neck basses yet. Boo hoo
The 1954 Precision Bass has a maple fretboard...
These look super legit just wished they had a late 70's p with maple board and that they were maybe a grand less expensive lol
Great sounding Bass. I really loved the interior of that case. Especially the color. Thanks Bully.
Killer aesthetics, and the tone is smooth as silk Bully!

Definitely 60's! Second favorite PBass sound to the 1959.
Just discovered your really cool channel. You made that bass sound delicious my friend. Thanks
AHHH, that's exactly the model and color I was looking to buy.
I’m liking this new Vintage II series 👍

They forgot the B string!!!! They do the '66 jazz in seafoam green w/ matching headstock. May have to sell stuff.
So
Sounds good, I wonder why they didn't

Lucy in the sky with diamonds!
Hey Bully nice but where are they made?
Are the necks thinner than the American Original...I understand it is a 7.5 radius vs the A.O...but is it less chunky from to back
Not a four string player but this puppy sounds good!
Sounds good. love the 7.25" radius. HATE the tall frets. Nothing nicer than a real vintage fret.
That gloss on that neck eeewww
A great review. What is the color? Is that the Sonic Blue or is it Surf Green?
Daphne Blue I believe.
Have you tried out any of the Ultra basses, if so how do they compare with the vintage?
I havent got the chance to play one but i would assume they are just as highend as the vintage with an active preamp
Name her Robin; for that Robin egg blue.
