Typically how much is the tensile torque (Nm) for headset expansion when installed in to the aluminum tube fork? Thanks,,

The start nut tension in the steerer tube, I'm not familiar with. Your questions resonate with me regarding the compression plug in a carbon steerer tube. The will be installed by hand, and then a tool is used to expand it inside the tube. This tension can vary per plug maker. 2-4 nm is a general torque setting. Hope this helps. Speaking to the top cap screw, also called the preload/adjustment screw. You tighten this one to elevate play from the headset and, in turn, place gentle tension on the bearings. Achieving the perfect mix of no play in the headset and able to turn handlebars fully left to right with bind creating a buttery flow.

If you don't have the top cap how do you adjust the bolt to the right tension Is it even possible cause I lost the top cap trying to fix my bike now the forks are wobbling bearings are still good just need to tighten up the wobble any help would be much appreciated.

Try finding something similar. Like a metal washer the same size as the top cap or it doesn’t matter if it’s oversized. You just need to use it as a brace support to tighten the top cap screw. Once it’s tight and all the play is gone. Tighten the stem bolts. At that point the top cap and screw are not effectively in use.

In theory you could remove the top cap and the stem would hold the headset adjustment.

On this one bike, i cannot get a nice fit. Even with more tension on the stem cap bolt, there is always a wiggle.

Try a thin spacer just below the top cap. This will increase the space between the cap and the steerer tube.
