is it possible to use this tool to calculate how much of the PV panel area is shaded and what percentage of the pv area is in sun? and then calculate this value for each hour of the year? ideally export results to a csv file or similar. Thanks in advance, great video.
I never understood why in the US they use the month/day/year format for the date. It makes much more sense to start from the more specific and go to the more general (day/month/year) or from the more general to the more specific (year/month/day)
Hmmm...I could get on board with the second one. Don't agree with the day/month/year though - to me you need to know the month before the day. I personally don't think referencing the day first makes sense. Really doesn't matter what I think though, it is what it is :)
This was great! I'm designing a house in Colorado where the view is to the north of the house and I was stressing about whether or not the deck will be in constant shade. This was extremely helpful! Thanks.
Love your vids. Very helpful. Now let me return the favor. I am in the solar industry. Your model home has solar panels on it. Ideally, they would be pointed south. However that is seldom the case. this extension would really help the customer to understand what hours he is going to get power (sunshine) other than dead south install. Very helpful. Thank you.
Hello! Thank you for this tutorial it's really useful! I tried to export the animation and the 2D images but the sun path won't show for some reason. is there a way to export them with the sun path?
Super helpful and timely information, I just modeled my home the other day and designed an attached southfacing sunroom greenhouse on the front. I can manually enter time and dates but wanted to make animated videos for key points in the year for how sun/shadow fall on the home wall. Trying to tweak the opaque and glazed roofing for optimum shade and solar gains. This extension will likely be perfect for that
When you import a geo- location directly into the model, is the default solar north shown by curic sun correct or does it need to be manually adjusted? Thank you!
who cares ur laugh......................its unique and he is the best in this buissness.............u better mind ur own work and learn to give some respect for his work
@@chandanreddy9787 I didn't take this as an insult (though I do get a lot of those about my intro). I think he was just making a harmless comment. Thanks though :)
Thanks for the video! My curic sun toolbar has disappeared even when ticked in the tool palette section and I can't seem to get it back. Could this be because I am using SketchUp 2022?
Hi I was able to use the extension perfectly two days ago, and now when I play the test day the shadows are not appearing does someone know why?????????
I love it. Thanks a lot. I need to do the same but instead of having a house above the location image I need to make a quarry under the level of the location. Is someone knows how to do it? Can I use the same option or it will not works because I am trying to make a geometrical figure on top of the image and after that to extrude it but it doesn't work. :))
hey! I have a problem, why I can't change sun azimuth? I made all of it, what I need, geo location etc... and I know its going automahtic, but are differences between automathic sun azimuth and Solar Position Calculator...the same with sun atlitude, but this I can change parameter, its editable, sun azimuth not :(
How do you control shadows in Pro? Location is not avail. in Pro. Keeps telling me to log in, but I am logged in so I assume Pro doesn't allow location. I need to do typical office layouts and need the shadows to always be behind the furniture. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't but I can't seem to control it.
How to make time appear when making shadow analysis in sketch up animation video.for example,if we measure every hour from 9am to 4pm in an animation video, how we know this is 9am shadow ,this is 10am shadow like this
I'm going to use this so that I can build a tomb room like Raiders of the Lost Arc where the sun hits my map stick at a certain date and time to point me to the location of the gold obelisk.
FYI,as of July 2022, this extension is still available and free, but still no updates (still says compatible with 2017 -18) and there is absolutely no documentation. Also I’ve yet to figure out how to get it to stop running,,, lol. I just end end up closing out SketchUp and restarting again. Cool extension, but would be of more use if it was more user friendly.
First of all I congratulate for your channel which I find very informative and well crafted. Also happy new year. Just a question. If I'm not mistaken a little while ago you did a video on the LiveSync feature on Sketchup syncing with Lumion specifically in regards to Sun shadows and the ability to sync real time the shadows in Lumion by changing the settings of the sun on Sketchup after geolocating. I think that's what I need as I don't seem to be able to sync the two of them real time. I have Sketchup 2020 and Lumion 10. Somehow I cannot locate your video anymore where you were going through the routine about how to sync the two of them. Would you please be able to point me to that video please? Much appreciated.

Looks that you never any our questions
So when I animated it into a video the entire frame was gone, So how do I make that stay in the window?
Hi! why after I import the map, my house was gone...? and the map's scale is very small
Justin, As you asked about requests for doing an animation of the sun study - that would really good for sending clients. You have my vote ✔

@TheSketchUpEssentials Many other countries use the d-m-y format
Us Americans do what we want 😉
If you think that's worrisome, try imperial measurement standards. 17/64ths and all that.

Very sound and good teaching. Thank you
the problem is i want to export 3d and 2d but its not showing sun path
how do you remove/hide the the sun info, after you have turned it on?
This is so helpful for my final thesis ! love it thanks!
This is great - although I'd recommend orienting your house so the solar panels face the sun!

Gaming laptops like Asus

Justin, can this analysis be done in Sketchup cloud? I am using a free version of software.
No - online version doesn't support extensions
How do you animate it I have been trying to get it but it's not working
Set up your scenes with different times, then export an animation
no se ingles pero gracias por la demostración :)
nice

Sketchup got shadow but not cloud , that's pluglin is great for the position of shadow.
Clouds are usually added in a rendering program - I can't think of a reason to have clouds just for 3D modeling, that's more of a rendering function
