  • I Have Purchased a Forestwest 15ton Log Splitter BM11097. I plan on using this Log Splitter as part of my Firewood Processing set up. Its a Electric Log Splitter with a 2200 watt Electric motor. In this video i open the Box/ Pallet it came in, assemble the legs as it is the upgrade version and give it a test run with some Australian Hardwood, Easy splitting narrow-leaved peppermint (Eucalyptus radiata) and some Very hard splitting Plantation Bluegum (Eucalyptus Globulus).

I have the 26T version which has proven to be excellent - it was very rarely unable to split anything we chucked at it - with 2 caveats... The mechanism that engages the rack and pinion to 'fire' the splitter 'head' failed after about 5T of logs due to a poorly designed component which suffered metal fatigue The fix was extremely easy (using a pair of sheep castration bands, funnily enough) and has worked fine for the last 2 years (and another 40T or so of logs) until a novice operator managed to burn the motor out. So, I'm looking for a new motor now. The amount of petrol we must have saved using this rather than the old hydraulic 3-point linkage-mounted thing that we used to use... And the electricity cost is is tiny by comparison.

How is it resisting over the years ? How many cords of wood have you split with this thing before any maintenance ?

The ram appears to stop about one inch short of the tip of the splitter blade. Is there an adjustment to reduce this gap?

I went on the sight and it will only split 16 in long logs. A lot of extra wood to process because of short length

Is this just for your own needs or do you sell firewood?
