One of the best guitarists ever and yet so humble. Wonderful human. The king of improvisation...no doubt. So much to learn from Lee, apart from his music. God bless always.
Albert must be one of the most proficient and knowledgable guitarist's in the world. His history of guitar usage and the wonderful people he has guided or worked with is fantastic. Just watching this demo of his skill makes him a standout figure in guitar history. Thank you for sharing.
This man is the nicest guy in the world ,I sent him a letter telling him I needed to sell an old original Les Paul burst,,,I was trying to buy my first house.I didnt know Albert from Adam.He called me back and we spoke for about an hour ,,,turned out he didnt buy it but he directed me to someone who did,,again hes a great old school Englishman and the nicest guy in the world,,,Thank you Albert !
Not surprised at all.The nicest chap in the world.A few weeks ago,in Melbourne,Australia,my son took me to see Albert. And we were at a front table maybe 8 or 9 feet from him playing.Couldn't take my eyes off this lovely man playing like no other.I've loved him since the days of Emmylou's Hot Band and he is amazing.Modest, polite and simply a gentleman.
How right you are, this guitar god gigged in Ostend Belgium for approx. $ 20 entrance fee and took all the time after the gig to talk to the fans who stayed after the gig for a beer or something, Got a nice foto with him (a foto, not a sil;ly selfie)
I meet Albert twice now and he is like an old friend,, Wonderful guy & great talent,,, not just guitar but love his keyboard playing too ( highway man) hats off to Albert !!
Oh man - he's great. My band mate and I were in between shows in Branson, MO in '92; he was in town with the Everlys. We were behind the venue to see if he'd sign our guitars. He not only signed them, but visited with us at length. Such a warm guy. Also met Buddy Emmons out back there that night. He just gets better with time. Also met James Burton again that same year. Same thing. Spent the whole evening with us. Completely devoid of the "star" thing - Chet was the same. Unearthly talents - kind sweet people.
I've met and chatted with Albert a couple of times, he even played and signed my Tele, I even have photos of him playing it! I cannot say enough about what an absolute gentleman he is. He's just likes he comes across in this video, warm, humble, chatty and entirely without any ego.
Wow, what a sense of timing. He's like a human metronome. And his improv is second to none. He can play the same piece five times and never play it the same. A true legend.
You can see why Eric Clapton kept Albert Lee even after reshuffling his backup group several times! His work with Emmy Lou Harris, Eric Clapton and the Everly Brothers is classic. I never get tired of listening to him play or listening to his interviews. He should do more instructional videos like this. His humility and grace shine through.
+miorafeuni Back in the 90's I saw Albert DESTROY Steve Morse and Eddie Van Halen at the NAMM Show. They actually stopped playing and laughed all slack jawed as Albert tore the roof off. He stopped playing, looked at them both, and with a sly grin and shoulder shrug, he tore right back into them. Best guitar experience I have ever had.
Bryce Moore Sorry I am so late in replying I didn't realize this was on my other UA-cam account! Yes, I was there and stole the Corona bottle off the prototype 5150 head Eddie was playing through.
I love Albert Lea! His singing and his paying. He is one of the best and one of my very favorites. And he has the sweetest disposition and the most handsome face and the most angelic face!
Albert Lee is one of a kind guitar genius. I'm a bigger fan of Steve Morse's music but if I want to hear the most excellent country-style improvisation, I always go to Albert Lee. They're my two favorite guitarists. And they both seems like the nicest guys in the world.
+Steve Gould I had to laugh when he was talking about his great picking technique, he doesn't think about or think ahead, he just plays it! I'm glad he thought about it for us in this video. I can't help but be a jealous of prodigies! I love guys like Albert, who are kind enough to share their knowledge with us.
He was this good when I first saw him in London in 1971 or 72 with Heads Hands & Feet doing Country Boy - a song that also has delightfully witty lyrics. By that time Albert was already well known by many musicians in town.
Yes, I knew him very well around that time, here in London, when he was playing a black Les Paul - everything everyone has said about Albert is true - he is a real sweetie and a guv'nor geetar player - and shortly after that he went to the States and I lost touch with him - so nice to see him in these videos showing us all these amazing things - God bless you Albert !
Thank you so much for this video. As the best musicians, Albert is such simple, and generous. And he is great ! Also the way to play with the delay is just very true and precise. Effectively it sounds like Jerry Reed, for our pleasure. Jerry brought a new breath in picking style(s). It is so great to see this will continue.
I was doing that delay effect when I was a teen after hearing Brian May do that 3 delay thing. I was copying so many classic rock players. But Albert here is just monster at this country sounding stuff!
Surge you can make a squire sound like a 3k Jackson you are up ther with th he best I seen a handful of your vids you are truly a inspiration I am a recovering drug addict and have not picked up my GB uitar in tears I am doing well now ond day st a time but after watching you do I think it bv was crazy train on that squire you made me pick up my guitar again .
This man is not normal😂 know one is playing this it’s from another planet!! Seriously though, he’s incredible. Effing scaring! And a fantastic bloke to boot! He’s just amazing👌👌👌
Albert is a true guitar player in every sense. His Albums ,Speechless and Gagged But Not Bound a good place to start [essential guitar albums].Ritchie Blackmore said it right, Albert Lee beat them all back in the day.
He is on tour in the UK at the moment, I saw him last week in a small 400 seater in Monmouth Wales, absolutely awesome. He never plays any song the same way twice, it's how he feels it at the time.
I set a guitar up for him. Met him later at Summer NAMM, and couldn't hear a single word he said... I didn't care, it is Albert Lee and he shook my hand, he could have said I did the worse job ever, and I still wouldn't have cared... Albert Lee shook my hand. I never get star struck, but I was honored to meet.
This shouldn't be called a lesson. It should be called: Albert Lee - You Will Never Be as Good as Him At least thats what I took away from the video and this man's brilliant playing.
He did a clinic at a store I teach at in Redwood City Calif. I sat and talked with him. He is the absolutely nicest guy you’ve ever met. A real gentleman. And what a scary player.
I have met him twice with photos to verify and I can assure you that this guy has time for everyone and anyone. When he is not playing his guitar or piano, he is just Albert🤷♂️
i mean... Chuck Berry's Johnny be good first turned me onto guitar, when i started playing Steve Vai was my hero, then i learned of Joe Satriani, the g3 concerts, malmsteen is an epic beast! but one day i found mr Albert Lee playing country boy at one of the Eric Clapton Crossroads festivals, and my world of guitar playing changed forever, but it took several years of my playing not progressing despite playing regularly, and i realised that i never learned to play the guitar cleanly and every effect was to hide some mistake or imperfection Sure i still love blistering lightning solos with tons of gain, delay, overdrive, distortion etc, but the bottom line remains the same, if you can play as well as Albert Lee with a clean tone then you have entered the winners circle on guitar. A few years later and i am still on the outside looking into the winners circle lol and still cannot play anything by Albert Lee. I should have tried a lot harder, but some things just need to be left to the experts. My passion is kinda lost because arthritis in my joints is making life tough, but i still pick it up and play whatever i feel like playing, at this point i have given up on trying to be better, i just try to play what makes me happy, if i am happy then thats all i need. But man wouldnt it be nice to be able to stop people in their tracks with your playing?
THIS is why Albert is my favorite country player.Humble gent,Intelligent playing, yet understandable to my pea brain!🤪.NOW I know the delay setting Nuno used On Flight of the bumblebee solo.
I don't often post .BUT I have the honour ( and the pics ) of being on stage singing with him behind me playing lead guitar in 1959 when he had not long started guitar. I am going this Sunday with my wife who also has known him since 1960 to his 75th birthday party .Looking forward to it plus taking a few old black and white pics from 59 of Albert and me and his old friends.
About 20 years ago..was trying to learn this..I had the VHS..someone borrowed it and lost it..oh well tis life. I was playing around with it this morning..enjoyed the video btw. The way I am starting to relearn this..never had it perfect..but close.. I find it best to play the chords of the intro to get started..lol about 16 bars of a chord on the intro. My ear hears a little Brent Mason in this..those into licks are definitely from the G bluegrass lick .the G Lester Flat Lick. My guess is Albert Lee probably played just a little with a few bluegrass musicians. Lastly I found that using just the fingers lightly strumming at the brake neck speed..it eventually will start coming. I review this every so often.I guess I got a pick out a mess of greens.
You can sit there you whole life and woodshed Albert Lee's technique and you will still never sound like him or be in his league. He is a one of kind and the very best ever at what he does. I am really not a fan of his music but I am not aware of anyone else who can play it.
Yip remarkable 🎸 st he was clearly inspired by a lot of great American guitarists but seemed to pull a syle from there teqniques what a cool sounding great guy what a player 👍👏
Excellence + humility + grace = Albert Lee....love and respect, man

He has it all plus a beautiful human being too

Très très grand guitariste, et humble avec ça... Bref du talent à l etat brut.. Bravo monsieur Lee. Avec toute mon administration et mon respect 👍....

Exactly. I love this guy.
Saw him many years ago when he was backing Clapton, what a treat that was!
This guy is a genius on guitar and that is obvious. But what is beautiful is the absence of "star" attitude. The kind of attitude only great can have
+miorafeuni Back in the 90's I saw Albert DESTROY Steve Morse and Eddie Van Halen at the NAMM Show. They actually stopped playing and laughed all slack jawed as Albert tore the roof off. +reno145 You were there in '91???
Great story.
Bryce Moore Sorry I am so late in replying I didn't realize this was on my other UA-cam account! Yes, I was there and stole the Corona bottle off the prototype 5150 head Eddie was playing through.
The greatest ones are t-shirt and jeans, no big attitudes..all about the music, no image..
What a great guitar player and such a nice man. The world needs more like Albert Lee.
I love Albert Lea! His singing and his paying. He is one of the best and one of my very favorites. And he has the sweetest disposition and the most handsome face and the most angelic face!

Man, that guitar sounds absolutely gorgeous. One of THE most beautiful cleans in the world.
Doesn’t it ? What sweet tone
Exceptional guitar playing and exceptional humility. What a combination
Love it, peace and love!!!
My all-time guitarist . Met him once , very very nice man. ❤
If I could just learn to play the triplet double-stops on his General Lee solo I'd die a happy man. Genius!
+Steve Gould I had to laugh when he was talking about his great picking technique, he doesn't think about or think ahead, he just plays it! I'm glad he thought about it for us in this video. Jeffrey P I wish there was a 'like' multiplied by ten button for that!!
Steve Gould I LOVE THAT SONG! I love those solos so much.
He was this good when I first saw him in London in 1971 or 72 with Heads Hands & Feet doing Country Boy - a song that also has delightfully witty lyrics. By that time Albert was already well known by many musicians in town.

Going to see Albert at our local theatre on 6th June - small intimate 200 seat theatre, should be a great evening!

No estoy de acuerdo en que es infravalorado. Dentro de los guitarristas de country rock es de los más respetados, reconocidos y admirados
Albert's the man!! So under appreciated
RyuSanSama Sanchez Amongst a certain crowd, yeah. But he doesn't have the fame of Clapton or Slash.
+Jack Moulder i love him but im not sure if i would wanna hear his solos in a J-Lo song tbh.
Justus Bacon I don’t wanna hear jlo on an Albert Lee recording either.
I was doing that delay effect when I was a teen after hearing Brian May do that 3 delay thing. I was copying so many classic rock players. But Albert here is just monster at this country sounding stuff!

HE IS STILL A YOUNG GUY , IMAGINE HOW HE WILL PLAY IN TWENTY YEARS ; thanks albert
I really like this guy, he seems so unpretentious. He is also a great guitarist in his own rite.
He is on tour in the UK at the moment, I saw him last week in a small 400 seater in Monmouth Wales, absolutely awesome. He never plays any song the same way twice, it's how he feels it at the time.

The REAL genius is always humble... Albert Lee a legend of blues guitar.
So brilliant and yet so self effacing. A great guy!
Such a tasteful player. Just a humble gem of a person

I love those 'pedal steel' like bends - so expressive.
One of the greatest
This Lesson is About 3 years Worth of Practice , Fantastic Guitarist , Thanks Albert
I never met the guy but i think he,s an owesome nice guy! And of course a very good guitar player, all the best Albert!!

Brilliant musician great human!
WOW how can anyone be that good - Awesome!!!
Wow. Albert is the real king!
Simply amazing ,Just great .
you believe this !!! We are getting guitar lessons from the greatest !! It like jumping into the front of the lineup !
I love this really born to play guitar it must be in the genes ! thx
I reckon he could just look at a guitar and the chuffing thing would just start playing, amazing man truly awesome sounds .
The magic Albert Lee!!
the best are the always most modest
Thank you for showing your techniques but more importantly you such a humble player.
SO humble. Like all the true greats.
He is an Englishman at country music... haha that still amazes me
+ferlinmogot - No other country player is in his league. It is ironic that he is from the UK.
he's a city boy too, even more amazing.
Country boy from another country
Albert's response to that comment is that no one questions why so many Englishmen play the blues, so what's so odd about one playing country?
true. Chet Atkins wasn't inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by accident
i mean... what a humble talent!!
Thank you for existing Albert...
Nice guy and a guitar LEGEND!

Just discovered him. What a fucking player. Amazing.
Super psyched to see him tonight in Berkeley at the Freight & Salvage
A totally AMAZING man!
What a great artist. Such a fantastic picker almost banjo style
Just when you think you've seen everything Kool down on a guitar ,and WOW now this, Thanks Al
ya . . . .'tis pretty f**kng amazing what he does. . . . . .even Hendrix and Stevie Ray didnt do what he does . . . .and Clapton and Beck can't .
One of the greatest guitar playing legends of all time.

Cheers Albert. I hope you're happy!
Awesome guitar player.
Amazing!!

Does anybody know, what he plays at the end of this video? 6:23 ->

This should be titled Albert Lee and a bottle of water. This is a great video
what a nice guy. great player
great job!
Oh I wish I could play like Lee.
