Every video you make just demonstrates how beautiful and rich life can be when we allow people to follow their passions. Alexa has put so much time and effort into her craft and everyone benefits. She gets to do what she loves, you get a one of a kind, gorgeous garment, and we get to enjoy viewing a master at work. Thank you!
I had an uncle that worked as a presser at a high end clothing manufacturer. He once saved the owner thousands of dollars in the 60's because he pressed out a flaw in the shoulder of a suit jacket. He was an Italian immigrant and his wife also taught my mother what to look for in high end clothes and shoes. In todays world people just look for the name brands. I like the older idea of just knowing what is good workmanship.
Rajiv, This was a beautiful and amazing video. Thanks to the lovely and beautiful Alexa for demonstrating the whole process. Thank you for showing us some of the intricacies of sewing. I enjoyed the video thoroughly.
I am amazed at how much you changed when you put the mock up costume on. Mind you, it is not the finished product, yet you BECAME a man of that era. Fantastic tailoring work and transformation!
I would watch Mr. Roger’s as a kid and my favorite part of the show was when he would take you on a field trip to show you how something was made or done. I really feel like you took me to a Mr. Rogers field trip. Hope you take this as a compliment. Thank you for sharing this wonderful knowledge.
You could be a teacher. You explain things so well and make it sound interesting. This isn't something I'd typically watch, but you made it fascinating 👏
I love all of your practical skills, Rajiv. Looking forward to seeing you completing this project. My mother used to make all of my clothes when I was a child, as well as many for herself, for family, and for friends. My earliest memories are of her hand sewing, using her sewing machine, knitting, embroidering, or crocheting. If she wasn't cooking, her hands were always occupied, making clothes, curtains, and so on, even whilst watching television or reading. When I was fifteen, I realised how much I'd absorbed just by watching mum. I wanted some new curtains for my room, but couldn't find anything that I liked. I'd seen mum make curtains, so I just thought, why not? Stupidity? Arrogance? Maybe just confidence? Mum and dad were out for the day. I took myself off to a department store in town, bought a fabric that I liked, as well as all the tape, weights, and lining fabric. By the time they came home, I'd made the curtains using mum's sewing machine, as well as some hand sewing, and I'd hung them. I'd never had a lesson. I just absorbed everything that I needed to know. Mum was actually impressed, so much so that I later made curtains for her. I also made cushions, did upholstery, made fitted covers for chairs, and later on discovered the joys of embroidery. I continued for about fifty years doing this sort of work as one of my hobbies, but these days it's a bit of a struggle. I know that some have thought this to be less than manly, but I like making things. Despite my dad being a cabinet maker, I'm afraid that wood and I never got on. I preferred producing the designs for dad to make, which I think disappointed him a little. I hope that young people are inspired by your videos to try things for themselves. Producing something, anything, is very satisfying, whatever you make, whether it is a cake, an oil painting, a piece of furniture, a garden, or a Halloween costume.
Absolutely exceptional. Alexa is so knowledgeable, it’s impossible for me not to grin ear to ear watching her practice her craft and explain her process so articulately. Thanks for another fabulous episode Rajiv, can’t wait to see the fabric you’ve chosen and watch the final garment come together!
Wow, Alexa you are so talented and I love your William Morris fabric dress! This is such a wonderful project, looks great and the grand finale will be a blessing to watch. I would tweak this period costume with a secret embroidery inside attribution to your mom’s initials. She would be your first dance partner celebrating your incredible idea🎉 Wonderful how she introduced you on to the art of sewing Rajiv!
As a person who barely passed sewing class in school, and struggled to thread a machine, this video was just 🤯 Didn’t know how complicated and sophisticated sewing can be. Your costume is going to be AWESOME!
I just had a giggle reading your comment! It reminded me of the sad pitiful little apron I tried to make for home ec class and how it was just a complete disaster lol If only I had watched Rajiv's apron tutorial then! Dressmaking and tailoring is a complete art form in my mind! So impressed with their knowledge and craft.
This appears to be WAY more than a halloween costume! I never did well in compulsory Home Ec. when I was a kid, I'm not interested in costumes or Halloween, and sewing machines just plain old scare me. But of course I have to check out Rajiv's newest video and of course its so fascinating to see Alexa who's at the top of her game -- clearly a genius -- who can somehow craft the 3 dimensional world of fabric in a way that completely astounds me. Rajiv, you look super handsome in that costume, man!
I make historical costumes as a hobby, so this was very entertaining for me. I was schooled at the Fashion Academy in Amsterdam in the 1990’s. Fashion History was my favourite subject. It brought back fun memories to see you guys doing this. I’m looking forward to the next episode. ❤
Rajiv actually putting his hands on the fabric and SHOWING the warp/weave/bias stretch or none is VERY helpful ! I knew this, mentally, but seeing it visually really cements it in !
Alexa is amazingly talented !! What a Joy to make historical garments and know what you are doing. She must be a perfectionist to do this level of work. How she got into this line of work is interesting
Rajiv, this is off topic. I just saw your Ted Talk at U of T from 6 years ago. All I have to say is good on you. An excellent example of honing your craft, doing your best and if that doesn’t get you where you want, revisit the plan and try again. I always have said that no one can take away your skills, they give you a future. What that future may look like is up to fate. However, prepare yourself for the worst ( save your money) and hope for the best. I envy your skill sets and love how you have made them work for you. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is such a cool process to witness and you look awesome in that toile! I am really impatient to see the final look, but I also love that you've broken it up into TBD/14 parts - it really underscores just how involved and masterful some of these garments were. So unlike our instant gratification, "short form content" mindset today, where you only see a 10-second clip of something that took months to accomplish. Alexa is so talented!! I knew I liked her the second she showed up in head-to-toe Pimpernel 😄
WOW !!!! Beautiful. She does amazing sewing. She is so young. I know she is going to make so many beautiful things in her life. What a talent. Thank you both.
Love this video as all others. I love Alexa’s dress she is so gorgeous and her creativity. Anyone you connect has so much talent. You are always attracting those who have same interest. ❤️
This was so much fun to watch. We’re so used to seeing Rajiv share his expertise in his art it’s nice to see his learning process. It makes learning look less intimidating ❤
What a great and in-depth conversation between two people who love beauty and understand the importance of hard and careful work. These videos are a real treat for the eye, ear, and mind!
love learning this stuff this way, way more memorable with all the nerdy "whys" of thing,s and with such a beautiful, unique, fun example of how the techniques are being used
Fascinating hearing Alexa explain all that goes into tailoring truly an art. You look great in the prototype I can't wait to see the finished project, Sir Rajiv I'm positive you will look 'dashing'.
The look on Rajiv's Face. The elegant man with gravitas, time travelling!. I can't imagine how much this costume would actually cost when finished. Alexa is s gem. I am so glad to see someone still practicing the real skills of tailoring. Thank you for the adventure to the 1600's Rajiv. Cheers Muffy from Oz.
Wonderful!! The importance of pressing as one sews can never be overemphasized. I sewed most of my clothing while living at home as a young girl on my mother's featherweight portable Singer sewing machine. It seemed every weekend I spent creating new garments funded by babysitting jobs. It is a valuable skill to have. Enjoyed the demonstration of the 'ham'. I was relegated to using the front of the ironing board. Thanks Rajiv your costume will be a showstopper!!!
Way too many sewing videos on UA-cam demonstrate fast fashion techniques where seams aren't pinned or pressed or backtacked, everything is slapped together without regard for the grain line, then when it's finished it's forced into shape with a hot steam iron. It looks ok initially, but will lose its shape, won't survive being washed, and will start coming apart very quickly. To see true craftsmanship like this is truly a treat.
I absolutely love how you nerd out together. It's going to be a beautiful costume. Alexa, I love your dress - The fabric, design and band detail. The trench coat hanging behind you is gorgeous as well. Can't wait to see the finished product!
Enlightening and fascinating! Alexa is so young but so skilled!!! Thank you Rajiv! I think it will not take fourteen parts to seeing the finished costume.
This is the most enjoyable time I’ve spent on UA-cam in a long while. Almost like ASMR in activity but absolutely charming in education. You both are a treat to behold.
Thank you for the explanation of the difference between warp, weft, and bias cut - I always wondered about what the difference would be, especially when I would hear that a particular evening gown was "bias cut". It means it's stretchy, I suppose.
I love the style and the vibe of this prototype. To me its unfinished and blank state feels quiet arty. :) Also I love the atmosphere of handcrafting, playfulness ( like, why otherwise should someone want such a costume...), the calm and sorted connection socially, knowledge of the history of clothing and skills of handcrafting and body. For a moment I can go deep inside of an unknown matter and your surrender of creating something. Love to watch that. So thanks for this work of you all!! :) Love out!
This was brilliant, Rajiv and Alexa! It was so good to see and hear all the tailoring tips. My mum was a tailor and, while she taught me the basics of sewing, like how to hem and sew a button on, I really wish I had pressed her to teach me how to create patterns and toiles et al, to make my own clothes. It's true what they say: you don't know what you've got till it's gone.
Alexa really has a refined eye for the minute details. You are very lucky to have her shaping the pattern. The suit looks perfect at first glance, but those minute details she adjusted takes it from a very nice costume piece to a really good reproduction of the real Stuart era garment ensemble. Magnifique!
Love the posture and attitude you assume wearing this incredible outfit. There is also something very charming about the simplicity of the toile, which streamlines the look and lets the lines of the suit speak for themselves. But I can't wait to see the finished product. You and Alexa are quite the team!
Hi Rajiv and Alexa, Just a wonderful insite of a forgotten era epitomizing the creation of exquisite beauty. So far I count two layers of garments, could you tell me how many totals are there. How warm would you feel? Adding normal movements, then maybe dancing, eating, etc. how does the body cope with the temperate fluctuations? I'm sure this is a masterpiece created before our very eyes. Thank you and I can not wait to see Part IV. 👀🪡🧵
Rajiv, you are a blast! Love how you find so many talented people and give them exposure. Alexa is beyond amazing. Btw, you are such a diva. Can’t wait for the next episode. Thank you.

Looking at the video thumbnail, I thought the costume was going to be sort of Prince Ali Ababwa from Aladdin and I thought wow that's going to be so cute. This is even better! Thank you for the video. I love love love seeing all the process. Can't wait to see the finished costume!!
That was really interesting (as are all your videos, Rajiv)! I have learned so much from your videos. Your Halloween costume is going to be amazing. Alexa is really good at what she does - I think it's a great idea to have her cut your fabric! I look forward to seeing you decked out in the final garment!
Rajiv, you look beautiful in that costume and the work is so well done...I have made costumes like this, and I always put side seam pockets on the breeches which makes it easy to carry a phone and a wallet and keys and the pocket is totally invisible since it is hidden in the side seam. Great video! 👍
The shaping details of clothing has been lost to a sea of blandness, to our own chagrin, due to our modern desire for simplicity and convenience, and I know that I am not alone in my longing for some of it to return to favor! There were so many periods throughout history when clothing held such interest, so why do we only reserve them for special forms of entertainment or costume parties, but seldom utilize them for our own, everyday enjoyment? I am sure there are ways of incorporating more detail without sacrificing on convenience. What a delightful and informative video, Rajiv!
Rajiv, love your videos. Could you do one on maintaining and potting indoor plants. Like how to pot them, trim them, fertilizer, sun/shade ratios and tools so that we can see the important things to do and remember. Thank you!
Interesting! That looks made better than the finished products in a store. I have vague memories of all this from school but my memories of that are covered with dust. Very exciting!
Will costume be ready by this Halloween? And, are you going to a Halloween event, so you can wear it? Alexa is talented and wonderful! As are you! Enjoyed this video..
The craftsman/womanship in this is amazing- it is art at it's finest! Rajiv, and Alexa, you are such an inspiration in how beautiful life can be when we focus on the details that may seem small, but work and meld together to form an amazing tapestry of experience, beauty and for me, serenity! Great start to myday to watch Rajiv, who lives life itself as art. Going to go paint my masterpiece now, and maybe write a bit of poetry in between
Every video you make just demonstrates how beautiful and rich life can be when we allow people to follow their passions. Alexa has put so much time and effort into her craft and everyone benefits. I have to agree
Good googa mooga...thats elaborate. SUCH A TALENT

I think Josh Kiszka would like to wear that on stage.
Too elegant for a Halloween costume. It should be worn daily. You can bike around NYC with it. Lol!
I was thinking the same thing...it's going to be too beautiful to only wear once a year.
Or at the CARNEVALE DI VENEZIA!!!! PERFECT
@@rajivsurendra New Years and special dinners and sometimes just because it suits the day.
@@rajivsurendra, You're in NYC. You can wear it to Broadway shows and music performances. Its like a medieval fair every day😂
Rajiv, This was a beautiful and amazing video. Thanks to the lovely and beautiful Alexa for demonstrating the whole process. Thank you for showing us some of the intricacies of sewing. I enjoyed the video thoroughly.
Alexa is so skilled. Can’t wait to see the final product.

That was my very favorite part of Mr. Rogers as well!
My hat’s off to Alexa. What a skilled, knowledgeable and pjeasant lady. And she couldn’t have a better model❤. You look great on it Rajiv
Perhaps you can suggest a proper hat for Rajiv?
You could be a teacher. You explain things so well and make it sound interesting. This isn't something I'd typically watch, but you made it fascinating 👏
Alexa's dress❤❤❤
Yes....and she's also beautiful.
I agree, I just love that dress so much, I have the fabric but not the talent to create one for myself.
I love all of your practical skills, Rajiv. Looking forward to seeing you completing this project.

I was thinking the same thing!

True to the old adage 'Birds of a feather flock together' 🐦🐦.
What a beautiful artistic video. Such a crafted skill.
This is so educational and entertaining! How wonderful that she can spend her talents on what she loves! You, too!

This is so amazing and I am excited to see what the costume looks like when finished. But Rajiv has taught me to enjoy the journey also so I can wait.
When two talented people meet, magic is created. Another wholesome video by Rajiv.

That turned out amazing! Also I love Alexa's style, such cool hair and dresses
Your videos are so enriching! I always come away feeling my time has been very well spent. Really enjoyable. Thank you so much.
This is the most enjoyable time I’ve spent on UA-cam in a long while.

And conforms to the body, like simple silk gowns in films of the thirties.
So fun! Love the crew socks. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Goodness beautiful, cannot wait to see the actual fabrics! She's so talented.

Outstanding work, Alexa. And, Rajiv, you looked awesome in the mock up. Quite the Tudor gentleman.
Your videos have saved me. Thank you for your calming and wonderful personality.
What an excellent episode! I love the project and both your personalities and interactions are such a pleasure to watch
I love the outfit Alexa wore today. Your costume's toile is stunning, and I look forward to seeing it in the real fabric!
absolutely gorgeous! Alexa does a phenomenal job!
Do we ever get to see the finished product? This looks stunning so far
This was brilliant, Rajiv and Alexa! It was so good to see and hear all the tailoring tips. Dear Rajiv, another amazing, interesting and educational video, thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
Alexa is enchanting and radiates light and goodness. Her talent is an extension of these qualities.
The alteration process of the toile' is a true piece of artisanship.
So much talent in this beautiful young lady.
Rajiv, you are a blast! Love how you find so many talented people and give them exposure. Alexa is beyond amazing. Btw, you are such a diva. Can’t wait for the next episode. Thank you.
I have a newfound respect for excellent, passionate tailors! Kudos
Alexa did an amazing job 👏 I learned so much🎉
Her skills blow me away.
I can’t wait to see the finished item !!
Wow! Alexa is so skilled it's really impressive!
This is so much fun! Rajiv expands my world again! Thank you for introducing us to Alexa. This is such a special treat!
That was really interesting. And you and Alexa were both so lovely and engaging in this video. I'm sure the costume will be stunning! 😍
Love all the video’s, waiting for the next installment of this series. 😊
talent abounds between these two!
A joy to watch a master tailor at work. Thank you Rajiv and Alexa.
I enjoy every single video you take the time to show. You are amazingly talented.
Everything you do is a labor of love.
As we say down south, "you put your foot in it"!
Exquisite!
What a lovely, knowledgeable duo. I'm so glad I found you.
Alexa is SO talented! Love to see their process! 💖💖💖
Was hoping for a follow-up video showing your Halloween candy haul.
Amazing skill. Thank both of you!!!
I look forward to seeing you decked out in the final garment!
love this!! could be an asmr serie
How fabulous and I love Alexa's funky boots and William Morris fabric Dress !!!
You are the Mister Roger’s of UA-cam. Thank you, Thank you. Truly.
Another hit Rajiv. So interesting and detailed!
Your videos so sweet and approachable. We share so many interests but you have taken the knowledge so much deeper
I love you, Rajiv. You're a bright light in this world!
Alexa is an awesome tailor and your costume will be too! Thanks Rajiv!
I'd 100% subscribe if Alexa had a youtube channel... this was great!
Rajiv, you look beautiful in that costume and the work is so well done...I have made costumes like this, and I always put side seam pockets on the breeches which makes it easy to carry a phone and a wallet and keys and the pocket is totally invisible since it is hidden in the side seam. Great video! 👍
I want to so badly see how this ends!! Is there a final look of the costume?
You inspire so much, even here in Brittany France, I even tried marbling thanks to you, covered my four Plato books. Cheers🎉
The shaping details of clothing has been lost to a sea of blandness, to our own chagrin, due to our modern desire for simplicity and convenience, and I know that I am not alone in my longing for some of it to return to favor! Totally forgot about this Project! CANNOT wait to see the final Version! You look adorable in it already! HAPPY HALLOWE'EN from Canada🍂🎃🍁
as always, WONDERFUL! thank you for bringing us along
oh Rajiv- you are so handsome, and this looks so royal on you! can't wait to see the finished product.
Rajiv, love your videos. Could you do one on maintaining and potting indoor plants. Like how to pot them, trim them, fertilizer, sun/shade ratios and tools so that we can see the important things to do and remember. Thank you!
Oh, Rajiv, this was wonderful!!!!
I like the legs shorter too, this lady knows her business, Rajiv you’re so lucky to have a couture Halloween costume.
Going to go paint my masterpiece now, and maybe write a bit of poetry in between
not too mention, ya'll are both so hot so it's easy on the eyes too ;P
wow she is so amazing...so much knowledge for such a young age...your costume will be magnificient!
