why is it called mafool bihi? what is the function of bi? Does it refer to verb (fe'l) or object? Why not mafool alayhi? Is it just an agreement among grammarians?
Assalamu alaikum brother Asgar Below is the definition of Mafool bihi as mentioned in the Classical Arabic Grammar Book *"Ajurrumiyyah"*: ------------------------------------ هو الاسم المنصوب الذي يقع به الفعل It is a Mansoob (Accusative) Noun upon which the action occurs. ----------------------------------- *Bi* in mafool bihi refers to the object. This *Bihi* has been explained as *'alayhi* by Shaykh Uthaymeen in his explanation of the above book pg 367: ما يقع *عليه* فعل الفاعل فهو مفعول به The noun upon which the action of the doer occurs is known as Maf'ool bihi ------------------------------------- You are correct.....Usage of *bihi* is an agreement among grammarians
@@awaish152 وعليكم السلام brother. I had a look at Hidayatun Nahw for the definition. It matches the one in Ajurumiyyah. I was looking for consistency among mafool fihi and mafool bihi, mafool li ajlihi etc. Clearly "وقعع على مفعول في فلان مكان أو زمان" makes sense where bi can also be used. I am thinking in English and so I will go along with the assumption that the term mafool bihi is an agreement among grammarians. Thank you for the reply
Explained very well.
