    I saw this line up a month before in May 69 at the Bath Blues Festival . I watched Jons drum solo with awe . I bought Valentine Suite and another later album Both gems, On the same bill at Bath in 69 was Fleetwood Mac and Led Zep. I remember Mick Fleetwoods drum solo for all the wrong reasons. Zeppelin were sensational.

    You're looking at one of the great drummers of all time. I saw this group in '70, and I remember how easy Hiseman made his solos look, and I'd seen both Baker and Mitchell before, and I thought he was better than either, as great as the other two were.

    Saw Collosseum on theier FIRST concert after over 20 years at Freiburg ZMF, man, it was like being in a film, all the stuff we heard drifting in space when kids, they were great and found the spirit after a while. Tent was cooking... Valentine Suite as such great parts in it

    an amazing workout here! colosseum have always been a band including some of the very best musicians,....colosseum 2 took it one stage further, but their early stuff is quite incredible too! this is mr. greenslade"s piece to a large degree......stupendous!

      @@Mynamesalexa I have never seen Ginger Baker live but I have seen Jon Hiseman twice (in 2000 and in 2004) and he was incredible. The only drummer that I have ever seen in concert that left a similar impression was Billy Cobham.

    Saw this band at an all-niter at The Lyceum back in the day. Quite something. 10 minutes into his drum solo I realized he'd yet to use his sticks. Up to that point it had all been feet! Hiseman was a proper musician and an astonishing drummer!

      Yes me too, and went to Mothers in Erdington (Brum) a few times to see them too. Saw so many bands at the Lyceum- East of Eden, King Crimson, Savoy Brown, Ten Years After, Jethro Tull......

    A bit unfair on todays musik using Fustin Bieber for comparison. I mean, in 1969 you could also listen to Donny Osmond.. every era has it's great music and its crap music.

    @theachtungtree - it's hard to say - as I said - I love both bands - I think the most consistent is Colosseum because Purple did have a lot of fillers on their albums as well as classics - whereas Colosseum didn't do fillers - plus I was the one that bought the Colosseum records when I was a kid - and my older brother bought the Purple ones - I played both sides of the Walking in the park single to death when I was a kid - all the best.
