    This is one reason I won't invest into one fund( for the same category) I had my money in Templeton Debt which was frozen. My money to put in the market was stuck in COVID..as I had to keep money for the emergency.. fund..

    I think we should make a distinction between debt and equity mutual funds. Franklin templeton case was a debt fund - so the underlying assets were not so liquid plus they had some bond defaults. Equity mutual funds on the other hand dont have this problem. Sure under redemption pressure there could be a loss but there is less risk of the entire capital gets stuck or getting completely wiped out .

    Market risk is different from fraud risk in a specific AMC. Don’t confuse the two.

    • @pattufreefincal
      @pattufreefincal  Місяць тому +2

      You fail to understand my point: Market risk cannot be turned off because of fraud so we wont "get our money back" in the traditional sense.

    Thanks for elucidating this point many people are lured into thinking that amfi or sebi will at least return their invested corpus. Firstly if you redeem even ur original corpus you need to pay exit load and also one can completely loaw their invested corpus.

    IMHO, fund investors should consider a few hygiene markers while investing
    1. Invest in funds which do not change fund managers often.
    2. Invest in funds which do not have a very diverse portfolio (goes against hedging logic...but this helps track the fund better)
    3. Invest in funds which have, historically, returned at least on par with the index
    4. Invest in funds whose AUM is not bloated (you'll have to figure out how to identify that)
    5. Invest in funds which have been consistent with returns over a 7-10 year period.

    • @pattufreefincal
      @pattufreefincal  Місяць тому

      1 fund manager will change after we inevst
      3 AUM will grow after we invest
      rest at some level subjective

    If AMC defaults or goes on loss..& closes the company what will ...will SEBI do ?

    • @pattufreefincal
      @pattufreefincal  Місяць тому

      AMC cannot default because they are not borrowing money from us. If they lose money, they will sell the business to someone else as has happened many times

    Pardon me if this is a basic question - does market risk include potential fraud by the fund house?
    I can understand redemption risk and risks in the case of a market downturn. But does the regulator protect us in case of fraud? Suppose that the fund house launders the money instead of investing it, am I protected?

    • @pattufreefincal
      @pattufreefincal  Місяць тому +5

      They cannot launder the money as MFs are trusts. Those basic risks are taken care of. But one can't include all possible frauds. As the saying goes, it is not a risk if you can expect it! So, the regulator cannot protect investors against any unexpected risks. They will learn from it and make new laws.
