I love your funky dance moves, your drone slam and your compassion for yourself and others. Ned is a treasure..love him too!! The cake cabin was great and I will be careful with food sounds! It’s felt like a warm hug. You are sooo talented…seriously. You’re an inspiration and a comfort to this knitter who doesn’t have a local yarn shop..45-60 min away..I enjoy knitting and having a cuppa with you! Oh..I love cats but am a pet free zone right now so I enjoy living in yours! I had a small farm when my kids were small..sheep, cow, rabbits, chickens, barn cats and our orange cat Ollie was my favorite. A purrrrr mobile! Love you! Brenda..I’m in golden colorado.
I recently spent 2 weeks in Sweden and Denmark. I packed more knitting than I needed but I prefer to be prepared! I find deciding what to bring for travel knitting to be the most stressful part of packing. 🤣Have a wonderful trip!
"Tape measures. Kind of obsessive BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. Totally fine." hahahaha I love the way you put it. Thank you so much Mark! Have a wonderful trip. We are all totally obsessive about crafting, and loving it! Here's another one. The little blue scissors..."I just need them for my life". 😆I like the way you carefully planned each project with its accessories. I can relate to even considering where in the project you want to be when you start your trip. Like not casting on on the plane! Already read the instructions, etc. You are just awesome, and you never fail to make me smile. Or crack me up.
So glad I’m up for this! Can’t wait to see how you pack everything! Hand Balm Mark! I take this with me everywhere! Tuft makes great little containers in many different scents! When I started using 100 Rustic yarn this yarn balm was a lifesaver! Have a wonderful trip!
I came across your channel a few weeks ago. Love your calm voice and how you explain techniques and show your works /wip's I have/had a "travel" project that I always took on my train rides when I visited my family.. but because I travel more in winter I had it on pause for so long that I just started doing it at home so I can finally finish it. 😅 Love the idea of "sentimental" attachment of the project to the travel. And souvenir yarn for future projects. For yours is kind of see a "scrap yarn" pullover that has Scottish yarn on top..and then add more yarn from more southern areas (don't know it only scottland or other areas) (because it would be sad if you did not get enough yarn for a specific project ) Anyway I am thinking of maybe join the knit along. We will see. Have fun. And have a nice honeymoon with your husband 💜
I bought a great pair of small, foldable scissors in London, England 10 years ago. Also, for my darning needles a salesperson gave me a small tube like container with a screw top lid so I put all the needles in there. Very compact. Really, enjoying your channel. I always learn something new.
Oh Mark Iv always thought what a gentle voice you have so I’m not surprised that you sing. I would love to hear your singing some time, that would be wonderful. As you are coming here to the UK it would be great if you could get down to Totnes here in South Devon , it’s a beautiful place in the river Dart filled with happy friendly people I’m so lucky to live amongst. The small town has lots of history and lovely old buildings I’m sure you would like. Have a wonderful 6 weeks and can’t wait for your trip podcast. Anix 🍓🍓🍓
Great Video. Like the ideas you shared about packing. Somehow, packing my knitting is the most challenging. I ordered the seagull fabric to make a bag. Love you are taking the challenging christmas stocking. Both my vehicles have knitting and notions. You never know where you will be stuck. I LOVE Chiagoo interchangeable needles. I worked on a shawl on my flight and brought needles that could be thrown away; it was a fingering weight shawl. Love your color card. I use ravely to keep track of my yarn in a project. I know I would take a picture of your color card idea and put that in there as well. I can't wait to hear about your videos of the UK.
This video gave me a lot of anxiety 😂 packing for a trip soooo stressful. My husband never helps because his help makes me even more anxious. I have to pack for 4 people, me, him, and 2 kids. Plus, a dog. Our trip this summer got cancelled, we all are very sad about it, but now at least I can enjoy my anxiety free summer here at home 😂 Just so you understand how stressful packing is for me, I started to plan and pack my summer trip knitting projects in January 🤕🤯 by march I had like 12+ WIP's and keep going. In April I realised I am crazy and by now most of them are finished 😂. So no, as I am still really, really sad we are not going on a trip, I am still happy I don't need to pack anymore and can slowly finish the rest of my WIP's 😂 Have a wonderful honeymoon trip. I am looking forward to all the videos you may share with us ❤
I have found that I love to buy notions on trips, that way I get to be reminded all the time, when I use the notions of the trip. I bought sock blockers at Cannon Beach, OR. I bought my only Addi circular needles for sock projects (I'm a die hard size 0, 64 stitch, two at a time, toe up, heel flap and gusset sock knitter) in Issaquah, WA. I bought a lot of by the kilo plutloppi in Iceland and use the re-usable shopping bag as a big project bag for sweater projectsd...
Hi Mark, hope you have a great flight over to this side of the world. I’m afraid our weather at the moment is not a lot to write home about but maybe you can bring some sunshine with you ☀️☀️☀️. I love watching you podcast and is so nice to think that you are going to be in the UK. I live right down on the South East coast in Hastings. An awful long way from Edinburgh but it is very beautiful up there. Enjoy. Sending love and best wishes Julie 🥰🥰🥰
Julie, do you watch, Not Quite Enough Yarn Podcast? She lives in the Hastings area. I just visited her this spring. We took a lovely train ride from London and had a wonderful day.
Hm. Very interesting - I almost always learn something from you! This time round it was the flexible cable needle. I can see that being very handy indeed. Must look into this! Ooooh. And the magnetic board and ruler to keep your place. Genius! I always take little sticky post its to do that. A magnet ruler would be more efficient….. Love your self-made color card! Those are gorgeous colors. I would love to consider the KAL. Usually my own plans take precedence… but who knows? I hope you had a safe flight and are having a lovely time!!
I have the coolest tool, it's half knitting needle/half crochet hook (each end)..its immensely helpful!!! It was gifted to me, so I have no clue where my BFF found it. Have a great trip.
I have a little tool to help fix mistakes that sounds like what you are describing. It’s the Susan Bates HandiTool. I love it and it is an indispensable part of my tool kit.
I am pretty sure you won't confuse your stocking green yarn with your sweater green yarn. (I would separate them with an even smaller bag). Have a WONDERFUL time. Knit happy, see things, experience things and make lasting memories!!! ~A
Great video Mark ❤️ felt like I was coming with you on your trip , and I loooove the Christmas stocking pattern. Lately I have been hankering for autumn/fall knitting and think I will start on my gift knitting soon, currently just finished a summer weight striped Henley sweater and am now onto second sock of my first sock project of this year and it’s so nice to be knitting with wool again! Am going to Yarndale in Skipton, West Yorkshire at the end of September, it’s by far the best yarn show in the UK as far as I am concerned, spent a small fortune there last year! Going to be shopping for a fairisle sweater, but am yet to decide on a pattern. Really looking forward to the knit along, going to be such fun❤️. Again, wishing you and Ned safe and smooth travels, so wish I could find a way to get to meet you during your trip, you are such a beautiful soul and would be an absolute pleasure to meet Ned too. I am in Brecon for a week in the middle of September so will be doing some souvenir yarn hunting there too, really looking forward to it. Take care and much love as always, Pippa xxx
Really interesting video. I will employ your needle tip storage method when I fly to Italy in September. To be honest I've never had a problem with security in UK, Scandinavia or most of Europe, maybe because knitting is pretty common here. I am very excited about the Seaglass KAL. Weather update: warm and sunny on the Isle of Man. Have a wonderful trip!
Mark have a great trip! I'm very envious. I lived in the UK several years but never was able to do the site seeing I would have liked as I was too busy working. I think you are going to run out of projects while you are over there because you are such a fast knitter. I think you need to add something else. Best of luck to you & your husband in the competitions!
Hey Mark! I also travel a bit for work and never thought I would meet another "knitting prepper" as thorough as me when I plan my knitting for going out of town! Can't think of anything you aren't taking you could possibly need - you've thought of everything. Thanks for the great vids and have a wonderful trip. Knit in good health. xx, @Profesor Purl
I hope you didn't forget to pack your raincoat, the weather here in the UK has been very changeable and some days quite cold. Hope you have a lovely time here.
Have wonderful time on your trip! I know it's not on your itinerary but, if you have a chance, Oxford is a beautiful town. There's only a couple of yarn stores but my daughter lives there and loves it.
John Arbon textiles in South Molton in Devon is definitely worth a visit if you're anyway near there. You can book a tour of the mill, where they use many old machines for making yarn and the yarns are fabulous.
Great show Mark-especially the info about barber cord fitting on needles! (Yes I’ve been using them like spaghetti). Anxious for the adventure now. Safe travels!
I’m seeing Megan’s sea glass sweater colors and am taking back my IG comment about the color choices. They are actually much more delightful than I originally thought. It’s all about the lighting, I think. Or maybe I’m bad at judging colors. Let’s just say I’m bad at choosing colors. Regardless, I’ll look forward to watching the completion of Megan’s sweater, and seeing how she styles it! As for the packing, yikes! I don’t think I’ve ever used half of the items you are taking…just in case. With all of that prep you shouldn’t need anything… have fun!
I have tried using that barber cord and without fail it always pops off my needle and I drop stitches. I found that for the purpose of trying on a pullover I’m making, it’s easier to remove a needle from my cable, add a cable extender and then another cable. You can then put stoppers on the end if you want but if the cable is long enough, it might not be necessary. It takes me just a few minutes to get it ready to try on/get back to knitting where as putting it on the barber cord or waste yarn takes me much much longer.
I love your funky dance moves, your drone slam and your compassion for yourself and others. Ned is a treasure..love him too!! The cake cabin was great and I will be careful with food sounds! Happy travels! I hope you enjoy the whole experience, especially your honeymoon and knitting!
I have the same must-haves as you do. :-) Today I am working on cap/scarf sets for a children's home. Hope you are having a wonderful trip!
I wish you and your husband a joyous honeymoon!

I hope you have the most wonderful trip :) it looks like summer is only just starting here in the UK so great timing.

The color card is a great idea!
Good luck 🤞
I take a empty dentalfloss case with me on a flight to cut the yarn instead of siccors 😂 works like a charm
Fabulous idea!

I always bring a pencil…mechanical with extra leads
My random must have I never see on anyone else's list... A nail file! There's nothing worse than trying to knit when you have a scraggly split nail.
And some hand lotion
I have tried using that barber cord and without fail it always pops off my needle and I drop stitches. I found that for the purpose of trying on a pullover I’m making, it’s easier to remove a needle from my cable, add a cable extender and then another cable. You need to save room for souvenir, Yarn! Don’t sweat the small stuff!
Nail file and lip balm
Just a tiny reminder: Mark is going to be away for 54 days = nearly 8 weeks, not 6! Happy crafting everyone!
What about a small book and pen 😊
Best wishes to you and your husband. Prayers for a safe, memorable honeymoon trip.
Have a wonderful trip 😊
