Omg today Oda revealed Zoro's family!! We have confirmation that Zoro has Shimotsuki in him! Zoro is related to the Sword God Ryuma as well ash Shimotsuki Ushimaru!! The Zoro Wano theory is no longer a theory and has been confirmed in Volume 105 SBS!! We also learn that Tama is in fact a Kurozumi just like Orochi and we also learn that Ebisu Town in Wano has not been cured by Chopper so they still have SMILE devil fruit side affects! Terra = Earth in Latin and is also a reference to a Roman Goddess
I went with "Heaven" because everyone in Zoro's family has names that are based in Japanese.
Plus the context of his mom being "Heaven" and Zoro being "The King of Hell" makes more sense.
It COULD 100% be swapped for Terra if Oda wanted to or even a reference but imo Heaven is more on the money.

I think it is more related to a dice roll, since every single name in Zoro's family line is related to gambling.

In case you dont understand, law's backstory is to thoroughly emphasize that not all tenryubito are evil, they can change and the D clan & it's natural enemy, tenryubito, can love each other. Sanji's backstory is closely related to a yonko arc. Zoro's backstory not sad at all and has no impact on the plot. Kid is just a regular side character.
Its worse for Zoro since he is a main character that has been around since like chapter 2 lol Kidd got introduced in Sabody and didn't start getting focus on him until Wano
Oda in the SBS says Zoro's origins is a mystery. He's purposely not revealing it in the story for a reason. Zoro's grandfather's lineage may play a role later on in the story. There are still some details about his lineage that Oda left out that might be addressed as the adventure unfolds

I mean, yeah, Zoro being revealed as a Shimotsuki could’ve been in Wano and it would’ve been great. But that already heavily HEAVILY hinted through both in Thriller Bark and in Wano.
Same thing goes for Nami’s parents theories, Robin’s father theories etc. Is the only way they find joy in the series through “OMFGGGG *insert character* has the SECRET bloodline!!!!!!!!”?

Terra is a unique one though, I feel like Zoros mothers side could be expanded upon. We haven't seen any evidence of Conquerers haki from the shimotsuki Bloodline so I wager he got his conquerers Haki from his mother's, considering the fact he hid her first name her Bloodline would probably be important later in the story.
And also considering the fact Terra means heaven in Japanese, could be a stretch but imagine she is a tenryubito that rebelled.

So syv i have a question. I have had heated arguements on youtube recently about shanks. And my question is , if shanks wanted to be pirate king , wouldnt he be already if he was actually serious. I feel that Oda wanted to go into Zoro's family line in Wano, but due to the arc being very long the idea was dropped. I really wanted to know about zoro's family line and why a small group of Wano citizen decided to leave wano, considering how hard it is to leave and the strict punishment for leaving the place is and settled all the way in east blue. Further, it was also never revealed why Kawamatsu and his mom left fishmen island, maybe the father was a pirate in new world and they wanted to meet him. These small things peak my curiosity considering what an amazing story teller GODA is.

because nobody know even Zoro himself that he's a shimotsuki, and it would be feel kinda weird if suddenly some random person start talking and telling Zoro about his own family. A lot of people like Hyogoro already suspect it, but there's no way for them to confirm, and it already happen 55 years ago when his grandmother leave. Also they are in the middle of the war with two yonkous.

It’s good to know my speculations were correct.
My speculation was that it was an obvious giveaway that Kouzaburo MUST HAVE travelled with other people. No one can travel the grandline by themselves (except for Mihawk, Aokiji, and other strong characters etc). It says Kouzaburo settled down after saving a village implying the other sailors settled there too which must be where Zoro is from.
I get Oda was trying to hide this but he didn’t need to lie in the other sbs.

I'm tired of people complaining about this. The reason Oda didn't reveal this and Kid's backstory in the manga is because it's completely IRRELEVANT. A writing lesson, guys. Flashbacks don't exist just to tell a backstory. They are always tied to the current plot somehow, like Law's flashback is tied to Doffy. Or Robin is tied to the World Government. Or Sanji to Germa who were present in WCI.
Kid's backstory is tied to absolutely nothing relevant. And the only important part of Zoro's backstory is that he is Ryuma's descendant. Which was perfectly conveyed in that one scene in Wano. Again. It's Writing 101.

they were literally plot devices for other characters in these backstories. they gain very little story significance since them and in the end return to being irrelevant moving forward.

You can clearly see how the ending of Onigashima just ..... picks up it's pace really quickly, even the fight between Kid/Law and Big Mom ends really quickly all things considered
Wano was like an overly long build up, then a really hype climax only for everything to end on a whimper, legitimately the most disappointing arc in OP for me, Oda could have either cut down a lot of this arc's fat and made the story more compact or alternatively he could have allocated EVEN MORE time to it and he realized that he had been too ambitious with this arc. I think that Film Red was both a secondary reason of why the rushed ending (Oda already was feeling like it was dragging for too long and he had too much stuff left on the table) but simultaneously something that made it worse than it would have been otherwise

considering a considerable lot of One Piece movies are retellings of arcs then perhaps Zoro's backstory and Tama's ending will be told in a cinematic outing of the Wano arc

My guess would be that he had hoped to have an opportunity to explore it during Wano but none came up. Since it doesn't seem that there will be a better time to reveal it, he must have decided there was no point anymore to not sharing the lineage with the audience.

Pretty disappointing that the story of One Piece has ran so long and a fan favorite character such as Zoro can’t even get a couple chapters about his family tree. Instead 100 chapters are wasted on a backstory for Sanji.
Agreed. Sanji is a whole L and one of the long time fan favorites of the entire series can't even get a bone thrown his way when the timing wouldve been perfect in wano.
