That was 65 years ago, amazing
what a great voice by tony williams.nice to see the other members, herb green, zora taylor.rip🙏to all the platters original members.thanks for sharing
Only you (And You Alone) was definitely a hit. Tony Williams (My Grandfather) ugh, his voice was just everything. The Great Pretender and Smoke Gets in your eyes though are my top picks. =) RIP Grandpa (Tony Williams).
My Condolences. He left the world a better place because he shared his voice with us.
@@roymerritt348 he passed in the early 90s however; thank you for the kind words.
Smoke gets in your eyes
Yes, it's definitely worth checking Freddie's version of this, paying special attention to the three lovely ladies singing back up for him.
Brian's song that you're thinking of was 'Prophet's Song.'
Yes 😉
There's no way Freddie Mercury's version will beat Tony Williams'. The only person who could possibly compete with Tony Williams was Jackie Wilson, especially him doing Danny Boy.
Yes
I'm delighted to see this! The Platters are a deep dive of their own to a treasure trove of pop music. Looking forward to seeing the Freddie version.
Charlie, your saying about the most simple often being the most significant sounds like a restatement of Occam's Razor. It's age-old wisdom.
Nice job!
Tight harmonies, clean cut, well presented this is a live performance no autocue no annoying dances, the total package introduced by the man himself Alan Freed. Remember colored bands of this era were still subjected to the colour ban meaning coming through the back entrance and treated as 2nd class citizens.
One of my dads favourites he had it on 78rpm
Check out "The Andrews Sisters" from 1930s-1940s. They were the soundtrack for WW II, and sold more records than "The Supremes".
I used to keep pads of papers and pens everywhere I frequented. I recall waking up from a dead sleep, grabbing pad and jotting down what came, then went immediately back to sleep. A poem needing no revision, published years later.
That requires writing full-time, which means even when not physically writing one is consciously working on "things" during all waking hours.
I was about 8 when this was on the radio.
How ironic that the record company was called "Mercury records" 😀
You should check out what might be the Platters' biggest hit, "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes". Another classic is "Since I Fell For You" by Lenny Welch.
Both songs have been used in countless movies, tv shows etc
They're the kind of classics that stand the test of time.💙
Deborah Cornell I really like Only You (and You Alone)
Fun Fact : THE PLATTERS never made a bad song ! ! !
Now That's BIG Facts💯🙌💯
Can't wait to see the Freddie version! I agree, pay close attention to the three lovely backup singers and they are having a blast you can tell! Oh, and my favorite Platters song was one of their later songs, With This Ring.
Sensacional me emociona muito essas músicas! 👏👏👏😍❤
you guys just keep getting better. :)
Well thank you!
@@TheBassPlayer welcome. I am loving the research and delving you are doing for every video and song. early on I suggested you do a little research before your reactions. you have gone so much further and it shows in the quality of your reaction videos. :)
I do covers of oldies at open mics, and a few years ago I decided to try and finally write my own song. I thought I'd never be able to write anything. So I was so surprised that I was able to write the song in just a couple of hours! And it turned out to be quite amazing, if I do say so. Lots of diminished and unusual chords, with influences that sound Moody Blues and Rush-ish. It isn't as hard as you think it would be.
And I wrote a second song not long after, in about the same time frame, that was also really good. It was a ballad, and the first song was more of a cosmic/classical/folk tune. I don't know exactly how to classify it.
The only cover that I think Freddie or Queen ever recorded. Make sure you do Freddie's solo, not the Queen remake. Added later: this is the link ua-cam.com/video/mLRjFWDGs1g/v-deo.html In case you don't recognize him, that's Roger playing the blonde in drag and of course Freddie is the red head. There is also an extended version showing them getting dressed for the video. Very entertaining.
In 1972 Trident asked Queen to record two songs. Since the songs were covers, Mercury decided to sign as Larry Lurex. The Ronettes / The Beach Boys "I Can Hear Music" (with May and Taylor) and Dusty Springfield "Goin´ Back" (with May, Taylor and Deacon).
@@celsonicoliniTV Thanks, I didn't know that. Good info. Sandy
@@sandythomas5563 A few more cover songs on studio albums: Brian May (Star Fleet - puppet show theme; and One Rainy Wish - Jimi Hendrix), Roger Taylor (Racing in the Streets - Bruce Springsteen; Masters of Wars - Bob Dylan; and Working Class Hero - John Lennon) and the Cross / Taylor´s alternative band (Foxy Lady - Jimi Hendrix).
Uptown R&B. Precursors to Motown.
Listen to freddies extended version
You should react to Freddie's version
🙋🏾♀️ Dad, speaking of coincidences...take a look at the name of the song’s record label at 7:18 - 7:24. Hmmmmm does IT ring a bell as well with ya ✌🏾
I actually saw that before filming 😂 just didn’t say anything during filming 😂
Mercury Records : 1955
Actually have a few 45’s on the Mercury label!
she was a very pretty young lady
