Royal visits to Barrow in the 1960s

  • This film cover three visits to Barrow-in-Furness by the Queen during the 1960's. The first one, on a very rainy day, was probably to launch a ship at the Vickers Shipyard. The second one was when she visited with the Duke of Edinburgh. The last one was of a solo visit to the Town Hall.
    The exact dates of these visits is unknown.

    Excellent film clips. The security seemed to be much lighter in those days.

      There didn't seem to be any security. I was surprised when the Duke of Edinburgh stopped to comment with a lady about something she was wearing on her lapel.

      @@davidnoble1485 I guess there would have been some but perhaps very discreet so it wasn't noticed. It's massively different these days. In a completely different situation but perhaps analogous, up until the mid 1970s (still during IRA mainland attacks), you could walk freely up and down and right through Downing Street, straight past the door of number 10.
