The opening fight scene is one of my favorite scenes in any Bond. Raw hard core fight with the anchor on the shore line and the introduction of Diana Rigg. RIP Mrs Peel, Mr Steed is waiting for you.
OHMSS has always been my favorite Bond film. Bond had an actual character arc and the romance was genuine. You could also tell that Lazenby excelled at the fighting scenes. No stunt double necessary.
This is by far Lazenby's best Bond. I remember when I was a kid renting videos with my father every week. We always left this movie in the video store because there was so much negativity surrounding it. Only when we had seen all the other Bond movies we decided to rent this movie. We were both blown away by this movie. It instantly became my no.1 Bond movie and one of my all time favorite movies.
This was my first bond film. Remember seeing it at the local movie store and I loved the ski backdrop on the cover art. I vividly remember watching it with my dad and best friend at the time. The film hooked me and I have been a massive bond fan ever since. Now that I am older I appreciate this film even more due to its incredible score and cinematography. Aside from casino royal and skyfall this is my favorite bond film.
This is my #3 all time Bond film. So good. My #1 favorite Bond score, Diana Rigg’s Tracey is my #1 favorite Bond girl. If it starred Connery from his From Russia With Love days it would be my #1 all time easy.
Due to my loyalty for Connery, I didn't like this when I saw it. However, having read the books and sitting through the film again, it's in my top 5 favorites. Thanks guys!
I’m sure I remember reading a quote from Lazenby after seeing the Die Another Day premier and dismissing it. Boy, what a bad Bond movie to pick up on if he hadn’t seen any of the others! 😆
I am watching the 11th season of Hawaii 5-0 from the 70s (thanks to Scott’s suggestion) and I came across an episode with George Lazenby - with a moustache. Still handsome!
I avoided this movie for a long time but then finally saw it a few years ago and was amazed at how good it was. But can you imagine how good OHMSS would have been if Connery was in it?
About OHMSS i honestly believe that as much underrated it was for decades now we have gone too far the other side and it is someway overrated. The truth about OHMSS is somewhere in between. It is indeed a marvelous Bond film. Great action scenes, great music, greatest Bond girl, great plot etc. But Lazenby's performance suffers. He is not bad, but not convincing enough as James Bond. Also the whole scene of Bond dubbed badly and pretending to be "sir Hilly" in Pitz Gloria is one of the silliest in the franchise. It simply ruins the entire atmosphere of the rest of the film. In fact, as much as i like OHMSS, i always push the "forward" button to surpass that part of the movie, enerytime i see it.
I agree with everything you said. I will add when I first saw this. When Bond got caught, I was cheering because that was the weakest part of the film.
Lazenby was great in this role and I found it funny that 50+ years later people still compare him directly to Connery. Unfortunate IMHO. This film is the best in the series and leaves the awful Craig era for dust and George is a far far better Bond than the brick-with-eyes that is Craig.
It never ceases to amaze me that people who profess to be Bond experts and consider their opinions on the subject to be worthy of broadcast demonstrate such an obvious lack of familiarity with Fleming's original work. You cannot fully appreciate the cinematic interpretation of the character without first being versed in his origins, otherwise you are only getting half the story. In the beginning was the word guys, Bond started with Fleming and everything else just follows as replication, and, in my humble opinion, on a law of diminishing returns.
I genuinely wish I understood the point of this comment, because I would love to engage and debate... But, I clearly referenced the book (which I have read multiple times, and being my favorite Fleming Bond book) and talked about how the film improved upon certain story elements. I mean, I got pretty specific in referencing the book. (PS: I also don't recall ever professing to be an expert.)

Love this! Can't wait for more! I love hearing you two really get into these films and give your takes on it
This was such a good interview! Can't wait for Mooooore!

Exactly! I don’t think 1969 Connery would work well for this film, but 1962-1965 Connery would most likely be superb for this

The film can definitely grow on you and I love the locations!

I had ruffle dress shirts in the 1980s. And the ski suit was amazing. And just the fact that Bond had such a varied wardrobe is great.
I like the direction of the film

If you count Lazenby's appearance as JB in The Return of the Man from UNCLE, then obviously it's Lazenby's best.
Hows about the blue anorak jacket during the Piz Gloria assault tho? Great outfit!!
I mean, isn't that obvious?
Yes, On Her Majesty‘s Secret Service is Lazenby‘s best.

This film has everything, apart from a competent lead. Could've been the best.
Lazenby handled himself well and outside of Connery, he's the best Bond.

First Bond film I saw in a theatre back in 1969, when I was 8 years old. I have to say it was a waste of a great soundtrack and the script sucked!
