  • If you thought Rapa Nui was all about a dead civilization you would be wrong.
One Example of how the culture that crossed the pacific in a canoe then survived famine, slavery and disease is still alive and well Is the group of musicians, dancers and songwriters collectively known as Matato'a.
Its possible you have heard of Matato'a their fame extends way beyond the tiny pacific Island which gave birth to them.
Matato'a incorporate traditional Rapa Nui musical structures into new compositions, The result is something that continues the spirit of exploration which bought their ancestors to the Island this time in music and dance.
To the people of Rapa Nui ancestors are very important! I think if there ancestors are watching they will be very proud of the well structured, caring and artistic society this generation of Islanders have created from almost nothing, You have to ask yourself if the same could be said of your own country?
I was lucky enough to see Matato'a perform a show in there home town while I was on Easter Island, They performed brilliantly, the audio on my camera however did not so this is dubbed with the album version of the song one of there biggest hits "Here Ma'Ohi"
