Even if you cut back on usage there is still the standing charge. Step: on. get rid of the standing charge. Step two: put a windfall tax on gas, electicity and oil companies who have seen their profits soar, only through price rises not investment. Step three: start the renationalisation of utilities.
Exactly what I was thinking the other day a significant part of our energy bill is the standing charge. The standing charge is often more than the amount of energy you are using. I turn all my plugs off dont have lights on etc but when I woke up the other day I checked my smart meter and I'd managed to use 8p in my sleep maybe I've been sleep walking 🤔
Buy your own meter professionally and they have no power over you with that. All energy should be free and for all. We must end ownership of energy because all use it. It is owned by the all.
The words "Price Cap" is the exact opposite! It's not capping anything! Let's start calling it what it actually is Profiteering from PRICE FIXING! Why doesn't the government just stop these energy suppliers this price fixing? This is the first year I have ever heard of the term "price capping" as applied to energy charges. I thought the term capping was meant to stop them from charging extortionate prices not actively encouraging it. I remember (not that long ago) when all these energy suppliers were fighting and competing with each other by offering low prices and fixed price deals to win customers! Now they seem to be competing for the highest number of deaths they can be responsible for because no one can afford to cook food or stay warm anymore. The first couple of seasons of the TV series "Call the Midwife" portrayed the poverty and slum conditions very well. Do we really want to go back to living like that? Putting layers of newspapers between layers of clothing as a cheap of insulating against the cold? Ice forming on the insides of windows then damp and mold that grows when it melts. I'm old enough to remember these conditions. I don't want to go back to it, do you?

Energy suppliers and distributors are very, very greedy. Interest rates have gone up, affecting the less well off, affecting their mortgages. But it beggars belief why the Govt isn't approaching the energy companies as its the cause of inflation.
The only way to prevent stagflation would be curb high fuel , gas and electricity prices - this is one is an absolute must and unfortunately stop spending the welfare which fuels further inflation . This is the only way and would have to happen really fast . Rising base rate it is not enough - too late for this The Bank of England waited too long now more drastic measures are needed .
Raising the interest rate will not slow inflation when that inflation is caused by external factors such as rocketing gas prices. All they'll achieve is to make things even worse for us

Cutting taxes will only increase spending/demand whilst not addressing supply. Surely this will only fuel further inflation leading to a deeper , though delayed, recession. It would be better to continue focused help for the most vulnerable, namely, food, energy, and housing.
So in this uncertain climate, you think if taxes are cut to help people deal with the rising cost of living , people will go out and spend money on Prada shoes and £4000 suits? No. People will spend money on food and bills and try and save some money for the uncertain times ahead. High taxes will just increase personal debt. If interest rates go up, people will fall behind on their mortgages. The government should just learn how to spend wisely and stop wasting money. Sunak wasted a lot of taxpayers money during the pandemic. One individual was paid 21 million for sourcing PPE. If anyone knows how to spend - it's Sunak. He is not going to get inflation down because he is not fully in control of all the factors fuelling inflation. If you raise taxes we will have a deeper recession.

If the rich-poor divide is getting wider, where do you think all the money is coming from? The lower income earners or the middle income earners? Both. Energy suppliers and distributors are very, very greedy. Interest rates have gone up, affecting the less well off, affecting their mortgages. But it beggars belief why the Govt isn't approaching the energy companies as its the cause of inflation.

Don't think anyone can stop it
The only way to prevent stagflation would be curb high fuel , gas and electricity prices - this is one is an absolute must and unfortunately stop spending the welfare which fuels further inflation . This is the only way and would have to happen really fast . Rising base rate it is not enough - too late for this The Bank of England waited too long now more drastic measures are needed .
As soon add you say “the only way”, you lose credibility.
@@TheRadFactor no more than Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak when they say they will all of a sudden cut the tax . Hehe
Raising the interest rate will not slow inflation when that inflation is caused by external factors such as rocketing gas prices. All they'll achieve is to make things even worse for us
Just talk about it and its sorted....
These off-their-rocker Brexiteers have gotten the UK into this mess in the first place.

0:22 Cutbacks in the UK are severe.
This woman had to cut the bottom of her trousers off.
@@tgr5772 Taxes aren’t extend to those lower down the chain. So if you can barely afford food it doesn’t affect you.
Tax raises help inflation and force companies to put wealth benefit to the British people. So money can be invested in NHS, MOD, and Transport
@@natenae8635 Lower down which chain? We're pretty much all heading for the bottom. The tax burden is borne by middle income earners, those lower down get help in terns of Income support and benefits.
The country runs on personal debt. What is the economic benefit of increasing personal debt by high taxation? The health of the country is based on motivating people to believe that if they work hard they will progress in life. If the rich-poor divide is getting wider, where do you think all the money is coming from? The lower income earners or the middle income earners? Both. But the middle income earners subsidize the lower income earners so they get Income support so rich people and large corporations do not have to pay high wages and taxes. So give the people who bear the brunt of taxation in society a break.
@@tgr5772 So why are you supporting the person who is lowering taxes on rich companies. Rishi is gonna increase taxes on the corporations. If your complaining about tax burden on the lower and middle class why don’t you support corporate tax raises and the candidate who will do it.
