9:21 This is what consumers need to understand: when the US government imposes tariffs on a product imported from another country, it sounds like it is imposed on that other country directly, but this is not the case. The tariff is immediately paid by the US company buying those products from the other country, in this case China. So the one paying for the tariff is not the other country, but the US company that buys that product from the other country. This company will likely decide to not buy the product from that country anymore, and then, of course, that other country's economy is also affected. It is, in essence, the US government telling this company: do not buy from that country anymore or else pay the tariff.
@Bmac4863 The thought process is America will be rich as a result of the tariffs. American companies who have their products made overseas will likely produce in America again in order to avoid tarrifs. Therefore, the American economy will be greatly stimulated.
@@jwilsonbb5684 How fast has Europe moved away from Russian trade? Global trade doesn't like insecurity and the US has become a high-risk trade partner. Tariffs are a tax on American businesses that import goods from foreign nations, collected by the U.S. government, with the revenue going to the U.S. Treasury. The cost of tariffs are passed on to the American consumer in the form of inflation. During Donald Trump's first presidency, the value of the U.S. dollar declined 11%. Moody's downgraded the U.S. credit outlook from stable to negative.

The point of tariffs is that people don't need to buy more Chinese or overseas imports that are made for pennies and sold for mark ups that have made these companies beyond wealthy rather than making or creating these products in the US and employing the people into jobs that purchase these overly expensive things. These companies are pitching that they have to pay a little more and they are turning those cost up more by inflating the products. They pay 5 dollars more in tariffs and the purchaser pays 10 dollars.

The tariff on China is only 10% and 25% for Mexico and Canada. Shoes going from $50 to $75 is a 50% increase. That shoe company is ripping off people with their corporate greed.
What people don't understand is that the profit margins on many of these products is Sky High. The cost to produce that shoe was like $2.50 so a 25% tariff should only increase the price by about 50 cents. Electronics will be hit the hardest because the profit margin on many completely assembled electronics is in the single digits. For example, a $1000 TV may cost $986 to make so a 25% tariff would increase the cost of the TV by almost $250. This is why electronics are going to be the quickest thing to be produced in America again.

I'M NOT GOING TO SUGAR COAT IT (share this please): If our government truly cared, they would implement new rules for the payment of wages - 90% OF NET CAN NOW GO TO EMPLOYEES, so that if the billionaire class wants to have a trade war, then it will not affect anyone but the billionaire class!!! We've been facing difficult times for the last 50+ years, while the billionaire class (since Reagan Rep./Mulroney Cons.) implemented changes that saw a reduction over time of the ratio of pay:productivity to the point where primarily the exploitative, and people of their class, are the only ones able to afford having families. Then, out of what I can only imagine was pure stupidity and greed, our government saw fit to do them a solid for this and replaced the unborn future of Canada with a bunch of Third World wage slaves! It's about time those involved in committing them pay for these transgressions, right out of pocket, as wages, at a rate of 90% net to employees - FROM NOW ON, FOREVER, AD FINITO, END OF DISCUSSION! This solution will easily and with one fell swoop of a pen, solve the housing crisis, the health care crisis, the birth rate decline, poverty in general, government funding shortfalls, and so on. I think it's no coincidence that nobody in government is picking up on the fact that the billionaire class have us all right where they want us (unless they are in on this scam), but that we could simply deny them labour until they capitulate to our demands. General strikes have happened before and it appears that they will happen again. We, the working class, could also organize against the wealthy in other ways, and teach them a lesson about where 100% of their profits come from, and who can take away what they have grifted from us. We outnumber these dirty crooks several thousand to one and so it is that the majority of Canadian working voters should be calling the shots here, not these friends of billionaires in government, nor any employer, nor those holding housing for ransom! This government will capitulate on behalf of the billionaire class or things will get ugly. Maybe that was the plan all along? I just don't know who to trust any more. It seems as though those in power have forgotten the fact that history ignored is repeated and have instead made the conscious choice to side with the oppressors. If someone is threatening members of government in order to get them to play along, I suggest they blow the whistle on them to the public and become a well protected folk hero, who can then have the threat removed with the full force of Canada behind them. To me the grift is obvious: While these politicians play , "pass the buck," with our financial/mental/physical health and well-being, their corporate buddies continue to raise prices and post record profits. So it would seem that the corporate world and the government have colluded to cause grievous financial harm to all working Canadians, and they are all profiting from it greatly while the vast majority of us suffer, and in some cases, die preventable deaths because of intentional capital neglect. The wealthy will soon have targets on all their backs if this is the game they want to play. I suggest we practice our aim, so that when the time comes where there is no other option, we can affect the appropriate redistribution of the wealth that WE EARNED and THEY GRIFTED. And, if I may add; We all took an oath to, "Stand on Guard For Thee, O' Canada!" Whether it was in song or not doesn't matter. There was no mention of net worth or political office being a contributing factor to this in the National Anthem.
As a Canadian, I agree that border security is an issue that always needs attention-but this goes both ways. Every day, people, drugs, and guns are smuggled into Canada from the U.S. as well. Rather than pointing fingers, our two countries should be working together more effectively to combat these problems. And considering that Canada’s border situation is nowhere near the scale of what happens on the U.S.-Mexico border, it doesn’t make sense for Canada to receive the same tariff treatment. That said, I also believe Canada has put itself in this position through terrible government policies. We’ve failed to properly develop our energy sector when we should be a global energy powerhouse. Instead of capitalizing on our natural resources to strengthen both our own economy and North America as a whole, we've allowed political red tape and poor decision-making to hold us back. We should also be doing more in other areas-contributing at least 5% of our GDP to military spending, being a stronger and more reliable partner to the U.S. on the world stage, and securing an economic union with the U.S. that ensures North America remains strong, secure, and prosperous. Canada has the potential to do much more, but we’ve fallen behind due to weak leadership and short-sighted policies. That being said, Canada is still the largest importer of U.S. goods in the world-only Mexico comes close. And when you remove energy (oil) from the trade deficit, the U.S. actually runs a surplus with Canada. Agree with most of what you wrote,Cousin. The issue of immigrants using temporary Canadian visas and sneaking over the border and the cartel's increased exploitation of them is an underrated problem, incongruent for a first world friend like Canada.
@@a.teamplano9535 I completely agree with your concerns. Canada has suffered under disastrous policies for the past nine years, and immigration has been one of the biggest failures. The student visa program has been widely exploited, and our “catch and release” bail system allows criminals to walk free shortly after being arrested-completely insane. Most Canadians I know want a change, and we’re hoping for a swift shift in government to fix these issues. As these tariffs move forward, I fear our government will use them as an excuse to invoke emergency powers-allowing them to spend taxpayer money we simply don’t have in an attempt to subsidize businesses and citizens. While that may sound beneficial at first, it would only add to our already crushing tax burden. If this continues, Canada will face more serious economic and social instability-something the U.S. likely wouldn’t want spilling over its northern border.

I don't expect you to think it through because of who you are and how you distort things but all Mexico and Canada have to do is secure the borders and there will be no tariffs so they should be doing this anyway without the threat of tariffs. What don't you people understand???
Instead of imposing tariffs and hurting consumers now in exchange of uncertain (if any) benefits in the far future, the US government should be subsidizing national production with the trillions of dollars of taxpayer money they already steal from the people. Am I crazy here?

Inventory is a massive expense. The company I work for had to lay off more than half of its staff, hundreds of jobs, all because we had too much product for the demand. Logistics isn’t easy and maybe this is the reason we didn’t tariff the American people so much and so suddenly.
>The United States used to be a manufacturing country. Since the end of the Second World War this changed from a manufacturing center to a consumer center. All governments since the end of that conflict have been increasing the national debt, all of which has devalued the US dollar to the point where, today, a US dollar is worth about three cents, yes three cents, compared with a 1971 US dollar. So, today all the consuming US public is consuming with devalued dollars, hence, the increase in the sticker price of all goods and services. We simply need more of these devalued dollars to buy anything. >The plan by the current US government to install these tariffs is a distraction from the real problem which is the US debt and the devalued US dollar. Currently, the US debt to GDP ratio is well over 100% and so the only way to get this ratio down is either to pay down the debt or to increase the productivity of the nation.

Big corporations are already increasing prices on current stock to get ahead of the tariffs, so they won't have dip into their profits on their next orders from abroad! Corporations will be making boat loads of money while 70% of the population starve and eventually become even more poor!
...that and the fact that they need to pay customs upfront...before the stock leaves point of entry and therefore before they sell anything. Imagine you sell at a loss and you have already paid the tariffs 😬

Explained to them over and over how it actually works but nope somehow that information doesn't retain to their brain. I will play this in our breakroom today on max volume.

"Yes, all costs are passed on to the consumer.". Including these front loading storages
Canada and Mexico should form a pact to combat tarrifs. Mexico and Canada should raise export prices to the US by 1000% and watch how fast the US consumer will revolt against tarrifs. Fresh produce is needed everywhere in the world, no problem finding buyers. Car parts from mexico can sqeeze americans to revolt against policy.
Canada is economically smaller than Texas, the US can produce all the car parts and oil we need, there will be no revolt from moving car seat assembly back to Detroit or to SC or AL!
You should have front-loaded your report with the fact that Americans will be paying the Trump tariffs.
Or, they may choose to do without, or choose something else.

Nah, we produce enough eggs for Canadian consumption, same with Pork. Matter of fact without the US buying our pork the price might drop! Plus China, Asia and the EU will increase purchases because of the lower cost. For some there will be excess and new markets. Our farming will be supported via all levels of government.

A very well-written and informative article that clearly presents all angles of what these rates would mean for everyone involved. An excellent, professional, and objective piece.
Yeah the shoe guy is obviously making bank importing shoes made for next to nothing in China... and then selling them for $50 a pair... 🧐 Crocodile tears 😂

As an eBay reseller who sources inventory from thrift stores, I’ve noticed a significant shift in the thrift shopping landscape. Thrift stores are now flooded with customers who, in the past, might not have considered shopping secondhand. This influx of new shoppers became especially noticeable in mid 2024 and has only increased since then-along with thrift store prices. What was once a relaxed and relatively easy side business has now become highly competitive, making it more challenging to find quality inventory at affordable prices.

Buddy.. the reasons no one is in America is becuase its so expensive.. the reason why peopel are in poorer countries is because its cheaper.. its that simple..
you pay someon 1 $ usd vs 30$usd.. its that simple.. no company is moving to america to pay more.. get less.. deal with unions.. when you could litealrly exploit chinas poor. And get it for less than 1$usd..
When you can have soooo much stuff made in China, using cheap labour that pays a factory worker a dollar a day, how does Trump seriously expect American factories to compete, when unions insist on paying a factory worker 25 dollars an hour... HRH Donald is your typical baby boomer, still trapped in the greedy 80's when America was booming, (refusing to adapt to the new reality... 1.5 billion desperately poor people in China and 2 billion desperately poor people in India, are an endless supply of VERY cheap labour to be exploited by American corporations and trying to force them to make things in America, is BEYOND ridiculous.
China is no longer in the category of India,Bangladesh,Malasia.More goods are produced in the high-tech factories than were ever conceived of with dirt poor hand labor. The Chinese billionaires are in a battle with US companies all over the world.

You forgot the reason why tariffs exist... to make fair trade fair.
Republicans have historically supported free trade. Reagan was a champion of free trade. If you think Trump gives a dame about fair trade and the US economy, you are kidding yourself. This is all about vengeance and extortion.
If that is the case, why was there no tariffs from the beginning?
Unfortunately tariffs are an old and outdated economic method that no longer works in the current supply and demand models that exist today. They can be effective in smaller, specific applications. Making trade fair is, of course, what we want... but across the board tariffs are not the way.
I'M NOT GOING TO SUGAR COAT IT (share this please):
If our government truly cared, they would implement new rules for the payment of wages - 90% OF NET CAN NOW GO TO EMPLOYEES, so that if the billionaire class wants to have a trade war, then it will not affect anyone but the billionaire class!!!
Sorry to hear how bad it is in Canada! Perhaps someone like President Trump will surface in Canada and lead you out of the dark!
You want people to share this entire sat essay you just wrote?

The U.S. benefits significantly from purchasing Canadian oil at a discount, refining it, and turning it into about $200 billion in revenue. So while we need to improve in many areas, we’re still pulling more than our weight economically.
Not only that.. if you want us to secure.. you need Canada to have money.. it’s not the canadians fault our gov is so corrupted.. but you tank our economy how are we going to put money into security and 💩.. like.. it makes no sense.. already people in canada hesitate to buy american because customs kills us.. get rid of the tariffs and customs.. let both countries flourish without gov inference…
Same with china.. hate china our not.. there is a lot of. Stuff Americans became wealthy because they can make in china and hten sell for profit in America.. small business will be F because of this.. manufacturing in America is expensive.. Disney even moved to vancouver.. one of the most expensive places to live becaus it’s cheaper than california.. thats the advantage of haveing a strong dollar and exploiting countires with weaker ones..
They only need 1 year for Canada and Mexico...If I was a betting man I'd say Trump's using tariffs as a weapon to get a better deal in 2026 when NAFTA gets renegotiated.
In a year, Canada, Mexico, and China will be well into pivoting away from the U.S. to other trade partners. Short term American win, long-term loss.

Inventory is a massive expense. The company I work for had to lay off more than half of its staff, hundreds of jobs, all because we had too much product for the demand. Logistics isn’t easy and maybe this is the reason we didn’t tariff the American people so much and so suddenly.

We need more of these segments!
The former is out of the question; the second option will take maybe twenty to thirty years. The latter is not unrealistic since it really took over forty years to create this problem in the first place.
