I’ve loved dod 250s since I picked up a 90’s reissue sometime in the early 2000’s for 15 bucks. Wish I bought more of them back then because now they trade for 150 plus. Already put in an order for this one. Hoping it’s better than the latest dod reissue I have which has way too much bass for my liking.
I really like the JHS especially in the Up-position. I believe it might sound just great into a Big Tube amp with the output tubes working hard. I have got an old MXR Dist+ without the LED which has been sent to Björn Juhl/BJFE-pedals to get modified cause I feel that even though it sounds good it can sound even better. And it also needs a new switch:-)
The up position has silicon transistors (like most normal DOD 250s) while the down has germanium like very early DOD 250s (before they were even called 250s) and is basically a MXR Distortion+ (this is all according to JHS' video)
It really depends on what you need and what your rig is. If you lack mids, you'd probably like a tubescreamer better. If you have plenty of mids, then the 250 is probably better. Since you already like the Blues Driver, it's not surprising that you like the 250 better than a TS.

Now I know the Beatles version of that sound is pretty much impossible to perfect the emulate because part of it was created by a broken preamp circuit, but as far as cranking the pre-ups into overdrive I imagine there's got to be more than one pedal and all the thousands of petals out there that does that because I can't be the only person who would like to play songs using that same type of effect. Any pointers you can give would be appreciated whether on or off the show. I've been searching and searching and maybe I just don't know the right words to punch in or something but I just cannot find anything but dead ends or $390 JHS pedal that I'll likely never be able to afford because the next time I have an extra $390 to spend I'm getting that Harley Benton MR modern you made me fall in love with. @@60CycleHumcast I'm not angry. I am just stating a fact sarcastically. It's fine if you guys are ok paying for incredibly overpriced circuits which the company didn't even design themselves. They just stole the design that someone else probably spent days/weeks/months developing with their own knowledge and ingenuity. Sure, it's a "novelty". More nostalgia than anything else. And don't get me wrong. I think Josh is a cool guy. I know that many companies do the same thing. Most pedals out there are rip offs of older pedals. Even the DOD 250 is a rip off of the MXR Dist+.
My point is that companies should innovate and provide customers with good product at fair prices. And guitarist should definitely get more informed about what they're buying. The components for that original circuit of the 250 would barely cost you $30, including pots, jacks, enclosure, etc.
In short, make better product at fair prices. That's my point.
@@gab_ale You should probably create an association and do protestation walks in big cities because hey, bro, you're right, it's raping intellectual property !
@@TonyHawkTuah You probably have never created anything. That's why you don't care.
@@TonyHawkTuah You deleted your last comment? Too bad. You should not assume so much. I have been playing instruments for 34 years. Clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and bass. But we are not even talking about that are we? We are talking about electronic devices, their designs, and people making money out of designs that don't belong to them. Essentially stealing intellectual property. Just because many people in the music industry do it, it doesn't mean it is right. And by the way, I am also an Electrical Engineer, and I have designed my own pedals, and preamps. So I know what it takes to design one of these things from scratch.
....sounded...well pretty crap!!
but they work well to boost a marshall
