- More things break on our trip from NZ to Fiji. Why does this keep happening to us!? And why does it happen so often at night!?
We finally get approval to travel to Fiji and we leave New Zealand for warmer waters. Play a little Pirate Tag at sea, catch some tuna, marvel at the sunrise and make it to Fiji! Thanks for watching all!

ABOUT US: We are a family of five sailing around the world on our "dream boat," a performance catamaran named "Archer." Ten years ago B.K. ("before kids"), we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences via UA-cam and, by happenstance, created one of the first "sailing channels." We also realized what an incredible experience we were having and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with kids.
OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal. We have dealt with massive repairs in the South Pacific, the Coronavirus lock down in New Zealand, a Category 5 Cyclone in Fiji, and now we are cruising in Covid Free Australia. Videos for all of this to come!

THANKS for watching all. Subscribe and never miss an episode!
I love this family, so laid back and calm. The boys are really growing. Be safe Archer family.
I am always excited for a new video from my favorite family!
My finest piece of sailing came in an unanticipated storm. With some crafty sailing though drenched and weathered we came through it alive. I expected that from myself. It was my pregnant sister, brother in law and my girlfriend who were the real troopers that day. The same can be said for Elizabeth and the boys as they continue to impress with their durability and tolerance. Seth, you are one fine sailor but I expect that from you. You know you're just having fun buddy. Great filming and editing as always and thanks for the ride!
So Beautiful. Were going to embark beginning next year with our 5 boys... Love seeing these.
5 😅
Fairwinds
Hopefully you document it all.
@@wishusknight3009 We plan on it... Having a youtube channel is the thing that excite my boys the most right now... ha ha ha
@@cutekidstories That is excellent! Sadly we never did nearly enough documentation for the road trip I took with my two sons a couple of years back. Essentially living out of a camper on the back of an old ford pickup for almost 2 years. I think we were having too much fun to take pictures or video.
Another excellent vid, thanks guys!
I’m sure travelling in a pandemic wasn’t quite the sailing adventure you had envisaged for your family at the outset, but kudos to you both for giving your kids one of the greatest life lessons, make the most of what ever arises, enjoy life and all the people you meet along the way. You never know what’s around the next bend.
Ppppp
Love watching your family adventures! Thank you for sharing!!
Great video! Love it when you give us viewers a detailed explanation of the wind, sea state and sails deployed. Glad ya made it to Fiji! Be safe, fair winds.
Easy to forget how big that 51 foot Outremer is until we see you pulling down the Genoa jib and it seems to take more and more pulls to drop that huge sail.
The Reef behind you looks like Australia 🇦🇺 and is the catamaran next to you .. Zatara Family.. because we know that you were all together for a while. 👍⛵️ Another great episode.🏆
Absolutely beautiful thankyou I enjoy every minute
Just a great episode guys. You always show exactly what we're interested in. Well done👏😎🌬⚓⛵🌴🦘
Very nice job Capt and crew! Great vibe on your channel and look forward to following along! 🇺🇸💪👌
Really interesting to see what happens on your passage, thank you for sharing!
Another amazing installment - Hoping one day I can experience something similar!
Terrific episode!
Thank you
Thank you so much for sharing!!
Just amazing! Watches you guys the first time round without the kids..Inspiration.
Love your content!
Loved it as ever!!
really enjoyed it - thanks for sharing
You're an admirable family
Great vid guys, again!
Thanks for sharing !
Great as always
Amazing destination
Beautiful sunset 🌅
Great video I liked the sun set
Laser tag at sea….wow 👍🏼
Hey new subscriber here - you are an amazing family - your boys are absolutely legends, so adaptable and resilient - testament to great parenting - kudos to all aboard Archer
Thanks Anne. Welcome!
Seth, you are an amazing man!
What a Great video, We miss you guys. Greetings from Norway
WE MISS YOU!!
Thank you!⛵🇺🇸
Thanks guys.
awesome guys
I adore you guys so much ! I really hope one-day we get to meet maybe the Annapolis MD boat show✌🏻💗😊❣️
As usual kids, a wonderful and exciting view of another long passage. Your boys are so good and seem to keep themselves happily occupied during them! I guess all of those beatings have paired off!(Kidding) Elizabeth, your are an amazing girl, wife and Mom!
"All the beating have paid off" - That is such an old-school joke! I remember my great Aunt making the same joke to my mom when I was a kid. Crying lol
that sunset!
I would definitely have night vision on my boat. It's great for security checks while on anchor.
I've been watching your first travels without the boy's then some of the places with them. I gotta say your 1,000 tops a 10 as one of the kids say. The editing is great have fun. Carry-on
What a frustrating thing...how could they have messed up the installation of the furler ?? It’s cool that you’re so positive about what seems to be an entirety avoidable situation!
I love your teamwork. Good job Elizabeth, I believe you are officially a sailor. Between Elizabeths saving the sail by thinking outside the box to you explaining why you said it would be okay... "because I have a positive attitude." My wife and I adore your family. I plan/dream daily about my wife and I being out there in 7 years (hurts to say 7 years), would love to meet the two of you out there on the seas but I know you do not plan on being out there that long. Love the way you are raising your children, well done. Cheers and fair winds!
Hope we’re still out there. Let’s see!
I hope New Zealand looked after ewe well!
Elizabeth has the best smile ever!
That's a "Million Dollar Smile!"
Praise God for answered prayers. Once again God made away for you kids to reach safe harbor once again. We continue to hold you kids up in prayer along with the other cursers on our list and a blanket prayer for the ones not on our list yet... I know that God has worked all things out for your good because that's HIS PROMISE to us.... You kids just keep on keeping on and enjoy the many blessings God has set before y'all...
Much love and prayers, be blessed in Jesus name... BBE...
♥️♥️♥️
Wow, never seen a snap like that. Was it flowing hard or just crappy materials? I can imagine it being installed incorrectly, as they are not difficult to replace.
Around 800 AD peoples from the Tahiti/Marquesas area got in wood canoes and paddled/sailed north with no idea where they were going but they landed in uninhabited Hawaii. Those voyages most likely had death rates of at least 50 percent. In fact, up until the early 1800's, sailing vessels routinely had trip fatality rates of 50 percent. Around that time the average life expectancy on earth for humans was about 35-40yrs old. 1,120 years later, life expectancy in America was 56 yrs old. Today, life expectancy in America is 78.5 yrs old and about the same in the South Pacific. Doesnt it seem weird that the world locked down over a virus that 99.7 % of people survive and the average age of death has been 79 yrs old ?

Jacksonville Florida
So we saw your two boats a couple of months ago at the vuda point marina a couple of months ago so these videos must be quite along way behind- where are you now?
Not bluefin but albacore tuna
Funny enough i am dying to get out of Vuda after been stuck for weeks. Anyone planning to come north you're better head to SavuSavu
Speaking of nothing out here, between Huahine and Oahu there is absolutely nothing! Soloed and the 2nd night, like you, alarms set and crashed for 4 hours....and then squall lines came! Better to cat nap during the day to deal with them and be awake at night for when the stars disappear!
On motion sickness: live in St. Pete, FL purchased a 22 foot Catalina sailboat in the afternoon. Took the family to see it in the evening. While at the dock I got seasick sitting in the cabin and had to go upstairs. WHAT DID I DO???? Things were somewhat under control until one day, in about 4 foot waves the boat suddenly picked up on a wave and I literally surfed down that wave with my wife and son in the bottom of the cockpit, another friend hanging on for dear life on a stanchion on the front of the boat, body dangling off the boat. That boat was for sale at a very reasonable price the next day.
I would love to know from your wife's opinion if she is enjoying this experience sailing as much as she did years ago when you both sailed. Really curious on her opinion.
The north pole is moving your GPS is trying to find the north .
I come Fiji and stuck in UK😥. Enjoy your trip to the PARADISE 🙏🇫🇯🙏
Have you tried coiling lines in a figure of 8 ? we do it all the time, stops the kinks and tangles!.
Yes, that keeps twist out, but when the winch is adding a twist we need to reverse coil the line to remove that twist, thus the reverse twist. But you're right, the figure 8 way is the proper way to coil line for sure!
I prefer to leave my jib sheets on the winch and never cleat them off . I feel it’s easier to let a bit of line out if you need too which you can’t do if it’s cleated
We think that’s the best thing to do.
Kids eating real sushi 🍣 .. badass.
Tasty!
How close to the wind does your wonserful boat sail well?
It showed like 40-ish?
@@tip0019 With the boards down I think it will do better than that. But how much better?
We can point very high, but optimal boat speed (VMG) is around 40 degrees apparent. But the real question is how much drift do we have. We find we can sail roughly 55-60 degrees up wind.
Hey Elizabeth, What's the active ingredient or brand name of "the patch" please?
Scopoderm. Worked well but gave me dry mouth and made me feel a little sleepy. Hope it works for you! Elizabeth
Do you do all the sailing ? Editing ? Filming ? Do you sleep ?
Not much!
Just sharing information, a friend of mine, lives in Hawaii, sent me this. Pu'Uhonua is pronounced....Poo-ooh-oh-new-wa. I HAD to ask, and that is what she said is the way to pronounce your Buddy-boats name!!!!!!!
BTW, THANK YOU for the videos!!!!!
I was just coming to do the same thing. Poo-oo-Ho-new-aH. (place of refuge) I had a little giggle at Elizabeth struggling with it. Hawaiian looks difficult but is actually quite easy once you learn the basics.
Yeah. We figure it out eventually, but keep messing it up on purpose (to tease them a bit). But yes, you are right!
Must be nice just pickup your entire home.
You never need to pack!
Guys- Why do you and the other cats all discard Skipjack Tuna? Been trying to work it out, I googled it, didn't find what I was looking for?
Skipjack are extremely oily and bloody. As a result, they taste horrible!
Another awesome vid from the Sailing Fam! Feeling the kids’ pain of being sea sick for the first few days offshore.... Around the 14:00 mark, is that the boat pounding / bridge deck slamming upwind?
Why do you release skipjack Tuna? Its the variety that's in most cans and you're not having an environmental impact with line/rod catching. I know to avoid the liver though.
Are you guys still sailing? I’m thinking those night passages would be much easier with 3 grown teens
We're still sailing. And yes, more crew would be helpful!
I am sorta confused with this old video that goes back about a year ago. The last you were seen was back in 2020 in a Zatara film sailing from NZ to Australia, tossing an orange between the boats You arrived in Australia ahead of Zatara in a race to get there. Unfortunately Both you and Zatara were forced into mandatory 14 day lock-down inside a hotel around the first week of January 2021 and seen talking with Keith room to room from the balcony of that hotel room on one of Zatara's films. I cannot fathom being locked up in a small hotel room with 3 very active kids for 14 days without the breaks we adults normally need to keep our sanity.
The World is upside down right now. Your family has brought joy to me and others that have watched your adventures. I do hope all is well with your family even if you have decided to take a break from sailing for now.
We fell a bit behind. But we’re catching back up. Thanks for watching!
Where are you going to finally park in Fiji. My family lives there, maybe they could come down and say hello. PM, if needed.
This was filmed last year
At 9:37--your Sushi rolls--what is the orange color? Mango??
My guess is that would be one of the Tuna they caught!
It was carrot slices! Mango would have been better...
Love to know what the problem with the furler was ., OK I know it wasn't a race - Who got there first out of the 3 of you , As i used to say We are cruising until we see another sail on the Horizon .
Come back next week. We show you!
@@TheSailingFamily will do
That patch did not work well for me. The Relief band does seem to, as does dramamine - albeit with side effects.
So this is from 2020? Gets a little confussing!
We fell a bit behind. But we’re catching back up. Thanks for watching!
Hmm, the little boys didnt get much speaking roles in this episode....is it bcoz they got seasick?
You’re still posting from 2020 ? Did i miss something ?
We fell a bit behind. But we’re catching back up. Thanks for watching.
Great videos and unrehearsed commentary.
Why do you release the skipjacks?
In other videos he said they taste terrible.
Chuck is right. We hate them. Too oily and fishy. For our tastes.
Truth be told this is not the first time u depended on equipment that failed you (furlers). You need to do some exercises on what to do when they fail. Like have a hank on ready to deploy to make sure your life does not depend on the weakest link. Good short video of 1500 mile passage.
That’s exactly what we did. We brought down the Genoa and used a hanked on jib as a backup.
@@TheSailingFamily my bad I didn't get that from your fix description.
Why are your videos posted so late, July,2020?
We just fell behind. It's a lot of work! But catching up now.
It's a good thing marine gear & sail makers don't make airplane parts. There would be crashes every day. They can't make parts that are really safe won't break. Marine gear breaks on every passage leaving sailors compromised.
Not a bluefin tuna. Albacore.
Or big eye.
Look more like albacore than bigeye.
Crossed fingers: common usage of the gesture traces back to the early centuries of the Christian Church, and likely earlier. Christians who would cross their fingers to invoke the power associated with Christ's cross.
Informed consent?
I would have told the people treating you badly that they would be speaking Japanese if it were not for the Americans.
Love how the nurse carrying out the COVID test does not have ANY PPE on of any kind, this is against guidelines
Whose guidelines?
@@sailingsoulmate7551 NZ and Australian
The whole thing was kinda silly. There was zero Covid in New Zealand. We only got tested because Fiji required it. Not much risk there for the nurse way up in Northern NZ.
@@TheSailingFamily COVID or not while taking swabs minimum PPE worn should be gloves
Too bad you did not seem to get the greater lesson of the pandemic..... at least your tone seems to indicate this.
Why are your recent posts from 10 months ago? Great stuff, just wish your stories were more relevant.
We fell a bit behind. But we’re catching back up.
