Learning how to cook with a wok (Kung Pao chicken)

- Growing up, I cooked with my mom all the time but fell off as I entered high school. Now that I have kids I wished my parents have written down their family recipes, and since they live in another continent, I long for that childhood taste! So, I decided to make videos to share with my kids when they grow up and I'd love to share it with you all! Like my video and subscribe to my channel! To be clear, I'm learning how to cook so I'm no pro!
Here's my other video! • Learning how to cook w... - Навчання та стиль
I agree, you got your wok too far from your condiments. Should have everything at your sides.
What a simple but efficient advise
You Need to mention the name of the ingredients that are added to the wok.
Nice set up love videos like this please make more cooking videos very inspiring to me you’re doing good thanks for sharing
How to cook with a walk ;)
Great video.. I would have done this a little different but hey, it works
Like your set up. I too had a conversation with Greg Wong after watching his videos. Currently considering buying this set up also. Good start. Keep the videos coming. Just subscribed.
Just checking in! Did you end up getting it?! If so, I'd love to see your setup. 😎 hope all is well!
Should wait til the oil is more hot to deep fry, otherwise food gets too greasy
I suggest next time you should bring the cooking gas burner table next to the ingredients table, or at least within reach , just so you don't have to constantly walk up and down .
Love that stove set. I got exact one from Greg Wong!
I'd love to see some of your videos with that wok station. Mind sharing??
Excellent cooking skills. Thanks for the great video. Looks tasty.
Mike S - Thanks! Just started to learn and I'm very excited to learn more so I can cook at home rather than going out. 😊
Ask a Chinese restaurant Cook. I notice he's just a newbie while cooking with Wok. The way he toss and how he cook. In a restaurant it must be a fast pace.
I never don't know how to cook. That's great
looks amazing!
What is this set up called and Where can I buy this?
Nice video. Interesting set-up. Where did you get the oil pan/bucket (at the side of the wok)? I like the shorter size compared to more common taller stainless bucket. Thanks!
Sorry for the delayed response. Covid has consumed all my free time while I focused my attention at work.
I came across this cool dude named Greg Wong online and purchased it from his website. Check out the info below. He also has a UA-cam channel called 'Cooking with Greg Wong'. Hope you get one! Please let me know when you do and share some videos of you cooking. Love to learn more from others. All the best!

Do you save and reuse all that oil used in the beginning
Simon, way to get your wok-on! Great job
Thank you, Greg! Covid has been keeping me busy with work so I haven't been able to fully practice with it as I intended to. Hoping to get back at it soon! Hope all is well!
Where did you get that walk table that’s beautiful I want one of those for outside

I think you should put your condiments one kilometer from your wok
IwanCapirossi Better still, when he needs something, switch off the stove, go to the local store, buy and come back and continuing cooking. Lot of space in the patio. Just don’t understand what he is thinking.
@@drt4789 lmao.... your comment really made my day brother.... lol.....
IwanCapirossi As does your’s, bro
Nice mise en place.
Love the video! I have a similar wok and am wondering how to clean/take care of it?
what wok is that?

Please take this with a grain of salt (no pun intended!). People say don't use soap to clean it but the way I clean it is immediately after use while it's still hot as this seems the easiest to scrub out what's stuck on the wok. I use soap and hot water, scrub and rinse. The important part is to put it back in the stove and heat it until it smokes again to get rid of any leftover water. Finally, I put a few drops of cooking oil and wipe it with a towel or paper napkin as this will prevent it from rusting. Again, I'm a total newbie but this has worked for me. 🙂
The title was learning how to cook with a Wok . Not watch someone cook with a Wok
i think he was trying to say that he was trying to learn how to cook with a wok. it's a literal description of what's happening in the video.
Thank you!
Great video.
I would move the table closer. Wok cooking is too fast when you must walk around. Everything should be in reach without moving. Yes, I learned the hard way.
Can you show us how to care for our wok ?
Where did you get that big strainer
Hi there how does this burner go with a bit of wind in your yard ?
Good question! It hasn't cut out during windy days. Still works great after all these years!
Where did you get that wok burner/table combo?

@@UNOCHATTA awesome! Thank you so much for the links, loved the video, you should make more.
Where did you get the set up?? i need that. Worked 12 years in a chinese restaurant I could make everything on the menu. I just like to cook at home now for fun

@@Tufelhunden85 thanks!
Sorry for the late response and thank you for providing the info @Teufelhunden85! Did you ever pick one up??
Yes I did thanks!
How are we supported to know what you're using. :(
Nice Simon!
Despite criticism I appreciate the effort. Most people just watch the content instead of making any effort to show their own skills, but they are very happy to leave ignorant comments. I hope your Kung Pao chicken was as tasty as it looked on the plate. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words! I'm just learning and hoping that my daughters get to see how I cook when they grow up. I appreciate your positivity! Definitely need more of these vibes nowadays. Hope all is well!
what is the size of the wok being used please?
Sorry for the late response! Covid has been keeping me busy. I believe the size of the wok is 14 inches.
where did you get this outdoor wok setup?

We suppose to guess what you are doing? Thx for sharing your thoughts! Next time speak of what you are doing and what ingredients you are using! Duh!
Bring the wok closer to station saves time?
I was really nervous when I was started but have been putting the table closer each time I cook. Still not quite comfortable yet and am still learning. 😊
love the video, what brand of wok is that ?
I honestly don't know... All I know it's a Japanese wok that I picked up at a local restaurant supply store. 😕
Looks like the same wok that is available at restaurant supply, amazon and eBay. It’s 14 inch, round bottom and make sure the handle looks like this one. I gave $14-16 US for mine. It is same one. Very good wok. Make sure you season correctly.
I love cooking in a wok but why is your table so far away from the wok. Way too much walking time.
Hey Simon is this a silent picture show?
Yeah, thanks for talking us through with your ingredients
Lol, has the sauces 180 miles away on another table... :/
wow where do i get that cooking station!!????

i agree everything is too far from his wok station back n forth walker
Definitely good handle on the wok, though I think you missed peanuts :P Or is it a HK style?
Lol! Thank you and I'm still learning! It's chef's special... It's whatever expiring soon. 😂
Learning how to SLOW cook with a wok on LOW HEAT (Kung Pao chicken) S.1 E.1 - Fixed the Title... LOL
Try moving the wok and ingredients closer together so you’re not running, and announce what you’re doing so people watching can learn. Looks delicious though!
Thank you! I was still learning so I wasn't comfortable putting the table too close in case something catches on fire. However, I'm moving it 1 cm closer each time I cook. Hoping by age 75, I'll build up the courage to put the table right next to the wok station 😅
Where are the flies?
how'd you get the rig?

Could you just bring the table closer to the wok? 😏😏😏😏😏
Shut the Hell up - yeah... I'm still learning so I'm a bit scared to put anything to close to the flame. Hopefully I can get more comfortable soon!
is this how you make reply to your viewer???very disappointing!
Ava Dimasuay - hmmm... Just so we're clear, are you disappointed about the fact I started my reply to the previous comment with 'Shut the hell up'? if so, this is the name of the user and I always reply with first adding the users name and then following my response. otherwise, not sure how my comment is disappointing... At any rate, thanks for watching and commenting!
@@avadim8382 the dude's name is "shut the hell up" lol chill
@@avadim8382 I noticed the guys name is shut the hell up. It was not an insult. He picked his own name.
Not bad, not excellent. Seems not much wok-hei was achieved. You could also do with some more training of tossing and in-wok flame ignition. But all in all, your way of making 宫保鸡丁 is better than that of many chefs in 四川.
Good koking
No P.F. Chang's, but looks good.
Ai ai ai !!!
nice video, but personally I dont think you should toss the wok in that way cos the wok is pretty heavy so u'll feel tired at ur arms shortly. anw, the video is so coolll
You put chickens too early.
Yr so cute
So much oil ?? 😬
Your working table was too far frm your wok
is that a ZhenSanHuan brand wok? it looks evil
I honestly have no idea! 😕
What are the ingredients? Talk more, walk less.
Dude c'mon. This might be the least impactful cooking demo ever on UA-cam
It says learning how to cook with a wok, not teaching how to cook with a wok.
He’s trying his best it says he is learning :(
Good efforts but you were so busy traveling to get the different spices/ingredients you didn't have time to mention them, setup seemed disjointed I think that interfered with a smoother flow of things😊👍🏽
Dude either move your trolley near the table or vice versa.
Oil not hot enough and soaking it all up.
How many times are you going to use that oil? That’s actually illegal in restaurant kitchens.
How can you think this could possibly be useful? You don’t discuss ingredients used or your thinking in your preparation. The idea here is not just to demonstrate what you can do but to teach others what they can do. Poor judgment in developing this.
Hey Howard Gooblar! To be truthful, this video was mistakenly uploaded to the public so it wasn't meant for others to view but because I see increasing viewers I decided to keep it in the public domain. As a result of this experience I plan to start creating more videos with simple instructions. Please view my 2nd video in the description if you're still up for it. Thanks for commenting!
