  • A family camping at a natural reserve in Kgalagadi, Botswana, knew that a close encounter with wildlife was possible, but did not expect a lion to come heart-stoppingly near them.
In this incredible video, recorded on May 8, the big cat can be seen calmly strolling through the campsite and sniffing around the dinner table. As it eventually leaves the scene, the camera turns to a family, sitting perfectly still and silent a few feet away.
One of the campers told Storyful that the family had agreed before setting up their stuff that should they have such an encounter, they would “not go running, as it would encourage most wildlife to chase.”
The recorder of the video, who said that the trip into Kgalagadi had been a once-in-a-lifetime experience, told Storyful that the video should serve as a warning to all who visit the park.
“Lions come into the camps unannounced and in total silence as it happened to us,” she said. “If anyone panics and runs or makes sudden movements, the chances are high that they may be attacked.”
She said that being in such surroundings was a privilege, but that there was “no room for error.”

Man Americans and guns 😅! So many comments suggesting shooting a lion. No , you don’t need a gun in this situation, you won’t have a gun either, you can’t even bring a gun into botswana.

@@Aszniko where? Guns are not even legal in Botswana. Guns are actually very rare across the world.

@@marcopeel In my country having a gun is illegal, but it doesn't change a fact that there is plenty of people who is having license for using the gun against animals and humans. I do not believe a park ranger is not allowed to use a gun in his working area. No way.

And I'm out here camping in the mountains of the southwest just hoping that a bear or a mountain lion will wander in to my camp as I'm sitting under the stars or in broad daylight. It is always possible and I love that feeling.

I was on a safari where an American woman stuck her head out the window to whistle at the lions... not knowing one behind her he was hunting her and bit her head off. It was on the news in South Africa but I'm not sure the story made it to the states. Probably because of pure embarrassment lol

Lions don't see humans as prey as long as you don't keep eye contact and no sudden movements..... you'll be fine

this is when you have your high powered gun ready, and blast the lion full of holes.
the lion gets humble very quickly.
