In part two of our European islands special, come with us to Martinique. The small island is located 8,000 km from Brussels and is one-thirtieth the size of Belgium. But as a French overseas department, it’s also part of the European Union. In this Caribbean paradise, we lift the lid on a 30-year pesticide scandal that's responsible for one of the highest rates of prostate cancer in the world and a rate of premature births four times higher than in mainland France.

Another stereotyped video about the French West Indies. With exotic rural scenes, despite Martinique being highly urbanized.
They could have shown what Europe mainly does on these islands : granting fundings for expressways, hospitals, small businesses' development, etc.
I would love to visit Martique one day. It's so unique.
I love their creole language
Thanks
Where you from Trinidad ?💓
ou enmen’y osi @marlene97270
I would love to visit Martinique or Guadeloupe, so if someone would like to invite me I am happy to help also at home or in the garden. J'aussi parle français.
Welcome to come anytime ! I’m from Martinique ! I can show you around
@@mollymo6229 Merci, back then I was looking for a workaway-like opportunity in Martinique. I still want to go.
Great program. Didn't know that about the bananas. Would it be possible to find out the name of the music track at the very end of the video? I tried to Shazam it but it found no results. Very catchy tropical-celtic fusion sound!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!
Ah, I don't care about the damn bananas or the damn climate change. Show me the sights, scenery and traditional villages.
May I ask how can a foreigner work and sustain his living at Martin please?
Tourism industry is where you want to look.
J'apprends le français 🤝
I found it very expensive and the people not very friendly. Sorry.
Lies.
Only the most ignorant of poseurs pronounces the proper nouns in a different language than the rest of the sentence. I made it to 3:20 before I had to turn it off👎
Funny France wants to hang on to its global possessions yet it takes and takes from them and ignores the issues that affects them until the talk of more autonomy or independence comes into the conversation. Seems like a one way British Empire type relationship to me.
They want to hang on to France themselves. When colonialism was abolished 50 years ago, they voted to remain part of France, because they saw what happened to Haiti.
I believe the people there were consulted about independence or remaining with France, and the vast majority have chosen to remain part of France. By the way, the standard of living in the island, although not that big, still is much better than say Haiti or Guyana, it has better infrastructure and education, and its politically stable.
French island, not Europe !
Part of the European Union wether you like it or not.
Come to Mexico we are árabe
Funny how Europeans sugarcoat their colonies but are quick to denounce other countries on allegations of colonialism
