      That's exactly what it was called by the Christians of the Great Protestant Reformation. It wasn't called "Easter" in America until the Catholics began emigrating here in the late 1800s. We had a Protestant Reformation for a reason. That was to break away from the pagan customs of the Roman Church.

"Unto us a Son is born, unto us a child is given, and his name shall be Wonderful Counselor [the Holy Spirit], Almighty God [self explanatory], Everlasting Father [God the Father], and the Prince of Peace [God the Son]." So Isaiah gives us the three that are who make up God. This fits with other parts of Isaiah where God speaks and says that he is sending his "messenger" to take care of things and the "messenger" is named God.

    • @ToxicallyMasculinelol
      @ToxicallyMasculinelol 2 роки тому +8

      @@generaljg4373 If you read the Bible like a children's storybook then you might have some difficulty understanding doctrine. It wasn't intended to be a straightforward program for you to mindlessly download into your brain. You have to read the entire thing, the subtext, connect the typological dots, and draw inferences. The Bible never says explicitly "the nature of the Son is x" and "the nature of the Spirit is x." But it does attribute a bunch of actions to those words which clearly reveal they are Persons with some kind of nature. And if you study those actions, especially in the original languages (mainly Hebrew, Koine Greek), it's quite apparent that they all must have a divine nature and are all present at the beginning, not creatures. That's why the trinity was affirmed so early and challenged so late and by so few.
      Obviously, none of the prophets ever explicitly affirmed the divinity of Christ either, but this is implicit in all 4 Gospels if you read with some sophistication and an understanding of 1st century Jewish beliefs and customs. If you understand what Jews believed about the name of God, about things that only God could do, then you can see those things are attributed to Jesus in the three synoptic Gospels. Then when you get to John it's just abundantly clear that we must be talking about a divine Person, even though he never comes right out and says "Jesus is God." The reason John is so much more explicit is because his is later and it's written in response to gentiles who read the synoptics and didn't quite get the references to "I AM" and God's monopoly on the ability to control the weather, resurrect the dead, etc.
      At the very least you have to affirm that God is biune, i.e., binitarian. There's just such abundant textual evidence that Jesus is God, not merely human or angelic. So if you're going to affirm the divine inspiration and authenticity of the Bible then you have to at least accept Jesus is God. Otherwise just ditch the whole thing. And affirming the divinity of Jesus is the first step to affirming the divinity of the Holy Spirit. If you then read every reference to the Spirit in sequence it's so obvious that the Spirit, i.e., the Comforter, the Sanctifier, the Helper, is a Person and most certainly divine.

Most of these inscriptions are in an incomplete state, yet many are at least reasonably legible. Some of these inscriptions refer to the Austriates, evidently the name of a social group.[18] The name of these goddesses certainly derives from the root austri-, which, if Germanic, would be cognate with the Old English Eostre. But the goddesses might equally be entirely independent.[19]"

    • @ToxicallyMasculinelol
      @ToxicallyMasculinelol 2 роки тому +4

      Wikipedia also says "According to linguist Guus Kroonen, the Germanic and Baltic languages replaced the old formation *h₂éws-os, the name of the PIE dawn-goddess, with a form in -reh₂-, likewise found in the Lithuanian deity Aušrinė. In Anglo-Saxon England, her springtime festival gave its name to a month (Ēosturmōnaþ, West Saxon Eastermonað), the equivalent of April, then to the Christian feast of Easter that eventually displaced it."

      But really it's beside the point, because Pascha has been around much longer than it was ever known as Easter. The vast majority of languages call it some transliteration or variant of Pascha. And Pascha is a transliteration of the Hebrew Pesach, meaning Passover. Easter and Pascha are the same holiday. Anyone can verify this by simply going to celebrate Pascha in pretty much any non-Germanic speaking country. Since they claim that all of this stuff was fabricated or co-opted by the "Roman Catholics," they could go to Rome and see for themselves. But they won't, because the goal is not knowledge, it's attention and money. Just like people who publish UFO conspiracy theories and install themselves as conspiracy gurus, their purpose is to take advantage of their audience's credulity, not to edify themselves.

    "What we know by FAITH and what we learn by REASON cannot be in conflict."
    - St. Augustine of Hippo, Church Father (354AD.)
    Historically, the Catholic Church has often been a patron of sciences. It has been prolific in the foundation and funding of schools, universities, and hospitals, and many clergy have been active in the sciences. Historians of science such as Pierre Duhem credit medieval Catholic mathematicians and philosophers such as John Buridan, Nicole Oresme, and Roger Bacon as the founders of modern science. Duhem found "the mechanics and physics, of which modern times are justifiably proud, to proceed by an uninterrupted series of scarcely perceptible improvements from doctrines professed in the heart of the medieval schools."
    Catholic scientists, both religious and lay, have led scientific discovery in many fields. From ancient times, Christian emphasis on practical charity gave rise to the development of systematic nursing and hospitals and the Church remains the single largest private provider of medical care and research facilities in the world. Following the Fall of Rome, monasteries and convents remained bastions of scholarship in Western Europe and clergymen were the leading scholars of the age - studying nature, mathematics, and the motion of the stars. During the Middle Ages, the Church founded Europe's first universities, producing scholars like Robert Grosseteste, Albert the Great, Roger Bacon, and Thomas Aquinas, who helped establish the scientific method.
    During this period, the Church was also a major patron of engineering for the construction of elaborate cathedrals. Since the Renaissance, Catholic scientists have been credited as fathers of a diverse range of scientific fields: Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) pioneered heliocentrism, Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744-1829) prefigured the theory of evolution with Lamarckism, Friar Gregor Mendel (1822-1884) pioneered genetics, and Fr Georges Lemaître (1894-1966) proposed the Big Bang cosmological model, he is the Father of Big Bang Theory. The Jesuits have been particularly active, notably in astronomy. Church patronage of sciences continues through institutions like the Pontifical Academy of Sciences (a successor to the Accademia dei Lincei of 1603) and Vatican Observatory (a successor to the Gregorian Observatory of 1580).
    As the world's oldest and largest continuously functioning international institution, it has played a prominent role in shaping the history and development of Western civilization we now know today. The Catholic Church is the largest non-government provider of education and medical services in the world. The Catholic Church manages 26% of health care facilities in the world, including tens of thousand hospitals, clinics, orphanages, pharmacies and centers for those with leprosy. The church has always been involved in education, since the founding of the first universities of Europe. It runs and sponsors tens of thousand of primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities throughout the world and operates the world's largest non-governmental school system.
    In the words of J. L. Heilbron of the University of California, Berkeley, the "Roman Catholic Church gave more financial aid and social support to the study of astronomy over six centuries, from the recovery of ancient learning during the late Middle Ages into the Enlightenment, than any other, and all other institutions." This financial and social support extended also to other branches of scientific inquiry. The Church is patron of Learnings and Social Services for almost 2000 yrs.

He wrote that a pagan festival of spring in the name of the goddess had become assimilated into the Christian celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
