hi im not certain if you still check these comments, but whenever i export my project (build DLL) and i go back to settings, it says "invalid input method" and the keyboard doesnt work when i remove my original US keyboard. is there any way to fix this? and thank you for the tutorial!

I don't think this program will have anything to do with word predictions, only input.

Whem i click build DLL and setup package (Even on already existing non changed keyboard layout) it gives me 4 errors with text
"CL.EXE returned 1
RC.EXE returned 1
LINK.EXE returned 1"
After that it acts like it didn't generate any files. Nothing appears in the working directory. Please help.

Got this same problem and yes, removing spaces from "Utility Files" making it "UtilityFiles" only worked. Thanks to this comment
I tryed Powertoys (multiple unworking versions), Mouse and Keyboard Center (for Microsoft keyboards, which my HP laptop don´t have), HP Premium Keyboard
Software and drivers for HP Premium Keyboard (HP software), Hetman Software and SharpKeys. After many wasted hours this software can finally fix my little problem with wirdly painted keys on my HP laptop. Thanks.

could you do an video showing how to uninstall keyboard layouts?
I'm a bit confused. Why does the shift states in the pop up menu claim "shift", "ctrl+alt" and "shift+ctrl+alt" as shift states. While the left pane in the main window under "shift states:" says "shift", "alt+ctrl", "ctrl". One says "shift+ctrl+alt" is a shift state while the other not and the other says "ctrl" is a shift state while the other not... Any clue?

Never mind :) , after 10min I found the answer, you just uninstall it like any other app from the system

Why during building DLL and setup package is it writing: "There was a problem building keyboard file"??? Help, anyone!
Every time to instal it i get the message "this requires the .NET Framework version 3.5. Please instal the .NET Framework and run this setup again. Whats it even talking about and will downloading this mess something else up on my pc?

Doenst work. When i wanna save it, i get another popup screen. He doenst save mine as a 'keyboard' but as an '.KLC. file. I cant seem to get it right.

I don't have this option "Choose an input method to always use as default". The language options menu looks the same except it doesn't have that.
I can't press "Build DLL and Setup Package" with the download you provided (the updated one).
Is there a way to do that?

Whenever i make a keyboard layout and try to select the keyboard type in the right of my taskbar, its not there. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Microsoft takes down all the files that manipulates keyboard changes. Upload the installer from a mega or drive cause neither this link or any other video is available.

Hi and thank you for this video it’s very good and clear.
I used it to do create a custom keyboard in Swedish. There is a Windows Swedish version I had already installed, that adds some letters but then also takes away some functions that used to be there, e.g. “ ( ) ? / etc. I could never find them on the Swedish version, so I put them in convenient locations in the Swedish custom under Shift + Ctrl. My problem is that it does not work in Word 2007 that I use, just works as the usual Swedish keyboard, but nothing new happens when I use the Shift+Ctrl, even though Swedish Custom is selected. However, the custom additions work fine now using the simple Notepad, but not word….
Word is where I need it though…I have checked under my window’s settings and it is showing the Swedish Custom (I deleted the original Swedish per your advice) and the English US which I use as default.
Since the custom changes work in Notepad, I don’t think my keyboard is defective.
I run Windows 10 (32bit) and MS Office 2007. I tried a repair of MS office 2007 (not uninstall and re-install), but the problem is still there. Any ideas on a solution to get the custom keyboard to work in Word?

You might try to remap them with another key then Ctrl+Shift like Alt+Ctrl. Some programs already use the Ctrl key for functions and it might conflict, but the Ctrl+Alt combination is used to add characters on many keyboard (like the French Canadian that I use). and won't conflict.
I write a lot of stuff in binary and the 1 and 0 keys are way too far apart
also is there a way to mak a key have the same function as escape
when i was done editing the properties i pressed ok and it didnt show the Save As window
i do not get the option to choose this imput method as deafult

No, I don't think this is what you are looking for. Look into a program called "reWASD" it may get you going in the right direction.

How can we remap the ´ characters ? Like, i want to type é but when i try to assign the ´ to another key, i get ´e. How can i resolve this?

Hey, thank you for watching.. unfortunately Microsoft has removed the software and it seems that mine does not work either... you may be able to find the software elsewhere online, in which case my tutorial will work fine for you.. I can not link to these other sites as I can not confirm the authenticity.

I downloaded the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator but it’s telling me it needs .net Framework ver 3.5 installed which I can’t find.
My PC had a 4. Something version already installed but the software is Apparently not backwards compatible.
Was needing to assign a few more characters in a Language keyboard for Hebrew and I’ve not found another solution.

You may need to Uninstall your existing .net framework. If you get the keyboard creator working i will be very surprised and would love to hear how.
I have tried getting it to work since they removed it but to no avail.
There may be some other, less prevalent software that can be used, on which I am not familiar.
@@GeneralHowToTutorials Thanks! I was able to get it installed, and I think I got a successful keyboard created, but I got stuck with my test keyboard on, and had to uninstall it.
I found a solution for my Hebrew problem in the meantime, so I don’t have an immediate need to “reinvent the wheel” and learn all the ins and outs of MSKeyboard layout Creator.
I’m not sure why it worked for me as opposed to others, except fervent prayers by many. My system lately has had a ton of Gremlins in it, and doesn’t work like it’s supposed to.
I have a Lenovo that a friend had to install a new hard drive in last fall. He loaded just the basic Windows 10 onto it. We lost everything a few yrs ago in a flood, so my ancient Microsoft Office is gone, and I’ve slowly (rural WiFI SLoooow) been loading programs on it was their need arises. I just made the switch from notepad to LibreOffice for word processing. I was making due with Inkscape and notepad as I’m a graphic artist.
I would be happy to try and supply more specific info if you have specific questions on settings etc, but you may have to walk me through things. I used to work WITH programmers, but my mind doesn’t work like it used to...lol.

Solution for my Hebrew problem that brought me here, in case others need it.
I have found a font that I like, with a specific Dalet shape and foreign Language Keyboard (allows onscreen or Physical keyboard entry) that will allow for the easiest phonetical typing on QWERTY (English keyboard layout) on Windows 10 PCs including with free software like LibreOffice...because it uses Unicode for the foreign languages, which offers best cross-platform viewing!

Unfortunately Microsoft quit hosting their files, what I have provided myself does not seem to be everything that is needed. If you are able to find the proper files online and get the method shown here to work please let me know so I can share with everyone. I am sorry I can not be more helpful. This video is outdated. This video was very helpful . I need to re-map my keyboard with several key combinations . As a example, when press 'S+D' It should shows 'A'. How do I create such that kind of key combinations. Please anyone with the knowledge , kindly request your help.

If you want to change the keyboard on Android it is through the settings. You could probably download a new keyboard layout on the play store.
When I run MSKLC.exe it gives me a warning that says:
"You seem to be missing a critical file : '.\inc\basetsd.h'.
If you continue loading, you will be unable to build keyboards.
Do you wish to continue?"
If I continue it opens the program and I can load existing keyboards, change the keys and create the .klc file, but I cannot click on Build DLL and Setup Package.
Is there a way to fix this?
It's possible to use 2 keyboard same time? custome layout keyboard and standard keyboard side by side..

Hi, is there a way to show the number pad for remapping numbers on larger keyboards? All other remap programs seem to show it but its nowhere to be found in the MKLC..

Great Video! I have a Keyboard where the fn key must be pressed to get the function keys F1-F12 . Can I remap so that the default is F1-F12 and using the Fn key I would get to the media keys?
I suspect this would not be possible, since the OS isn't supposed to see the Fn key:

unfortunately Microsoft removed the program from their site. And it seems that my new link doesn't work so well either (works like half way) but I am working on a new way of accomplishing this. theres a different way to access it now, you click at the top of the page where it says "keyboard" then it takes you to the same menue

You should be able to achieve that by clicking on the "ctrl" shift-states button

There are some alternatives but this is the best way to do it as the software is created by Microsoft so it is safe and more reliable.

I use one that's called "AutoHotkey"
but it doesn't work in some games.... sadly.
