This ride has a little bit of everything: Disney style knockoff scenes, random cheap jump scares, a guy In an electric chair, and a buggy that could REALLY use some wheel grease.
Judging from what I've seen on youtube so far, this is still the best ghost train ride outside of a Disney park. It looked much better in the late 80s when I last rode it, they have added too much cheap stuff (jump scares) in the meantime. It's great to hear that the ballroom piano melody is still there. I must have rode that ride a dozen times just to memorize that melody (I even wrote a letter to Europa Park asking about sheet music for that piece, but back then they couldn't provide any). And the actual lighting isn't as bright as it appears in this video, so the atmosphere is actually slightly more haunting when you ride Geisterschloss.
Efteling's spookslot looks better but it's not really a ghost train ride. Also see Transdemonium, it was ghost train ride in Parc Astérix. It was goot but not as famous as it should have be. (the storyline is about Jehan de Ténèbres, with his puppet sidekick Mario, who is tasked with imprisoning spirits and ghosts and entertain them by bringing humans into a castle to prevent the Apocalypse of the Year 1000)
At leats it's not Phantasialand's Geisterrikscha. :> (Though that one only has the same ride system.) I was in Europapark three years ago around christmas. Geisterschloss is a nice ride, but a lot of scenes are overcrowded with props. According to some long term visitors, the ride was also softened up a lot and the addition of the cast from Happy Family is clashing with the overall theming, too.
@Jimmy Starbeck I’ve always wanted to go to the other Disney parks in the world. I’ve been to Anaheim and Orlando a few times. I still love the original park the most.
The original Disney ride is more themed and well thought out imo. This was like cramming all the scarey things you can possibly think of and throwing it in. The monsters and ghosts were too overcrowded it didn’t even give you a chance to get spooked out.
It's pretty clear where they got the inspiration from :) , and its a pretty good job, but they could've put the song-and-dance number further towards the end.
I absolutely love this. It’s like when people try to recreate the haunted mansion on roller coaster tycoon, but only use a couple mods that actually match the ride. Im promising myself that I will go out of my to ride it if I ever find myself in Germany.
I loved it when I was a kid and even now but I do think it really hasn't aged well of today technology of dark ride. The animatronics need upgrading not the theme or setting of the ride just make it a bit scarier than it is now.
Unfortunately great Animatronics are hugely expensive, so Europa Park had to use a mix of good and average animatronics even on their flagship dark ride „Pirates in Batavia“ . That is, unfortunately, the difference between a park with 6 Mio/year visitors and $60 tickets and one with more than 20 million visitors and $110 tickets.
Honestly this intrigued me more than haunted mansion does because it's more Gorey and such. Some more updated effects and quicker paced animatronics and they'll be amazing for sure! Some of the animatronics could certainly use updates but for the most part not bad at all!
I think it takes more than quick animatronics, though. The brilliance of Disney's Haunted Mansion is its simplicity. The dancing ghosts in the haunted ballroom there are ancient, and don't even move themselves - they are just unmoving mannequins on a turntable, but the use of Pepper's Ghost and other basic stage magic tricks make them feel 'alive.' Watching this ridethrough I was struck by how overwhelming it was. Horror is in many ways what you don't see, not what you do see. This attraction left nothing to the imagination. The Haunted Mansion has a hall of doorways with cries and screams coming from the other side of them. What's behind them? You have to imagine. Here, they showed what's on the other side of them - and then some! There was no downtime, no moment of darkness where something could go 'bump.' Haunted Mansion also excels at building towards the climax. Here you start and are immediately faced with, like, skeletons. Disney's pace is slower. You get hints of something evil lurking in the house, but it's either invisible or hinted at with shadows, footsteps, and portraits that change when thunder strikes. The first 'ghost' only shows up about halfway through the ride, leading to the climax of the graveyard scene. This ride was like the graveyard scene all the way through, there was no build, no anticipation. I agree that this was gorier, and I think having a gorier haunted mansion-style attraction could be interesting for people who like that sort of thing. But at least in my opinion, for something like this to do that it needs a complete redo.
@@toadster464 Because every haunted ride is a knock off of the haunted mansion? This looks completly different. Yes there are some stolen elements, but the overall ride is not comparable in the slightest. Disney fans always try to label everything as 'stolen from disney'
@@QDude24 Calm down. Nobody is implying that it literally copied the Haunted Mansion. Its an omnimover ride and the cars are similar so people will compare. Maybe this ride got inspired by the Mansion ride.
The track and carriages of this ride look almost exactly the same as those of Phantom Phantasia, a dark ride that was at Thorpe Park in the UK in the 80s to 90s (ish). The track is running in the opposite direction here, but I'm pretty sure it's the same layout.
The ride system also reminds me of the now recently defunct “Wheels” red pod dark ride about motor car history within the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire in Southern England.
Well Ghost Castle has a few details that are a bit similar to the Haunted Mansion’s scenes like the stretching room, the doombuggies, the three ghostly mirrors, the ballroom, and the singing busts in the graveyard. It’s quite amazing. 🏰👻
Germans know how to do camp well And you can tell they ripped Disney off a bit lol. The singing busts. But if you’re going to steal. Steal from the best.
Haunted houses are fun. Why don't they have an intern with a giant can of WD40 zap all the wheels and mechanisms? It would be simple and FIXED. Haunted ghouls with no humor is just dreary. Marc Davis was right with Disney's Haunted Mansion. I want to see ghosts having fun and socializing in the afterlife. Electrocutions and ghastly torture chambers are not my idea of a family friendly ride that is cool and neat to ride. It is just depressing. Their doom buggies were far more elaborate and interesting. I think Efteling has some contenters for great dark rides though.

It actually took a lot of Inspiration from Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, it has the elevator / stretching room concept, a ballroom, singing busts. So it is indirectly copying it and while it's definitely not on par with other attractions i still like it for the nostalgia.

Somebody oil those gears! Haunted Mansion's track sounds like a sort of hiss, whereas this sounds like torturing pterodactyl hatchlings.
Looks like a fever dream mash up of the haunted mansion, pirates of the Caribbean, with some gore thrown in.

Neat. Track and buggies seriously need oiled though. I'm sure without the squeaking the atmosphere is even more wonderful.
