How to pack your miniatures for shipping

- This one was suggested by one of my customers who has received many undamaged miniatures from me through the mail. My success rate isn't 100% but my failures always mean that I've learned something about getting minis from here to there.

Glad you found this helpful. I did this video a year and a half ago and I don't think I've changed anything I've done in terms of packaging since then and I've only had a single incident of a broken mini.
Started playing miniature games a couple years ago, sending my first set of minis out to be painted soon and this video is still highly valuable. The solution is simple, it's just not something I've ever done before so I didn't know were to start. Thanks!
I'm happy that people find it useful. I did the video because one of my customers suggested it since he'd had bad experiences in the past and I guess I'd hit on something that really worked.

How would you protect rank and file trays (in my case from Runwars Miniatures Game) with sand and pointy rocks sticking up off of them?
If you're taking requests on videos, Jay, something on magnetising figures might be worthwhile - drill bits to use, ball/socket joints vs flat joins, how to stop pieces rotating due to gravity, how to judge the right size/strength of magnet to use, etc.
Okay. I'll put that on the list. I think I'd need to pick up a variety of magnets before I could do it and some of those questions I don't really have good answers to except that "I try to see if it works" kinds of answers.
what is the best way to wrap 100+ minis and things like cavalry and tanks in the same box?

Might want to rethink about how the packing film heats up and sucks in! It could damage the model. taking it out will also be a hassle.

Thx for the video! This is only one i can find on this topic. Sadly, i need to ship about 200 models - plastic and metal - so wrapping every model in cellophane seems wasteful and very time-consuming

I've been dealing with primarily the USPS for decades without any issues created by them. They are my recommendation.
Interesting idea, thanks. Aren't they a total pain to unwrap at the other end though?
David Stretch Nobody has complained about it and they are only lightly wrapped so it's just a matter of finding the end and unrolling it. in the end if everything arrived safely a little extra time unpacking is worth the effort don't you think?
And this is why "Shipping & Handling" might be more than expected. It takes time!
So clingy and statically charged wrapping straight up against the model?
I wouldn't have dared do that, I have to admit.
I mostly use bubble wrap to protect the model itself, then newspapers packed tightly around it to prevent it from moving within the box.

I've got a hundred 28mm Prussian musketeers at shoulder-arms to pack and send. All those fragile bayonets sticking up in the air! I'll be giving this a try for sure. I probably want to wrap so that an air bubble forms around the figure's head and the musket barrel/bayonet sticking up above the head.
If they are plastic then the important thing is to make sure that the plastic wrap extends generously past the bayonets. If they're metal then you'd ALSO want to make sure that they are very thoroughly wrapped with a lot of plastic wrap.
@@JayAdan Most are plastic thankfully. Those that are metal are generally in more robust poses. Arty gunners etc.
Yeah I was wondering about this also, I have a lot of Tyranid models that stick up everywhere.. So thanks for the advice of making sure the plastic wrap extends past those points.
Would this still be the best way of packing 30 units in a box or even hundreds?
It really comes down to weight. With single plastic models like infantry units I don't think that there's a real upper limit to the number you can do. The plastic is there to keep the models from scraping the paint off of one-another and they don't really weigh enough on their own to damage each other if they're wrapped. The real question comes when you're doing larger things like vehicles or special characters with delicate bits. In those cases they might go in their own box so that they are less likely to be damaged.

What would you recommend for 2 items plastic and remainder is metal?
I would put the plastic items into their own smaller box to protect them from the weight of the metal items. If there's a lot of metal ones I would probably put groups of those into smaller boxes as well.

Plastic packaging film is the worst idea. I watched your video and did as told. Once the miniature model gets wrapped up. eventually the film sucks in. making it harder to take out. Do not recommend.
It's obviously going to be harder to remove than to apply. I've been doing this for years wrapping hundreds of minis and I've never received a complaint about it. In fact it was a customer that suggested that I let others know how I do this.
