[Verse 1] This is the sound of a soul in tune To a savage desire for a soul made new It's a savage desire for a soul untamed A definitive cry in the present age [Pre-Chorus] Do I throw my clothes in the fire? Do I throw my hopes in the fire? Do those things grow in the fire Or burn just to keep me complying? Can you still show me the way? Can you still show me a light? 'Cause I was only a kid when I fell and you tossed me aside, hey [Chorus] What can I do if the fire goes out? 'Cause I don't know if I can live without [Verse 2] I wanna taste and see if the Lord is good I wanna know if I'm heard and if I'm understood See the savage desire is some stupid thing Or if having desire is summoned deep within [Pre-Chorus] Do I throw my clothes in the fire? Do I throw my hopes in the fire? Do those things grow in the fire Or burn just to keep me alive? Can you still show me the way? Can you still show me a light? 'Cause I was only a kid when I fell and you left me behind, oh [Instrumental break] [Chorus] What can I do if the fire goes out? 'Cause I don't know if I can live without
This song deserves WAY more attention. Easily my favourite song of 2017. Its just so beautiful, and happy, and sad at the same time. Amazing, can't wait to see you guys live again!
As someone in 2020 this resounds so much more now, after the fires and the pandemic and so much death I really understand the loss of hope this song is portraying
I met this band in 2019, they were oppening a concert for Mumford & Sons. Since the first time I heard THIS particular song, it was a total hit to my brain
Every once in a while I come across a song, that remembers me of her. It's normally a subtle feeling, from only a small passage. But this one hit deep. An all out attack on my heart.
This is the sound of a soul in tune To the selfish desire for a soul mate who It's a selfish desire for a soul untamed That definitive cry in the present age Do I throw my clothes in the fire? Do I throw my hopes in the fire? Do those things grow in the fire Or burn just to keep me compliant? Can you still show me a way? Can you still show me a life? 'Cause I was only a kid When I felt you tossed me aside, hey What can I do if the fire goes out? 'Cause I don't know if I can live without I want a taste to see if the Lord is good I want to know if I'm hurt and if I'm understood See if the selfish desire's some stupid thing Or if heaven desires something deep within Do I throw my clothes in the fire? Do I throw my hopes in the fire? Do those things grow in the fire Or burn just to keep me alive? Can you still show me a way? Can you still show me a life? 'Cause I was only a kid When I felt you left me behind, oh What can I do if the fire goes out? 'Cause I don't know if I can live without
I was left behind by my parents when I was 17 but then I begged them to take me back because I love my family and I didn't want to be alone it was wrong because they didn't know how to treat me right they didn't know what I meant by wanting to come back they at least took me somewhere else where they were not around and I made friends but those friends did not last and it's an ongoing thing to make a life for myself at 63
Past the feelings of being discarded and towards the feeling of being what are you going to do when you see what it means to be discarded he is so true like me I see the truth and from what I said before the truth is that your truth is anchored in the soul of the parents that discarded you...elusive as where your mother is the day after she dies...
Just discovered this amazing song, kind of sound like the love child of the killers and arcade fire. If you love the guitar in this song as much as I do check out Explosions in the Sky, First Breath After Coma a good place to start.
Anybody know where that guitar tune is originally from? ahh its in the back of my head but I can't remember the songs name. All I remember is that one of the lyrics is a lady singing "home is where the heart is"
YEP there is a reason why this hasn't gotten any thumbs down... it's a fucking great song. I have been a fan of Gang of Youths since the beginning and i am so proud of how far they have come. The second album is gonna be a ripper
I feel like in the 80s or 90s this would have been very big. The band is verytalented. People just don't appreciate good music today sadly. They would rather listen to garbage than real musicians in 2018.
Like the altar of incense before the holy of holy‘s in the Jerusalem Temple, we are meant to smolder at all times. Flame burns bright, but it destroys the sweet smell of smoldering incense. Only the spirit can determine whether we burn or smolder. Your enemies may make you burn it as a martyr 1 time. The Holy Spirit would have you smolder every day of your life thru A prayerful existence.
i loved this song till i knew it was about god, no disrespect to believers but i think this song has a truth in life beyond god to me. like your passion or drive is your fire, when you lose it can it be reignited and can you find more drive or purpose. when i was younger i was more temperamental but learned to be more accommodating. i think that to conform is a misktake and you should find people that see your fire and watch it grow.
antixo - this has nothing to do with god. “It’s about empathy, finding humanness and trying to negotiate the sickness of soul as a millennial with no clue.” They have said in multiple interviews that this song is about trying to reignite your passion for something when you are lost.
fair enough, i just googled on fire and the result i got was when someone is going really good with the lord. glad to hear the song has aspects of what i thought it was about because it makes the song a lot more powerful to me and resonates with me also. thanks for the clarification.
I've only heard two songs from these guys but god the Y E A R N I N G
Just wait till you're obsessed with em all🙃
That. That's the feeling I couldn't place
Lmao dark academia reference
It's the drumming that gets me.............wow!
Gang of youths would be way more popular if they came out in early to mid 2000's

Thanks you for posting the lyrics!
This song deserves WAY more attention. Easily my favourite song of 2017. Its just so beautiful, and happy, and sad at the same time. Amazing, can't wait to see you guys live again!
I'm leaning towards "Let me down easy tonight" but yeah, this is awesome . . .
Same dude. You voting in the Triple J's Hottest 100? My #1 is Second hand car by Kim Churchill. hbu?
It goes for too long and it has unnecessary sections. I'm working on an edit and video that I'll be posting shortly.
So tru has to be one of my fav songs ever. Still so in love with it no matter how many times I hear it.
It proves your point when British radio stations are saying "the best new band from 2018".
HOW ARE THESE GUYS NOT THE BIGGEST THING IN THE WORLD!?!
SERUOUSLY!
As someone in 2020 this resounds so much more now, after the fires and the pandemic and so much death I really understand the loss of hope this song is portraying
Just heard this song on rage, honestly amazing. It's one of those songs I'll just listen to on repeat in the middle of the night.
I met this band in 2019, they were oppening a concert for Mumford & Sons. Since the first time I heard THIS particular song, it was a total hit to my brain
I came here after NBT but I just descovery a beautiful and touching piece of art by yourself. Congrats BofY
This song hit me right in the heart everytime I hear it. It's beautiful.
I saw this live two nights ago. They killed it and totally blew the venue to pieces. So epic
Struggles with my faith is why this song resonates with me so much.
Its a shame you aren't more popular.
Every once in a while I come across a song, that remembers me of her. It's normally a subtle feeling, from only a small passage.
But this one hit deep.
An all out attack on my heart.
My favourite song of all time by far.
My favourite song of theirs. Energy energy energy. LOVE it. In my top 10!
I feel like my fire went out and I think that I really can't live without it

the best song honestly, took me places I’ve never been before ❤️
why is this band not more recognised? Strong lyrics, great music and a connection to real life.
they won album of the year at the arias?
Man, these guys are going to be huge.
this is the most brilliant song i've ever listened.
Just need to find more songs like this please
Great band, live shows unbelievable they could be playing for 2 people or 20,000 rock it out. This was the final song, great one.
Beginning has an old Bloc Party vibe. This guys are awesome!
Jon Ruiz Olazabal - not as good as Matt Chung but I get where your coming from
The whole song sounds like it could easily fit on silent alarm. Such a tune
I Seen this played by Nothing But Thieves, it was an Awesome cover!
Conor's performance was awesome.
I went into a surf shop a few hours ago and this was playing through the speakers, I never shazam'd a song so fast before aha loving that lead 🙌💯
Spectacular. I get worried when I see the pop music these days as its shot to bits. But this is proof that real music really still exists.
JFC the riff is out of this world!
What do we do when the power's out?
You jump start that shit with all you got. You only get one great Love in your lifetime.
what do we do when the lights go down?
Trip switch
Finally, real stars, real music, they have arrived!
I found the band thru Achilles come down like most of you but this is my favorite song by them
I was left behind by my parents when I was 17 but then I begged them to take me back because I love my family and I didn't want to be alone it was wrong because they didn't know how to treat me right they didn't know what I meant by wanting to come back they at least took me somewhere else where they were not around and I made friends but those friends did not last and it's an ongoing thing to make a life for myself at 63

i have a feeling this song is vaguely about the vestal virgins but i can’t be sure
I can’t stop thinking about that now!
Who discovered this band watching the NRL grand final??
I gotta say this song and band are Incredible
Past the feelings of being discarded and towards the feeling of being what are you going to do when you see what it means to be discarded he is so true like me I see the truth and from what I said before the truth is that your truth is anchored in the soul of the parents that discarded you...elusive as where your mother is the day after she dies...
What is this? Cuz I've found lately I associate every song with my mom who passed b4 I was ten
Jesus loves you bro I pray for you to find the truth your heart yearns for! ❤️❤️❤️
What an intro
Incredible.

All I remember is that one of the lyrics is a lady singing "home is where the heart is"
Hmm no clue. That line kinda makes me think of Heart of Nowhere by Noah and the Whale, which this band kinda gives the same vibe of but I don’t know.
Rivers and roads has that line
YEP there is a reason why this hasn't gotten any thumbs down... it's a fucking great song. I have been a fan of Gang of Youths since the beginning and i am so proud of how far they have come. The second album is gonna be a ripper
Ruby Milne you never say that because someone always goes out to give a video a thumbs down if they see a comment like this.
This song is so calming to me
Dmas and these wow the Aussies have got the sounds

thanks to my oed teacher for this
It sounds like an older song from another band. I just can't think of it.
I throw my marshmallows on the fire
This song sounds identical to an older song from the last ten years but I can’t put my finger on it
Reminds me of some of Arcade Fire's works
through the fire and the flames
It's got a bit of a Bloc Party feel to it
I worked it out! It’s “When you were young” by The Killers
EXACTLY!
i loved this song till i knew it was about god, no disrespect to believers but i think this song has a truth in life beyond god to me. like your passion or drive is your fire, when you lose it can it be reignited and can you find more drive or purpose. when i was younger i was more temperamental but learned to be more accommodating. i think that to conform is a misktake and you should find people that see your fire and watch it grow.
