- My first attempt at a slide show. Pics from the last three years as we restore/rebuild a 1973 Ford Capri MK1 on our lunch hour(s) at the Eastwood Company. Many new products were developed and tested on this car. Hope to have it in paint Summer of 2014
I cant believe it!!! In 1978 I built a 73 Capri EXACTLY like this one. Hats off to the guys at Eastwood . The comment that said they wanted it as someone would build in the 70's is perfect. If I had a picture of my car you would think they just restored my car. The only thing missing is the rubber skirt on the air dam :) Nice job guys!!!
thanks!!!! I have the rubber skirt, just a little too low for Pennsylvania roads. I drive the heck out of it, just like I did in 1983!
I also had a '73 2600 from 1981 to 1986, growing up in So Cal(San Diego area), was familiar with Dobi in Brea CA(it was about 30 minutes south of Los Angeles). Saved my pennies one summer and a buddy and I borrowed my dad's Chevy van a went to Dobi and bought about almost a $1000 of parts for my car(that grand would buy a LOT of stuff back then). I got the headers, Offy intake, Holley 390 carb, their "street cam"(which was an Isky unit) and an entire suspension kit(coils, leafs, both sway bars, all the bushing and struts/shocks). After rebuilding the 2600 with TRW 9.0:1 forged pistons and a steel/alloy timing set(the original timing set was a nylon toothed upper timing gear which was prone to cracking with higher mileage engines), man that little Capri could smoke a new Mustang GT, Camaro Z-28 and even a 911 Porsche(we're talking around 1983 or so). I pinned the speedometer on several occasions(speedo went to 140MPH), but not sure how accurate the speedo was LOL. Unfortunately I crashed the poor thing in the summer of 1986(racing a friend in his souped up '74 Capri 2800) and had a string of Capris up until the mid 90s. Would love to find another Mark 1 Capri, but they're getting so pricey and aren't usually in good shape.Love your Capri! Only thing I would change is putting on some 13X7 Ford FAVO RS 4 spoke replica wheels with 205/60-13 tires and drop the ride height just a tad, or perhaps some 15" Minilite replica wheels with 195 or 205 50 15 tires, you need some lip on your rims brotha! IMHO
love those old Capri fords, wish I still had my 77 capri ghia 2.8. Had a lot of fun in that car!

Beautiful m8 :) Take it from me this was /is like the UK's Mustang and indeed Europes Mustang - I know you guys had them over there and I think the Mk 2 was called the Mercury Capri - lovely restoration I've owned the odd Capri all Mk's but only with 1.6 and 2 litre Pinto engines but they still have some "go" in them I love the looks the lines such a nice shape :) I hope Ford re-introduce the Capri very soon because it's in high demand

the plan was to build a "day two car", meaning I was trying to be very authentic to what someone would have built after they bought the car in the 70s. the flares are nos aftermarket parts by a California company called dobi. but at the end of the day, it's all a matter of preference. thanks for the post.

Looks like the one I saw for sale In Jeffersonville at star Transmission about 9-10 years ago.....I owned one from about 1978 till 82(?)...

well, i aint the one who desined these horrible fender flares. not like there was a shit ton to chose from, from boxy to a simple T cut and fender job.

Wannabe muscle car
When I bought my Capri I could have bought a couple of muscle cars instead. I love muscle cars but I do not regret my decision one bit.
If you want to drop some muscle in this car it is very easy to do and you will be blowing the doors off of muscle cars.
That said, it is NOT what the engineers had in mind. They designed it for handling, and then Cosworth dropped a killer engine in it.
The South African 302 destroyed the competition as well.
