  • This late Mk1 Capri came to us as an older restoration in need of metalwork.
    We have replaced both A posts, one front wing, both sills and an entire rear quarter panel. Numerous repairs were carried out in other areas too such as the edge of the floor and scuttle corners.
    The video follows the reassembly of the car after receiving an external repaint and heavy coat of waxoil. A new headliner and vinyl roof are also fitted during this process.
    With the car mostly complete and running it was then returned to the customer where they will complete the last bit of assembly work and put the car thorough an MOT.

    I am 68yrs old now, I had this same model with the long nose bonnet, Daytona yellow, with brown mottled roof covering, bucket seats, Sold way back then to a student who had only just passed his test, and he wrapped round a lamppost, oh how I wish....

    Except for the rims and the steering being on the wrong side, that Capri looks exactly like the one my father used to bring me and my mom back from the hospital. Maybe that's why I have such a soft-spot for this car. Still some of the sexiest lines on any car, ever.

    That's pukka, my mum had a 1600GXL auto in the same Daytona yellow with black vinyl roof. The young lad doing the build looks as young as we were back in the late 70's doing our Mk II Cortina's and Mk1 Escorts...happy days.

    I'm into the mk3, and working on these cars ain't no 5 minute job. I have spent so much time getting these cars to look the business. Bus it's all worth it from reactions out on the road... When finished.

    Bringing back some super memories got mine in 1980 BXC 330K 3000E Daytona yellow, black vinyl/sunroof 6" front 7" back wolfrace wheels with Daytona yellow on the inner sections, was well known in Corby at the time.

    Nice job! Makes me realise it will be a hard job to restore mine :) I woud've picked another color then that yellow, but that's personal taste :)

      Every car is different & though the colour isn't for everybody' choice it certainly makes the car stand out.

      Mid Beds Vehicle Restoration indeed, it does stand out :) mine is a prefacelift one. I'm thinking to do it in dark blue, or red with the cliché black bonnet. This video surely helped for me to see how some parts are assembled!

      That's THE color. Me old man got this one in 73. Just with the 2.3 Cologne engine and the steering wheel on the correct side. Was a very fine car. I had a 78 2.0S (V6) nearly 20 years later. Always had a soft spot for a Capri. Don't know why.

    Not a restoration in my eyes just a speed up resto with music and no interaction would have liked seen some more human involvement with your viewers

    Stunning job guys. The Mk1 was the best looking Capri imo. If it was mine, I think I would have slightly bigger multi spoke wheels on it though, but that would be the only change to what is otherwise a perfect looking example.

    There should be a chrome strip where the black bottom meets the yellow I just checked my old photos as I had 6 off these back in the day also the steering wheel looks wrong all my facelifts had the leather Ford ones with the padded middle leather bit as well

    • @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045
      @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045  6 років тому

      There actually is a chrome strip there John but it isn't very noticeable in the video; you're right in assuming it has them though. The steering wheel wasn't an item we were asked to address so it has the wheel on it that it came in with.

    Hi there them panels from express panels , how are they ? Do they fit mint and line up everywhere ? As I’m thinking of buying some for my Capri but I know there very expensive

    • @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045
      @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045  6 років тому

      The rear wing fits very well Jamie; the A post repairs not so well but we think they're made to fit over the originals rather than replace them. We always do the latter so we adapt them to do the job properly if this is the case. They are expensive & the waiting time for some panels can be a good few months but we've used a lot of panels from Ex Pressed for different Fords & in the main they're good if you accept they're not genuine so need fettling.

    My -69 Capri 1600 GT had a"faux" vinyl roof from the factory; the roof was painted with vinyl-looking paint and two strips of "seams" were glued on. That is actually better than real vinyl roof as it will not rot the metal under it. It was red with that black "vinyl roof". A nice car but interesting to drive in the winter as opposite lock had to be started almost before the slide started. The rear window froze from inside in the beginning of the winter and thawed in the spring...

    Excellent job ! However if I was the customer , I would spray it liquid silver metallic , put on black conical rear view mirrors on the fenders and black and silver similar rims that is on there.I guess some customers would want to stick to originality. Anyways that's absolutely beautiful what you guys have done with this restoration.

    Why did you choose to replace the whole rear quarter panel?

    • @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045
      @midbedsvehiclerestoration3045  6 років тому +1

      The nearside rear quarter panel had already been badly repaired & was full of body filler. It also had corrosion around the rear lower section & where it met the sill at the front. Given the amount of repair work needed to bring it to a suitable condition & the fact that the inner arch had also corroded out the quickest & best option was to change the whole quarter. This also allowed us to change the outer section of the inner wheel tub too effectively taking out all the corrosion & panel distortion from that area.
