A few things to clear up. 1) for everyone saying this song is sad because they “can’t go to hogwarts” I think that’s extremely ignorant of the true lyrical and musical genius of this song and it is a disgrace to it. It was a wonderful inclusion to Harry Potter but you are missing the point of the song if that’s all you care about. 2) this song isn’t about the Holocaust but instead a man reflecting upon his life right before the moment of his death. The frequent reference of “o children” is him telling them about his regrets and asking them to live a life of happiness and meaning “rejoice rejoice”. The outro is the culmination of the tension which had been building in the song. The man finally let’s go, and metaphorically, hops on the train to the kingdom (death). It is a beautiful moment of a man reflecting upon his life, his regrets and finally his journey to the kingdom. I beg you all to truly appreciate the lyrics of this masterpiece and understand it in detail, not just cry because you “want to go to hogwarts”.
i mean i don't really think it's ignorant. that's where people know the song from, so they automatically associate it with hp. i wouldn't really expect everyone to search up the true meaning behind the song (which is ofc super valuable). everyone interprets things in a different way, so if they want to cry because they want to go to hogwarts, that's perfectly fine. it doesn't mean they don't care about the true meaning of the song. at the end of the day, it's just good that it got the recognition it deserves largely due to hp.

I acknowledge the HP series is excellent and that this song was brilliant in it, but you are not doing the song justice if that’s all it means to you.

It is about the holocaust, specifically the children in the holocaust and what they went through. Such as being used as lab rats, and objects for Nazi soldiers to use whenever they pleased.
