The way they talk about him, you can feel how much these amazingly talented women love and trust Lynch. It is such a big difference from all the ugliness in the Hollywood.
I like how positive their experiences were with him. I never liked the notion of directors being rude/unreasonable with their actors for ‘the sake of the art’ and meanwhile you have David being really positive to his cast while even when making his really bizarre and disturbing stuff

Nothing has made me happier in the past 20 years than seeing the popular culture acceptance of David Lynch and Werner Herzog as truly original human beings.
Yeah, but David Lynch seems to be a very nice, positive and easier-to-like guy when compared to Werner Herzog. Of course W.H. is not negative either, just somehow he has that kind of intense energy which can be intimidating at times.
I can’t imagine how crazy his way of directing makes actors. Patricia Arquette is a powerhouse on camera. Lost highway is one of Lynch’s most abstract films. I can’t imagine what not knowing your characters stories is like. Especially when you’re playing two different people that are connected in a weird way like they are in lost highway.
just wait to see inland empire , I still to this day don't know how David and Laura Dern pull that out , its a miracle that movie even works one of my favorites too !!! its like lost highway and Mulholland drive but on crack .
You did not see much of Lynch if your think Lost Highway is abstract. It's almost a teen drama comparing to his other movies like Inland Empire or Eraserhead.
@@sunderland69 I’ll give you inland empire, but Eraserhead is much easier to understand. The images are surreal but the story beats and themes are concrete. I can’t say as much about lost Highway. If you view the movie a mobius strip it clears it up a tiny bit. The thematic elements are still lost in my subconscious somewhere. I’ve watched it so many times now that it’s kind of revealed itself a bit but I still find it too dense in the abstract. Lynch is one of my favorite filmmakers.

I don't think he's so enigmatic as he's just creative and inventive, funny and weird. All in good ways. The way he describes use of electricity pretty much comes down to he just likes the atmosphere it creates. Not even metaphorical. Just likes it.
Patricia and Balthazar in that desert scene is one of the most romantic and sensual movie scenes ever (set to "Song to the Siren" nonetheless). To watch it is to never forget it.

I would have loved to see Laura Helena in this interview as well. But I love Naomi’s impersonation of him, and had no idea of how much input Patricia had in how Rene and Alice should look like, from their clothes and hair to even their nail colors, amazing wow, great visuals and collaboration! Laura D was amazing in Inland Empire! I hope David could do another film where all his divas could be together, Laura Helena, Naomi, Laura D, and Patricia, and it should either be called City of Angels as a cover-up name for a very twisted, dark, disturbing and sinister plot! And Chrysta Bell should be singing all the songs on the soundtrack!
I could imagine David Lynch removing all preconceptions of a typical Hollywood film. This takes the tension off the set for actors. It’s probably like being in the 60’s during the French New Wave. A camera man in a shopping cart or no four hour set ups. Do unconventional things. Lynch allows the actors to be themselves and have the freedom to just act crazy.
