    You sir are a gift from heaven !! I'm taking a class in texturing and rendering in my school and the teacher keeps makes me even more confused about the UV unwrapping process. I learned a lot here in 15 minutes about the WHY and not just how to do each step of the unwrapping process. Thank you a ton!

    I'm not sure whether you'll ever read this comment but as a student learning maya and mudbox, I'm really extremely grateful for all the videos you've made so far. First of all, they look really great and secondly, the way u help me understand by breaking things down has helped me so so much. There were times where I hit many problems in maya and I didnt understand until I watched your videos. There were times where I felt like giving up but watching your awesome videos are a motivation. THANK YOU SO much!

    Just started working with Maya recently; yours is the first UV tutorial I've found gets straight to the point instead of going off on tangents or has the narrator doing their best impression of a blackout-drunk Ben Stein.

      +James Taylor thanks! I just don't understand some of those seams in the video. The edge seems to not loop around the whole way.

    • @MethodJTV
      @MethodJTV  9 років тому

      +PeeyanoKeys the seams that don't loop around are probably intersecting with another seam somewhere. When in doubt, just look at the seams on your clothes, lay the UV seams out the same way!

    Dude seriously you're the best. UV unwrapping has given me way too many headaches in the past lol. I have watched so many UV layout tutorials for schoolwork and yet I still struggled with it and found it hard to understand. I couldn't really develop a consistent, repetitive workflow with other methods that I have been taught to use. This made the whole process soooo much easier for me. I think you've earned my subscription! Thanks so much!

    This is bliss. I somewhat lose my mind when I see other tutorials and they do something with cubes or other primary geometry. Most of us are wondering where and what do with actual sculpted geometry. Where to place seams and tricks of the trade are huge bonuses which most people don't do either it is always the basic. If I could I would like this a thousand times over this tutorial has cut my work time literally in half. Thanks and keep up the great tutorials the immense help is greatly appreciated.

    For those who might be having issues with the move and sew function in 2016:
    Try to create a new UV set from the UV menu. Also, if the area you want to move and sew won't operate how you want it to, try merging verts or edges on your model and then using the move and sew one edge at a time.

    This video taught me more about UV mapping than the semester-long class I took at college dedicated to it. Thank you so much!

    I mainly focus on character conept art, but after watching a bunch of your videos I want to create my characters in 3D!
    I'll be bad, but practice makes perfect!!!

    • @MethodJTV
      @MethodJTV  7 років тому

      a good artist just has to learn the tools to make art in a new medium. If you can already concept characters, a lot of those fundamentals will transfer to 3D - you just have to learn the 3D tool set

    Amazing! If only I knew these techniques when we still used Maya at school!

      @MethodJTV  10 років тому

      Yoneou541 well, the bonus tools were only recently released, so don't feel too bad! But I am glad the techniques were helpful to you.

      @Yorea 10 років тому +1

      I see, I'll definitely try them out as soon as I use Maya again! We switched to Blender as it is free to use, but I really wished we could keep using maya.

      Yoneou541 it's free for all to use now: www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/all

    • @Yorea
      @Yorea 10 років тому +1

      Ben Kirkness I know it's free, but we can't use it for anything but school. A company would have to buy a pretty expensive licence for other purposes, and if the company is small, it'll have a hard time paying for it. That's why we use Blender now, because we don't need a licence for it..

    It funny how you say: Maaaanually :)
    Every single time they come up with the Auto UV mapping tool progress it comes out it still not as good as doing it manually not to mention it takes more time to correct the mistakes what the tool does. Like Auto Rigging and auto skinning. You just proved it again, thank you.

    • @MethodJTV
      @MethodJTV  8 років тому +1

      +Zoltan Hubert I agree, in that I never rely entirely on an automated solution, because of the reasons you give. But the new tools, like Unfold UV and Delta Must, get you much closer very quickly, so the entire process is shortened dramatically, which is why I like them!
