Yeah I jumped back when that igniter blew, holy crap that flash was intense!

It’s wasn’t the igniter that sparked. It was something from the board. The igniter cut before that.

Isn't it funny how a short can sometimes hide and stay covert and you've got to hunt and find where they're hidden. Then there's the other kind that jumps up and screams "HERE I AM!", this was an example of the screaming kind, and when it 'jumps up' you do too. LOL! Nice Job

Hey Walt, something to consider. The relay on the board that controls the igniter has closed several times into a dead short. The contacts in there are toast. I'm not so sure the board will last very long. The contacts could also weld and keep the igniter lit all the time and maybe that is why it burned out so badly.

Ladies and gentlemen, that is why I'm wearing gloves on every service call. I stopped counting how many times I've been zipped with high voltage. I'm sure it's close to 20 times by now. The most dangerous one was on a roof top 480V unit. That thing did shoot me 6 feet back. However, I'm still alive. Nowadays, I feel like the electricity is coming from China as well. It's too weak to kill...

Just so you guy's know, always double check a contactor. I was doing a job that required a 220 contactor, grabbed the box to said 220 coil. I install it, my friend flipped the dissconnect and BAM! I blew the fk back I just saw this arching flash. I am like wtf? I went over every wire 3 or 4 times still baffled. Then I saw the side of the contactor it was 24v. If you put a 120 ignitor in a American standard furnace and its 80v expect the same lol. However in this case it was 120v freak shit that happened.

Most ignitors are 120v. However Trane and American Standard have 80 volt ignitors. Always check the wiring diagram it should tell you.
